My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last October I'm sorry. That's such a tough road to walk.
All that procrastination and it took me about five minutes of actual work I find that to be too true so often. To get myself to do things that I'm procrastinating, I tell myself that I'm doing future me a favor.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
he forgets where he puts stuff. why organizing is satisfying.. but somehow it gets to be all my fault. My ex was like this. Has ADD and would just drop things as he was walking through the house. Then would ask me where *I* put his "_____" (insert absolutely anything he's looking for. Coffee mug, ID, keys, boots, jacket, random item from twenty years ago). It was so infuriating to always be blamed and held accountable for another adult's belongings.
she sees it and feels bad she isn’t that person That statement really hits deeply. A very bald truth in it.
I actually got rid of many things that weren't a representation of me, even if part of my mind really, really wanted them to be me. It's like letting go of a hope, or aspiration.
I think she *wants to be* the person that has people over for a nice dinner, but that’s kind of hard when you can’t even see the top of the dining room table (or the floor surrounding it, for that matter). Maybe she can see that she is good enough to make those special dishes her everyday dishes. She deserves to eat off of beautiful dishes.
Maybe I'm really bad, but I use the coffee saucers from my inherited "good" dishes under my little potted plants to catch the water. At least they're being used, right?
Mine too.
I have a stack of stuff to still file, but right now it's so overwhelming.

Been selling small stuff at outdoor market. At least it's gone and my cut is big enough to pay for extra pool therapy sessions. (My Dad gets the bigger cut since he does most of the heavy work and I just help for few hours a day because of health).
Need to take another load to GW. No idea what to do with huge mirrors we got from friend. They are huge.

It really, really is. I gave up a lot of those things; but there are a few things I hold on to because I have hope that even if I can’t do them frequently now, and haven’t been able to for a while, that I have hope that I will be able to in the future. It’s due to my physical and mental health issues and I’m working hard to make progress so I have to have hope! Do you get enjoyment out of the saucers where they are? If so, not a thing wrong with using them that way! For my paperwork I try to just make myself start and set a timer for 5 minutes. I give myself permission to stop if it’s just too overwhelming, but I almost always make it through the 5 minutes. 5 minutes here and there can make a huge difference! And even if not, I feel much better knowing I’m making at least progress and it’s not just a project/task sitting stagnant.

Except getting out of the pool, the water seems to want to hold me in I felt so heavy when I climbed up the steps. What about posting it on a neighborhood page or a buy nothing group? You can state that they’re available first come first serve and that you’ll take down the listing when they’re gone.

I do like the neighborhood page idea. My Dad isn't crazy about people he doesn't know coming to the house so we may put it on a county wide page and meet somewhere in public. Think the local PD and sheriff office have designated online sale parking spaces in front of their offices. There's several Walmarts/Krogers too in the county too. I have started another GW box of stuff in the house. I need to go through my eBay listings again and donate things that aren't getting any views. Will keep Christmas ornaments on there though. I can't compete with some of the book sellers though.

I got all the important updated medical & school papers put into the binder. I feel better without them sitting, waiting for me.

They just limit them by area to keep the groups local so you don’t have people from outside the area snapping up everything to resell.

well.. did not get as much done as I wished when dh was gone.. but I did organize most the bookcase in the kitchen.. lots of recycling out the door. and I went to scrap weekend and almost totally finished my son's baby book (he is 36) and will drop it with him when I visit in dec. now dh wants a place to edit videos, so I am looking at getting rid of furniture from our extra bedroom to make a space. I told him it wouldn't be a fast job, but I am fine getting rid of twin beds, and an old dresser.. and seeing if I can squeeze in a queen bed for guests.

but I am fine getting rid of twin beds, and an old dresser.. and seeing if I can squeeze in a queen bed for guests. Have you considered a trundle bed instead of a queen? You would still have bed space when needed, but more floor space when there are no guests. They have really improved those in recent years. It is the solution we have settled on for when we redo DD's old room in the Spring. Our plan is to get a daybed/trundle with XL twin mattresses. The only time we ever need extra bed space is when one of us is sick or DD has lost power at her apartment - so very rarely. The floor space gained is much more valuable to us than a queen bed.

well.. I usually want to host couples.. like my son and his wife or my daughter and her wife. a trundle would be a big haul up to that room.. tight tight stairs..up two stories.
I will have to measure out and see.

I’m almost afraid to post anything and jinx it, but we actually stayed home last weekend and got the carpet torn out of DD’s room, and after much cursing and sweating we got the LVP installed. It was definitely NOT as easy to put in as the kind we installed at our lake place. So far, the bed is back in there but nothing else yet. We sold the old 4 poster bed that was in there and got rid of that. DH claimed the old nightstand because he doesn’t have one.
We still need to empty out the armoire that was in DD’s room which is currently in the hallway and move her other furniture back in, but I’ve been feeling kind of sick with a sinus thing the last few days so I’m dragging. I’m glad we have a guest room where DD can sleep until we get her room put back together.

a murphy bed wouldn't work I don't think due to the windows and the closet and other stuff location.. it does not have a big free wall.

I took a trunk load of stuff to Salvation Army today mostly Halloween stuff. I thought about doing the local buy nothing but I didn’t want to babysit the computer and wanted it gone asap. I also got rid of a few other things we should have gotten rid of a long time ago including a heavy coat that I hated and I just replaced it with one from Costco. I’m happy to have it gone. We are making progress but still have so much stuff to go through.

I will have to measure out and see. IKEA makes the HEMNES daybed which could be taken upstairs and assembled in the room. The two mattresses stack when in daybed setup. Pull out the bottom base, put the mattresses side by side for a larger bed. There are even 3 drawers below for storage.

Still going through stuff from DD’s room. She pulled out a ton of books she no longer wants so those can now be purged along with the ones I originally had in the box.
While most of them can just be distributed among several of the Little Free Libraries around here, some of them I’m going to try to sell, like the pristine condition full set of hardcover Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, someone might want those for their kid for Christmas. We also have a full boxed set of Boxcar Children books that were something like $75 new, and are like new still, that I’m not going to just donate without trying to get something back out of them first.
She also pulled a whole bunch of clothes out of her dresser that no longer fit, or that she just doesn’t like (more likely), but all of it is spring/summer so that can’t be donated right now. At least there’s room in the hall closet for it now that I’ve gotten rid of so much other stuff. Baby steps, LOL.

We have a patio off of the kitchen that goes to the backyard. Years ago we took the front gate off of the patio and I have been asking DH to put it back on since the snow melted due to now having a dog. We have had various baby gates and other things blocking it to deter her from going out the front and it looked horrible (and was stressful because she could have easily jumped over). Today I was at my wits end because she keeps trying to dig under the fence and go in the front of the patio. DH FINALLY put the gate back on. Yay! Now we just need to get some dig defense for the spots she keeps digging. Ugh. I also threw the baby gates and the bed frame away rather than trying to store them for some other purpose.

I need to spend some time down in my office/studio again, it’s become such a mess again over the summer and there’s nowhere to work on anything. I think I’m going to try to hit it hard when DH is gone for hunting in a few weeks. It’s always easier to focus on things like that when I’m not being pulled in a hundred other different directions.

I took an hour and a half altogether today to vacuum and wash floors in the basement. I also went through a bunch of stuff. I keep old cardboard boxes in case you need to return something, wrap a gift etc. are-cycling day is tomorrow so out they go. Found a box of canning lids. Looked at items carefully. Some went in the garbage and some will be listed in Facebook Marketplace. Thank you for keeping this thread going. It comes across my screen daily and seeing it encourages me to declutter

I'm working on cleaning up my storage room. It is a disaster since I dumped everything I took (temporarily) from my parent's house. I've scanned a bunch of photos and printed duplicates for my siblings. I've given them the originals, too. I have lots more to do there!
I started another box for Goodwill. I added a tabletop air hockey game that my grandson said he'll never use, a lamp, a windchime that was a sweet gift after DH passed (I hate windchimes, lol), and a cute, but unwanted Halloween pillow. I'll go back down there when I get done hanging out here!

It’s Thursday and that reminds me that today is one of the days I can drop off stuff for the clothing charity. I still have a box of winter clothes left over from the consignment sale that I want gone. Now that DD’d new bed frame is out of the formal living room and in her bedroom, that box of clothes is one more thing that can go.
When I get done on here, I’m going to load that box into my trunk along with some of the younger kid books. I can drop the clothes today and the books tomorrow when I have to pick up DD from school. There’s a Halloween event this weekend next to the early childhood center nearby and they’re expecting hundreds of kids, so I’m sure the Little Free Library there will get hit up hard too. I can stock it up on Friday and again next Tuesday morning when I have to bring DD to school if it’s empty after the weekend.

We went through more stuff in the basement today. Shredded some receipts, recycled cardboard, listed items for sale (I look at it carefully and ask myself if it gives me joy),giving some items away (one of them is an old blanket someone will cut up and incorporate into cat beds for her rescue cats). Also had dh move a piece of furniture downstairs. Where is this energy coming from, lol.

Callmenutz, so sorry about your husband!
I seem to come and go on this thread. I have a question for you all. What do you do with your old scrapbooks? Are you keeping them? I'm not willing to throw out the photos. But I look at the shelves filled with scrapbooks that never get opened anymore and do wonder if I should downsize that.

Use cayenne pepper. We used to get the big jars from Sam's and sprinkle it liberally in the areas our lab liked to dig out from. The ground will be red for a bit, but it should help deter the digging. It made our lab's nose run, so she stopped digging.

I have so much to do this weekend and one of my big items to do was to get my winter clothes out of the crawl space and switch them with the warmer weather clothes. I had some phone meetings this morning so decided I could work on the clothes while on the calls. I got everything organized and put away, and even put two bins of clothes to get rid of in my car and the rest back in the crawl space. But wouldn’t you know I found another bin! Going through that now and then will be done with that. I dusted the bedroom as well and cleaned the bathroom.

I got the clothes dropped off but not the books. DD moved the box and I didn’t know where it went so I couldn’t put it in my car. But I did go through the other box and decided I would check with DD’s former 5th grade teacher to see if the elementary school library might want a big box of those books. They’re all like brand new, most maybe read once and the spines aren’t even cracked. I was going to put them in the Little Free Library there, but then thought if they were in the school library it would benefit more kids. I still will have a big box of books to put in the two little free libraries.

dropped off six bathtowels at the humane society...and came home with two cats (for DD23 and DS31 - we'll deliver at Thanksgiving -DD23 picked them out), lol. We might end up with a third tomorrow - dh really liked this older kitty...I'm not sure we're winning at this decluttering thing, lol
