I sent 6 boxes of books home with my older kids today and also two pairs of jeans went with DD23
We took all the recycling and cardboard to the drop-off yesterday - that was long overdue.
I'm labelling more photos and deleting duplicates (digital/scanned photos) at the moment.

I thought everyone was busy with Thanksgiving because I haven’t seen an update since early November. Does this happen to anyone else? Do I have to do something special to keep getting updates?
It seems a lot of you are making great progress, congratulations!

I have it bookmarked but I’m not getting updates. Maybe I should just check it every time I’m on?

The new puppy is destroying the dog toys. He is this wonderful little monster who amazes and frightens me.
8 weeks old and intelligent. My son swears the puppy is going to figure out how to open the fridge when he gets bigger.
Black lab mix (Border collie).

Is anyone else working on any home or decluttering projects this weekend? Me.
Feels like I'm always chipping away at something.
This week I had my two youngest toss all of their socks and underthings, and replaced them. They each get a different brand, for easier matching of socks out of the dryer.
Before Thanksgiving, I organized my dry pantry goods & cans/jars, putting like with like. Made a note of things that I won't need to rebuy next shopping trip.
This morning I cleaned up the fridge after the Thanksgiving leftovers have mostly been picked over. Put things in tidy little gladware containers.
I also did a bit of fall yard clean up, which I do a bit of every Sunday. Today I trimmed the yellowed/wilted hostas.
check it every time I’m on That's what I do.

I participated in the past years threads and I think the beginning of this year’s but I really need to jump back in. It’s been a rough year and I keep saying to myself “If I could just get organized” This past month I’ve been slowly tackling my biggest nemesis which is paper. The piles of health insurance stuff, kids schoolwork, and statements multiply faster than bunny rabbits. The next few days I hope to go through and organize all my holiday bins for work (preschool teacher) and get rid of the stuff I never use.

I took my clothes to clothes mentor. It was a little frustrating. I will never understand their rationale for what they will buy and what they won’t. Or the amount that they will buy it for. I had two bins of nice clothes that were all in excellent condition. They wanted to buy four things…a brand new with tags Michael Kors coat and another coat, and two tank tops. Guess how much they offered? $16. I said I would just try to sell the costs myself (or give them away to someone who needs them) and took the $5 for the two tank tops. I’m going to let my mom look through the clothes when she is here this week (although it’s a little embarrassing since she is very frugal and I feel like she will think I’m so wasteful) and then she can take what’s left to the thrift store she volunteers at or I’ll take to goodwill. The good news is I have sold some of the books and might have a buyer for my nail polish lot. Oh, I feel you on that one! When DD was very little, I got involved with the pop up consignment sales that would be in our area twice a year. It worked out very well because I could buy the stuff I needed gently used for huge discounts on retail, take good care of them and resell for basically what I paid. Wash, rinse, repeat. Well after one of the sales cycles I still had a number of really nice things that I didn’t want to store until the next sales so I took the lot to Once Upon a Child. 😳🥴 Now THAT was eye opening! They really picked through what I brought and basically offered me pennies on the dollar even compared to used prices. Literally less than what I’d get selling at a garage sale in a bad neighborhood, LOL. It wasn’t until after I left and really looked at the receipt that I realized they gave me something like $5 for a brand new still in the package baby sling that cost $60 new, and that they would likely resell for $30. Yeah, NO. That was the first and last time I would ever go that route. So frustrating. And even shopping those stores is an experience. I took my DD13 into a consignment store (maybe Turnstyle?) late last summer to look for some school clothes because we didn’t really know what size she was (she would only wear leggings or joggers but wanted something nicer now) and she didn’t know what brands of clothing she liked, so I figured this would be a great way to see a lot of different styles and brands in one place. She did find some stuff she liked but OMG. The whole place just reeked of scented laundry detergent and fabric softener. 🤮 She gets eczema from scented stuff so I immediately washed everything we bought with unscented detergent and white vinegar. And then washed it all again. And her favorite pieces from there have been washed multiple times since, and even now months later they STILL smell like fabric softener and scented detergent. 🤢 Neither one of us is a fan of that, so we probably won’t be going back.

I am making good progress re-organizing our walk-up attic. Our family room is above the attached garage so on the 2nd floor near the kids bedrooms. I put our big Christmas tree up in the family room so I keep that tree, decorations and upstairs decor items stored in the attic along with our 2 air mattresses and the extra bedding for them. In addition to decluttering, I love coming up with more efficient ways to store things.

Stuff broke in the shed when I went to get our Christmas stuff. Knew it was going to happen. It looks worse than I realized. Don't feel safe in there with my history of falls.
My Dad said he was going to buy a new shed and now is acting like he has no idea what I am talking about when I mention it.
Need to get some stuff marked for the Christmas push at flea market. May do that Thursday so I could just load it in van and take it to work night.
Contact at residental school will hopefully take stuff by the first week of December. I think she is feeling better, or at least making herself get out based on Facebook posts recently.

Be careful cecilia ! I hope she’s able to get those items from you so that’s off your mind. We are starting our Christmas decorating tonight. Decided it was going to be a smaller year so we’re only putting up 2 of our 5 trees and not doing the village. DH is in the mood to get stuff done around the house (installing things, fixing some items) so I am not getting in the way of that by doing all the decorations this year! As we decorate we’ll make sure these are items we still love and get a lot of enjoyment from. We’ll also finish going through our winter clothes. Hopefully now that DH is in his ‘getter done’ mode he’ll want to part with more. As I was getting something out of the bathroom cabinet I saw a couple of items I no longer use so I’ll tackle that bathroom this week as well. natscraps Welcome back! callmenutz I just pop in here when I see it’s come back to the top, and it’s a pretty active thread so that’s most times I hop on. amom23 I don’t know if I like decluttering or organizing more. I love that feeling when I figure out just the right place, or way to organize something that makes our everyday lives easier!

(((Hugs)) cecelia -be careful Good to see some new (returning) posters on the thread! I went through a digital folder of scanned memorabilia from mum's house - all stuff related to me - and labelled everything with date/place etc...and moved to the correct digital folders and I was able to delete that folder. AND it means I'll be able to find those scans in the future.

I went through some puffy jackets and winter wear yesterday. I pulled two puffy jackets, one fleece lined vest, one gray zip up jacket (a T by Talbots item), and one nicer vest out to donate. I was going to take all but the nicer vest to church today to donate to a street ministry they are working with, but I wasn't feeling well, so I didn't go. Today was the last day they were collecting for the ministry, so I'll find another place to donate them. I planned to donate the nicer vest to a local group that helps women get back into the workforce, so I may just take everything to them.
Of the things I tried on yesterday, I only kept 1 puffy jacket - it fit the best, as the others are now too big!
I'm at that point where I can get rid of at least two sizes worth of clothes because they are too big. I'm a little afraid to get rid of everything in case I regain the weight (I lost a bunch of weight in 2018/2019, regained it in 2020/2021, stayed the course in 2022, and have lost a lot of it this year, thanks to Wegovy). I'm at my lowest weight now since 2019, but I still have 20+ to get to my all time lowest weight, and 65ish is to get to a "healthy" weight.
Some things are easy to get rid of, as they are easy to replace (hello, puffy jackets), but others are more costly/difficult to find. For example, I used to wear suits quite a bit for former jobs, and it was hard to find a nice suit that fit well. In my current job, I may need to wear a suit two or three times a year, but since they are on back to back days, they need to be different suits. I don't want to hang on to a ton of suits, but I also don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to buy new ones if I should need a bigger size the next time I have to wear one. Help!!

I feel like men wear the same suit maybe with a different shirt/tie and no one thinks twice about that? Also even if you gain some of the weight back - are those suits still going to work for you? style wise and size wise? I find that when I gain or lose weight, my shape seems to change also so losing/gaining doesn't mean the old clothes always fit again - at least not well. Can you hold onto one suit in a larger size or one in each of the larger sizes so if you need it, you'll have it but you're not holding onto a bunch of stuff you hopefully will never need again

mich5481 First, congratulations on your weight loss! I agree with linda about all of it. Keep your favorite suit and then mix and match with different tops, shoes, and accessories. Normally I’d recommend getting rid of all of it, but it seems as if you’ve always struggled with weight (same as me) so I can see why you’d want to keep an expensive item like a nice suit if you can’t easily afford to replace it.

Sorry to have gone MIA the past couple of weeks. Things have been crazy around here and all I can do is manage to read the thread when I get notifications. I've got several irons in the fire right now so no major decluttering/organizing has been happening. It's mainly a drawer or shelf here or there when I see something that needs attention and can be done quickly. It's been great to see so much activity on the thread. Something about the holidays and the end of the year looming that seems to motivate everyone to declutter and organize! Welcome back natscraps ! Hope to see you around more often. cakediva - I did read your post about bags/boxes being a girl thing and noticed that dewryce mentioned this thread. Thought I'd try to get you to join us here! On Page 1 of this thread I have quite a few links to products and ideas for organizing and products. Check that out! Also, feel free to post your questions and ask for ideas here as someone most likely has a suggestion or idea to help you out! Would love to have you join us! This past week I have been through nearly every single drawer, shelf, closet, etc in this house (not exaggerating ) - and sometimes multiple times. Last month I happened on a vintage scarf from the 1970s that I bought. The design is English jumping related which was one of DD's sports growing up. It also matches a new jacket I just had made. My plan was to wear it a few times, then have it framed for DD (she is not a scarf wearer). I took it out of the scarf drawer to photograph it on Oct. 9 and put it away - or so I thought. My jacket came in last week and I went to get the scarf and it is nowhere to be found. I have been just sick that it is apparently gone as it won't be easily replaced, and I paid a small fortune for it. The only positive is that my entire wardrobe wall and drawers have been emptied and reorganized, as has the guest room closet where I store luggage and handbags. Once Dec. 5 has come and gone things will really quiet down for me so I'll be able to jump in here more often. Once Christmas is over we will be focusing on a major declutter/purge of the guest room as we are scheduled to start updating that room. Right now it has become a dumping ground and holding spot and we can barely walk through there. So I'll definitely be posting more then!

Oh no **GypsyGirl**, how disappointing! I’m glad you were able to get through so much but hate why you had to do it. I hope it shows up somewhere completely unexpected.

Thanks, Linda and dewryce. I think I will downsize to one suit per size. I don't need them very often in my current job, but where I live, it is practically impossible to find nice suits in larger sizes in person.

well.. since I lost a significant amount of weight.. I have been going through clothes and such. (I need to do more work on it!!!) but I grabbed a sweater of my dad's that I just couldn't get rid of.. though it was way too small. it now fits.. so I can add it to my wearable clothes!! off the junk pile and into the closet. it was made by a lady in the 1940's.. because my dad as a teen did some big favor for her.. it has a zipper in front, and a beautiful royal blue. my dad said it was always the warmest sweater he owned. and wore it for 80 something years. the collar and sleeves were edged with thin fleece a few years back to protect it from more wear.
so now I am going to wear it!!!

We finished switching over our clothes for the season and were able to empty a tote’s worth of items. It was pretty disappointing though, because I’ve lost 75 pounds since I purchased some of them, and barely went down a size. Plus sizes are so wonky. But I’m hopeful that next summer I’ll be able to donate everything in my summer clothes tote that I just packed away!

I have two big bins of stuff for Salvation Army but didn’t want to take it there until DH has had a chance to add anything he wants to get rid of to the pile. Our hoarding tendencies are pretty equal but I think I let go of things a little easier than he does.
I also saw a post on Buy Nothing where some lady was looking for some scrapbooking stuff. Lady, have I got a deal for you, LOL. She didn’t really specify what she was looking for other than a corner punch and a trimmer. I’m sure I have a corner rounder but I don’t think I have any extra trimmers, at least not one that a person could get refill blades for anymore. I’ll have to double check that. I need to look through my stuff and let her know what I’ve got that she can have.

Was able to get rid of the happy meal toys and school supplies that I had been saving. Extension/volunteer group does bags yearly for kids in need so those items worked great. Took them to club meeting and everyone took some. Did 15 bags between everyone and what we all brought.

We are finishing up a redecoration project for the front of the house. Yesterday all the artwork was hung that has been sitting in piles in the guest room since Spring. I also pulled out a couple of pieces that I wasn't sure about and they will work in the guest bathroom. Designer took them with her to have reframed so immediate action was taken. Guest room is still a disaster, but anything that comes out and is dealt with immediately is progress in my book!
