She could be a Pea, because she called to say she keeps walking in there to admire it! Awesome! ;-) What a nice thing to do for your mom! (Even though she had to "let" you do it! LOLOL) ;-) When she admires it, she is also thinking of you helping her! <3

I got my room pretty clean Sunday. Been sick and I thought someone was going to be coming to clean my oxygen concentrator but so far, no one. Going to try to continue to work on it.

Iām so excited. I finished the kitchen. I do have the floors to do but the kitchen light went out yesterday and itās dark before I get off work still. I probably purged 70-75% of my stuff and yet I still struggle for space in the small foot print. I think a lot has to do with the very skinny but deep pantry cabinet. I have been able to keep on top of my kitchen this past week because of the decrease in items. Itās not overwhelming. I did make a run to goodwill last weekend so most of the donate is out of the house too.
Next project is my bedroom. Technically it doesnāt start till February but I may start early. I am doing a massive clothing purge. I think my goal is 15 outfits max. Thatās two weeks plus one. I havenāt figured out the ancillary items yet. Also my bedding and towels are stored in the bedroom so I need to figure out my max on those. Itās going to be entertaining. I have to decide my camera gears date as well.

My mom let me clean out her tiny laundry room. I can't believe how much junk she had stashed in there. You could not access the 30" of cabinets or the countertop at all due to stuff piled on the floor in front of the them. I filled the entire back end of my Ford Edge with trash and recycling. She had old junky decor that she didn't display in years, dozens of empty pill bottles, a whole boot size shoe box of flashlights "needing repair", a decades worth of Weight Watcher booklets from at least 15 years ago, instructions for appliances and phones she no longer owns... She could be a Pea, because she called to say she keeps walking in there to admire it! I'm so happy for you both. My mom freaks out if we try to help her clean out her junk (cottage cheese containers, styrofoam boxes, etc. all washed and stacked up).

We finally got our garage re-organized. I say "re-organized" because I did a whole organization thing about a year and a half ago. DH and I bought each other one of those shiny red workbench/tool chest things for Christmas, so now all of our tools are beautifully organized. The only thing left I have to do there is label the drawers.
I also did a big cleanout of our closet. DH is an avid fly fisherman, so I got him a few bins to store his fishing shirts, buffs, pants and hats and to store whatever else he needs to wear for it. The closet is still not ideal, but it is a LOT better on his side.
DS just signed a lease on his first apartment. Of course, I'll be a little sad but also excited for him. He'll be just down the road in the next neighborhood over from me. I'm really looking forward to getting his new place organized as well. Also, I now finally have a spare room! DH wants to use that as his fly-tying room, plus a place to work on the days we both WFH.

I placed all of my squatting bending down to get a direct view of the front and placed them where I thought they looked best. And I did all of them to match. When I stood up I couldnāt read a lot of the lower drawers because the handle/pull blocked them from sight. Also, there are premade magnetic labels available. I loved the idea, but I store some non-tool things in the drawers (3M command hooks, various cord wrap-around, etc) so all of my labels wouldnāt have matched. But it might work for you guys.

Two more bags of items out of the house, new kitchen almost fully installed and ready for me to move things back into AFTER I go through them all. Peas, I may just be able to fit all my kitchen and serving items in the actual kitchen š® But donāt worry, I have many many craft items that need a home that will fit in my storage in the other rooms that are now emptied out šš
Iām trying to figure out how to store junk drawer items now I have a deeper drawer so any suggestions would be appreciated. I lost a shallow drawer, but gained width in the three drawers I do haveā¦ a lot to get used to!
And can I just say, the genius move I made to redesign the kitchen so that I can use and reach all the cupboards was sooo worth it - I had two corner cupboards in the past that I kept empty as I had no way of reaching anything in them and now I can use them!!! Yay!!!! clutter free bench tops for the win!

I was scolded for not returning her containers after she sent home leftovers. They were all repurposed containers, including a salsa jar, LOL. Some of what I got rid of included empty pill bottles and containers without lids. I left her an assortment of the pill bottles, but didn't think she needed 30 of them.

the kitchen is on my task list at the moment. There's always a trade-off between not being the only person to put stuff away and having stuff be put away correctly.
Yesterday I tackled the pyrex and other food storage cabinet. Matched lids, organised by size - it looks so nice.
I am crowd sourcing ideas for a couple of areas though.
I have an Oster with ALL the accessories - ice cream maker, pasta maker, sausage maker, juicer...as well as food processor, blender, mixer. It's currently stored between two cabinets - both up high - and consequently I think I've used the blender twice in the two years we've lived here and haven't touched any of the rest. I'm torn between it's should live in non-prime space because it's rarely used and it'll get more use if I see it/can easily reach it. Thoughts?
I also have a lower cabinet with baking pans...I almost certainly need to own a few less but they are always in a jumbled mess. Wondering if putting in some sort of dividers to store them on their sides would help?
And last but certainly not least. I have two almost inaccessible cabinets in corners - they have small (halfsize) doors and stretch a full cabinet depth to the side of the opening...one is working for me, mostly because I have my cookie cutters on one shelf in an old Rubbermaid media box (think CD size but LONG) that slides in and to the side and a basket with air fryer accessories (that I've never actually used) at the front of the other shelf. The other one doesn't work well at all - I have a stack of dish drying mats that get tossed in and there'an air popper on it's side and I hestitate to say I'll be able to reach all of the parts (it's supposed to be upright but I'm not the popcorn maker here....see my first paragraph)

linda Buy some of these dividers link and store your baking sheets and cake pans on their sides. It's a game changer. You won't have to unstack things to get the pan you want. I have my baking sheets up high, but I just need to be able reach a few inches of the pan to grab it.

If it really hasn't been used in two years, I'd get rid of it completely. I've come to terms over the years that I'm not the "make your own pasta every Friday night" kind of person, and have not ever missed the pasta maker I parted with. I figure I have enough other options, including buying fresh pasta when occasionally nothing else will do. And I quite enjoy the 'breathing room' in my upper cabinets--it makes my brain feel settled in a way that never would have happened if that stupid pasta maker was there every time I opened the doors!

I know...I know...but it's not replaceable if I change my mind...and I AM a make from scratch sort of person...I've even made pierogies from scratch. I really feel like I would use this more if it were easier to do so so I would like to try moving it before I ditch it. Maybe I just need to put it on the counter and see if I actually use it and then if so, find a better home for it. I really want to be the sort of person with cleared off counters but I think I might be the sort that needs stuff in sight to use (at least in the kitchen)

I need to come back to this thread more often for motivation!
My big success this week has been to finally go through a few boxes that we brought from my mom's assisted living. I kept out a few things to keep and I've put most of the rest up on Buy Nothing. Have I mentioned how much I love Buy Nothing? lol
I also put all the Christmas stuff away, including the tree. The outside lights are still up until the end of the month because they're so cheerful in the evening when people are coming home from work in the dark.
I'm still finishing up with ds's room where all the Xmas stuff was, and my mom's boxes. He'll be here for a visit at the end of February so that's my deadline. lol. He doesn't care what's in there as long as he can find a space in the bed, but I care! lol.
My next goal is to haul all the Xmas boxes down to the spot in the basement that I've cleared out for them. We usually keep them up in the attic but since we don't have pull-down stairs dh has to get up there on a step ladder. I don't like him doing that anymore as we get older, so I'm transitioning us away from doing that.

DH and I just bought a 2nd freezer to put in the garage. We currently have a large upright freezer in our laundry room which is great, but it usually stays pretty full and I'd like to have more space for bulk buying and freezer cooking, etc. WE found the perfect sized chest freezer at a decent price at Menards. My plan is to move most of the meat into the chest freezer and use the inside upright for everything else. I'm pretty happy and now have another organizing project to work on LOL!

Did manage to clean out my closet of clothes I don't need. My Dad took off more recycling today when he went to town. (We prefer the recycling center in town vs between two towns. The one between has an asshole who works there so we don't go to that one.) Going to try to purge stuff from outside and use up all the empty soda cases this week. Haven't been going to thrift stores, which is good. I do need to stock up on stained linens for Baby. I threw away two moldy sheets he had been sleeping on.

Have I mentioned how much I love Buy Nothing? I love mine too! It's made it so much easier to get rid of stuff that is not worth the hassle of listing on marketplace, or not something my local op shop will take, and people are usually so excited they want to collect things the same day.

I have been working on the basement and kitchen. We have 2 large garbage cans outside and I filled up one and part of another! I got rid of a lot of the extra food we had for when the kids were home for winter break. Lot of candy that no one ate and lots of other stuff too. I also got rid of a lot of serving dishes etc. that we never use. We only have my inlaws over for a holiday, so at most, there are 7 of us. No need to hang on to extra stuff, I would rather buy those aluminum pans for the holidays instead of keeping pans that take up a lot of room. We have very little kitchen storage (my daughter's apt. has more cabinets and drawers) so we try to keep only as many plates as there are members of the family.

I've pulled the main part (base) down and put it on the bench and have pulled out the instruction books to remind myself of how it all works. I used it more when it first came home but then we didn't have a stove/oven for several years and then my mum died and we moved and I just didn't do much cooking beyond the basics the past 5 or 6 years. I'm finally back to it - cooking from scratch, making broth, baking bread etc... so I'm going to give myself six months to re-acquaint myself with it and then re-evaluate. But yes - a set trial period is a good idea. I'm thinking of challenging myself to use a different aspect each week to get back in the habit of thinking about it - I'll probably pull the various accessories out one week at a time and give them a whirl. Might start with ice cream, lol

Whew got my new garage freezer filled/organized and the indoor upright reorganized. I've come to the realization that my upright freezer is a "working" freezer and will probably always be full. I am ok with that. I like to buy in bulk and freezer cook when I can. Anyways I am so happy to have the extra feezer for all the meat (We buy a 1/2 cow at a time).

I had big plans for this weekend. I have watched so many tik Tok organization videosā¦especially under the sink. Earlier this week I ordered some drawer bins and have been waiting for today when they were to be delivered. I measured the height to make sure it would work with the garbage disposal but didnāt pay any attention to the width. I didnāt realize they were only 6ā wide. Dh was in a town with a Walmart so I had him stop by and pick up some home edit ones. Unfortunately I will not be able to stack them 2 high.
On the upside I have plenty of containers for around the house now. Just bummed that my grand vision for under the sink isnāt working out for me. I am expecting 2 more bins tomorrow so I am hoping to be able to make something work. Lol
I had literally been looking forward all week for these bins. Ugh

I have been buying so much make up and skin care for someone that never actually uses what I buy! So I am throwing out anything over 12 months old that has been opened and used just a few times. I will keep it all to a minimum and only allow myself to buy more once I use it regularily for a few months. That will empty out a lot of my bathroom cabinets and linen closet. I think I get overwhelmed with too much stuff and don't use it. I already gave away some things to my kids, but the rest will get thrown out.

You all are doing well! Love to hear the updates, big & small!š
This morning I went through every single piece of clothing for my two younger kids.
Tossed anything dingy. Or where the graphics had cracked on the tee shirts. Or anything with a hole (anyone else with a nervous sock thread picker?)
Pulled rainboots that the very youngest outgrew, so will be donated.
Everything in the drawers is their size. Everything fits in the drawers & closet.
I feel like I should be decluttering more things, but I'm at a point where I've decluttered my own things to where they fit in the space I give them.
And the rest of what I see as clutter is not mine to declutter.
Even my youngest kid is at an age where he can decide what is important to him and what is kept.
Not to say the house is clutter free (it isn't) or even tidy (nope), but it's not my stuff, so I can't decide its fate.
I am glad to report that my own personal use it down challenge is going quite well.
Both with toiletries and school supplies.
Apparently you can go through dozens of pencils a month when your kiddo has a generous heart and shares with every single kid that asks.

Apparently you can go through dozens of pencils a month when your kiddo has a generous heart and shares with every single kid that asks. yes you can - my youngest hands out paper and pencils and pens regularly. I added another book to the donation pile - I've only read two books (that weren't ebooks) so far this year and only kept one. It's the first of a trilogy so I'll wait until I've read all three and then make a decision on keeping them or not. I haven't bought any new books though and I'm hoping to continue on that - there is NO lack of books here. I feel like I should be decluttering more things, but I'm at a point where I've decluttered my own things to where they fit in the space I give them. And the rest of what I see as clutter is not mine to declutter. This makes 100% sense to me. I do have some more work to do on my stuff but most of what I have left involves doing something with it vs just donating...like the books I'm reading first and then donating, the photos I'm sorting and labelling and am weeding through in that progress, the scrapbook stash I'm using not buying (but there's some more purging that could happen there I think) Dh is finally sorting through his boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff - consolidating to some degree but tossing trash, shredding, and a few things are ending up in donation so I'm calling that a win. And overall, we're doing better at keeping the common areas of the house tidy and clean and mostly clutter-free.

I tackled the top shelves of my kitchen cupboards today - anyone fancy a muffin made with mix from 2018? Or something topped with chili sauce from 2015? I hear it was a good year.
I applied the "container' system too - I have 8 cup hooks...so I kept 8 coffee mugs and tossed a few and put the nicest leftover ones in the donate box.
