I’ve got all 3 (3!!) college kids home and I just made “the worlds best lasagna”.
I’m always slightly perplexed what the top layer should be. This time I did a layer of noodles topped with sliced mozzarella and shaved Parmesan. What do you do? (Is this a dumb question lol?)

I always put sauce on top and then layer with cheese.

That sounds great!
I usually top the final noodle layer with a thin layer of sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.

Top layer is noodles, then sauce, then just a little cheese - less than what on the inside layers as I don’t like the top of it all slimy and slippery with cheese. KWIM?

I end the last noodle sheet with a small smear of sauce and then cheese...
I don't like ricotta... so dont hurt me any of the Italians here but i use mozz, chedder, colby and parm.. all shredded.. ill interchange the cheeses throughout the layers...

I’ve never heard of cheddar in lasagna either.
Last year my mom made a big seafood lasagna with a white sauce for the holidays - unfortunately no one was a fan and has now turned into a running joke lol.

A tiny bit of sauce so the noodles don't stick to the bottom, the noodles, sauce cheese, noodles, sauce cheese. Mozzarella because that's what's avaliable in a small town. (Cheddar, marble and dried parmesan are available too but that doesn't sound good)

I always put sauce on top and then layer with cheese. DITTO! BF and I recently grabbed the Walmart Great Value lasagna noodles and used the recipe on the box. We were thrilled with how it turned out. And laughing that we are so easily pleased.
Melted cheese makes stuff taste great.

My top layer is a sheet of lasagne, smothered in bechamel sauce, and sprinkled with grated cheese (usually parmesan, mozzarella and cheddar).

My top layer is tomato sauce, then lots of provolone sprinkled with garlic powder, orgeano, basil, and parmesan. I like to broil it BRIEFLY at the end, so that the top cheeses get nice and brown. Also anyone using cottage cheese instead of ricotta is a monster I'm a monster! My Mom's recipe is to mix the cottage cheese with a beaten egg, then I add parmesan and some garlic powder. I've tried using ricotta, but don't like it. I only recently started putting thin slices of cream cheese along with the cottage cheese, and everyone RAVES over it. We've had the YUMMIEST lasagne with a bechamel sauce, so I may try that instead sometime.

I mean....how can you go wrong with pasta and cheese? I thought you were going to say your Mom's seafood lasagne was yummy---but, I guess not. It sounds kinda good to me.

Sometimes I mix it in with my bechamel sauce. If I'm making a vegetable lasagne, I will mix it with ricotta and use it instead of bechamel. We recently found a cheese sauce at Costco that I use instead of making bechamel if I'm feeling lazy, and I add cream cheese to the cheese sauce. You can never have too much cheese, that's my life's motto!

I start with a layer of meat sauce followed by a layer of pasta, then dollops of the ricotta spinach mixture, followed by grated mozzarella and parmesan. Keep repeating until I have three layers ending with the grated mozzarella and parmesan layer

To nerd out for a minute. The original lasgna came from the Bologna region of Italy and had sheet pasta, bolognese sauce and bechamel sauce - topped with parmegiano of course! Southern Italy introduced ricotta and mozarella - and as many southern Italians immigrated to the US, many/most US versions are more southern Italy style. Now I want some lasagna!

I’m now hungry for lasagna lol. Like others I top the last noodle with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. I use ricotta now but grew up with cottage cheese. I love ricotta cheese. I only use it on the inside layers. Never used cheddar but I could actually see that being good. Occasionally I like that on my spaghetti instead of parm. I have to be in the mood though.

Top layer is noodles, sauce and some cheese (a mixture of mozzarella and parm). Just enough to get bubbly and brown a bit.
