Sold almost half of what I took to the consignment sale and DH sold one of the big things we didnāt take to the second sale to one of his clients that has a little kid. Most of what sold was the clothes which is good because itās gone, but now I still have a bunch of toys to offload. I really hoped more would have sold because I was giving that money to my kid since it was her stuff. DH said heāll post the other big things on Marketplace which is good because I didnāt want to do it. Heās better at dealing with the flakers than I am, LOL.
I can drop off the rest of the cool weather clothes with the charity place. They wonāt take short sleeves or warm weather stuff until spring now. The smaller toys I think Iām going to drop off at another charity place that takes gently used toys and gives them for free to families in the area who need things for their kids for birthdays or Christmas, etc. Then the rest of it will be gone.
The next phase is emptying out DDās room to replace the carpet with hard surface flooring, then switching out her old bulky furniture with the next to new stuff we bought last spring which has been cluttering up the main level of the house all summer. Iāll be so glad to get that stuff out of the front room! It looks like a hoarder house in there right now with all the random furniture piled up in there and the mess from getting stuff ready for the sale that I havenāt had time to clean up. I have a box of books to drop off at the Little Free Library at DDās old school too.
My to do list for this week is to get rid of the books, drop off the two boxes of stuff at Salvation Army, check to see when I can drop off the toys and check to see when I can drop off the winter clothes that were left after the last sale, but someone on Buy Nothing said they arenāt taking donations at the moment.

Crazy4scraps, maybe you could drop off books in the little free libraryās people have in their front yards. Sometimes they are listed in web sites. When we donate at the Salvation Army they give us a coupon to use in the store. We then go in the store and give it to a shopper.

Had 5 eBay items get mailed yesterday and today. Need to list more.
I have a meeting at 11AM and we are going to be cooking so that will take most of my time today.

We have a whole bunch of them in our area so I know exactly which ones Iām going to hit up since I have books for a variety of age groups. I thought Iād do it today but then held off 1) because itās rainy and 2) because I think DD has a few more books on her shelf that she wants to offload. I usually drop stuff off at the drive through for SA so I usually donāt get a coupon, but thatās a really nice idea.

My mom insisted on packing all kinds of stuff for my dad's move into the new care facility. I gave up and let her. He moved into his permanent room yesterday, so today I emptied the 3 boxes. I was able to fit what he actually needed into a tote bag. The rest is in the trash or my donate box. My mom, as I've mentioned, can't get rid of stuff. She packed 3 clocks for him!

Couldn't sleep so I am up washing clothes and sorting craft stuff. Sorting seems like a never ending project. š
I need to work on my eBay storage area since I freaked out when I couldn't find a book to mail. I finally found it in a spot that didn't cross my mind until the last minute.

Iām calling it a win. Definitely!
Got some bad news there though. There's a couple that always set up across from us. She died and her husband is still struggling. Their friends weren't even with him today. For some reason the news has made me get on the verge of tears several times. No idea why. Don't even know their names. Trying to use the energy to clean and sort. I'm sorry. (((hugs)))

Yesterday ended up getting some unplanned organizing done with DH and his closets. He was changing out the battery backup on his desk and needed my help getting the cords organized and tamed. (Cannot recommend these Wrap-It self-gripping cable wraps enough!) That led to him removing a second monitor & Keyboard from his desktop, which in turn led to organizing/purging the shelf he stored those. It was that whole 'give a mouse a cookie' scenario! By the end of the afternoon I had reorganized an upper shelf in his office closet, purged a dozen baseball caps and a few odds & ends in the office, moved the rest of the caps to storage space in his wardrobe, then discovered his socks were a mess so grabbed some extra drawer organizers and solved that problem. He was thrilled! All of the storage bins/organizers were on hand so that helped the job go quickly. When I redo spaces I never get rid of the bins and organizers because eventually they will be reused. He plans to go through the socks soon and get rid of some. He really needs to go through his old t-shirts (all solids, nothing special) but admits he's having trouble letting go, so I may have to do it for him and let him make the final choices!

I got stalled a little last week because DD didnāt have time to go through her book shelf, and there was no school on Friday which meant no after school clubs which meant I didnāt have to pick her up which meant I didnāt go past the Little Free Library at the Early Childhood Center across from her school to offload the books I already have slated to purge. I really hate making extra trips if I can help it. DH said he wants to try to sell the leftover toys on Marketplace, so some of that is still in the garage. I really donāt want to bring any of it back in the house. At least now the clothing donation place should be back open for donations so the cold weather stuff can go back in the car to get dropped off.
I swear, some days it feels like one step forward, three steps back.
I really, really hate that DH didnāt make it a priority to get DDās flooring changed out over the summer. Now itās October which is one of the busiest months for us and thereās a ton of things going on and itās still not done.* Which means thereās still a pile of her new (to her) furniture in our front room (formal living room) and hallway (itās literally been there since about May) and I canāt get rid of the old crappy extra desk in the office and the pile of crap on top of it until her new desk is set up in her room. Iām so tired of looking at all this clutter I could scream, and none of it is my crap. š«
ETA: * And not likely to get done now until around Thanksgiving at the earliest, sigh. The next four weekends are booked up, then DHās hunting will consume the first two weeks of November. Then another week to get caught up once heās back home. Ugh. I hate this.

oh crazy4scraps - I'm SO sorry. It's incredibly hard when you want and need to make progress and it's stalled waiting on someone else to make it a priority. BTDT I got the attached garage straightened out on Friday - moved around the exercise equipment and made room for DH's behemoth of a drafting cabinet. We got the overflowing recycling taken out on Saturday so it's looking a lot better. Hoping we can do a donations run soon Cleaned out the drawers of my sewing desk - tossed some stuff, put some stuff in a better place, found a bra that needed repair AND fixed it. YAY! I still need to deal with the top of the desk including setting up a computer to run the embroidery software for the sewing machine - hopefully today.

found a bra that needed repair AND fixed it. That would be HUGE for me! All my stuff ends up in my sewing room in a pile that gets buried. I hate doing alterations so much What type of embroidery machine do you have? Mine can be hooked up directly to a computer/iPad or I can use the thumb drives. I always just use the thumb drives. I really, really hate that DH didnāt make it a priority to get DDās flooring changed out over the summer. Now itās October which is one of the busiest months for us and thereās a ton of things going on and itās still not done.* The cobblers children have no shoes! Isn't that the way it usually is? DH is an engineer and yet will not do any DIY projects. I joke that he does one DIY per decade - and if he times them right he can go 20 years without a single DIY. I hate spending the money on the smaller projects and have learned to do a lot on my own over the years. Flooring would be above my pay grade though! Would planning a party requiring the use of that formal living room light a fire under him?

Thanks - it just needed the hooks replaced which is easy to do by cannibalising an extender but yes, buried is exactly what happened. Embroidery machine is a Singer Quantum Futura CE-200 - it's 16 years old and while the sewing part works great and is my primary machine, the embroidery requires it to be hooked up to a computer running Windows XP or earlier and I haven't used the embroidery in ... a very long time (since I moved to Win7) but my BIL got me an old CPU with XP on it a couple of years ago so getting that all up and running is on my to-do list

Would planning a party requiring the use of that formal living room light a fire under him? Nope, it would not. In fact, we are having a surprise birthday party for our neighbor lady next weekendāat the lake cabin, because itās not a mess there (and because sheās there). Which is a big part of why things are such a mess HERE. With very few exceptions we havenāt been home on the weekends since April. š In some ways it was nice when it was only a seasonal cabin because there was more of an end date to going there than there is now that itās a year round home. At least now all of the major projects there are done. ETA: We installed all of the flooring in our lake cabin ourselves, even our kid helped (she was 10 at the time). One type of LVP, one type of manufactured laminate, and we reinstalled the manufactured laminate that we had pulled out of the basement prior to tearing the place down. The only flooring we didnāt do was the tile in the bathroom and the hardwood on the stair landing. With the right tools it really isnāt too hard, it just takes some time which is the one thing we havenāt had.

my dh is going on a 3 week vacation.. planned for months. now that he is about to leave on thursday, he thinks of something he wants to take and then yells bloody murder about not being able to find stuff, hating the house, etc etc. I say. hey.. I will look .. just not this minute. this afternoon it was his brand new water bottle (I had several places I was going to look) turned out it was in his bag that he never unpacked from our trip 1 month ago. then it was his linen pants. again. I said I would look.. and I will look tomorrow. it would have been nice to know this a week ago.
when he is gone I am tackling the mess in the bedroom and basement. I have made lots of good progress in the basement.. but more to go.. 40 yrs of accumulation.. and some of it is his stuff he just dumped 4 yrs ago. (we have a two level basement.. not finished.. and the car space takes up half the lower level.). I am ready for him to go.
he forgets where he puts stuff. why organizing is satisfying.. but somehow it gets to be all my fault. oh well. I am just whining. he is really a great person.

It sounds like you all have been busy!
I havenāt gotten much done since I posted last. Last weekend I went through the Halloween costumes and kept a few and gave the rest to my sister. So, from two bins of Halloween to one (including the stuff for carving pumpkins and the candy bowl).
We ordered a new bed for DS and new couch and chair and they are coming Saturday so we need to figure out how to get rid of the old stuff. My grandpa died last week so I was gone over the weekend and the week before was gone scrapbooking. So I feel like we really need to clean this week/weekend. I also want to take the winter clothes from the crawl space and at least get the bins ready to go through.

I have not commented in this thread for so long but I love following you all. I am always decluttering but a couple of weeks ago I got serious. Six trash bags and six grocery bags donated and 2 trash buckets set out for trash! I had 3 shelves of candles and knick knacks down to one. I have empty floors in the closets and empty space on my book shelves. I had a huge bin of scrapbooking stuff and got rid of most of it. Iāve discovered those scrapbooks are heavy and I donāt think any of my kids want them so Iām not making anymore.
I have about 3-4 of my adult daughters school stuff in scrapbooks and she doesnāt want them at her house. Nobody looks at them and they take up so much space . I just donāt know what to do with them. I have some Christmas ones and vacation ones that I will keep because we do drag those out every year and look through them.
My problem is my DH. I think I complained here before but he just wonāt let stuff go. 2 leather jackets he wore probably one time over 15 years ago along with 2 motorcycle helmets and he sold the motorcycle with no plans to get another one. I could go on and on. Itās so frustrating. NTSF- I have the same problem. DH has so much stuff he canāt find anything and he says itās because I moved it. Then he will find it somewhere else. Lol I donāt even help him look anymore because I know it probably never was where he says he put it!
Sorry so long . Great progress everyone!

I havenāt posted in a long time either but I still read about everyoneās progress.
I was on a roll until spring arrived when I had to head outside to do yard work where I promptly hurt myself. I had every test in the book plus my LAST colonoscopy! My husband had cataract surgery on both eyes and well, you get the picture!
My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimerās last October so I have also been working on getting our affairs in order, house repairs done in case we have to move to senior living, etc.
Next up is to repair our failing French drain, sump pump and cracks in the basement. š©$$$. As we move everything away from the walls I thought it would be a great idea to pitch and donate at the same time. We have three weeks and well it turns out that was a dumb idea as we arenāt spring chickens!
Now the plan is to just move the stuff and when they are all finished we will go though it little by little as we put it back. One daughter said she will do the steps and drop stuff off at the donation place. Sheās a minimalist so she will be ruthless! My daughters know weāre doing this so that they donāt have to and I told them they will thank me some day! š
Itās interesting that this has gotten my husband to start parting with his āyou just might need this somedayā ways but with Alzheimerās he has a really difficult time making a decision. Thus the change in plans. All that counts is that we chip away at stuff little by little. Anything is progress and I also think itās good for his mind. Win, win!

callmenutz I am so sorry about your DH's diagnosis. Hugs, dear Pea. Your DDs will definitely appreciate anything you can purge now. My parents refused to purge anything and it was torture to get my mom to let things go when the time came to move them to a care facility. I'm on a mission to purge more in my own home.

Hung up two hooks I already owned in the garage and now I have somewhere to store my seasonal wreaths when they are not in use. Put painting items away until Iām actually ready to paint again. Hung up the spare vacuum and itās storage caddy in the garage so we can use it in the car and so I stop tripping over it. All that procrastination and it took me about five minutes of actual work š

I'm so sorry to hear about your health difficulties and your husband's diagnosis. I know how hard it is to make progress in decluttering when working with someone with that diagnosis. I've found that once they are OK with getting rid of something, I need to get it out of the house ASAP. Otherwise, if they come across it again (even in the marked donation bin), they forget they wanted to get rid of something and they decide to keep it until you can convince them it's OK to let it go. The cycle can repeat multiple times, and it is exhausting.

Getting ready for my DD23 to visit so have been doing some decluttering as I clean.
-a random 1/3 cup measuring cup -2 binders -a 2-gallon bag of scrapbook stuff -loads of bits and bobs - sticker sheets that were mostly empty, alphas no vowels left, scraps of paper not big enough to be worth hanging on to... -a CPU and an external harddrive (they'll go to e-recycling) -a handful of books
