My mum is a super picky eater and cooked really bland food when I was a kid ... I now cook for her a couple of times per week and she is expanding her horizons at age 75! As an adult I learned to cook with fresh garlic and roast veggies ... I learned that I adore all fish and seafood! I'm not a fan of zucchini or avocado but I can't think of much else that I prefer not to eat ...

I've always been a bell pepper-phobe. Can't stand them.
In the past few years, I've found that I can take the orange/yellow/red small peppers cooked in recipes. This is HUGE.

Green peppers are just nasty. Red, yellow, and orange are all we use. Wish more restaurants would use them, but green are cheaper.

Those of us who grew up with mushy, overcooked, canned vegetables have quite a list of things we like now that we didn't. I like a lot of vegetables and other foods that I thought were disgusting. I still have some food weirdness from being forced to eat, but I've come a long way.

Almost all the vegetables I eat now were an acquired taste as an adult. I couldn't have imagined craving vegetables, but I do!

Sweet potatoes. I had my first one at 27 or 28 and I absolutely love them. I guess my parents didn’t like them as we never had them growing up.
Parmesan Cheese…REAL Parmesan cheese. We always had the Kraft shaker container growing up. It smells like vomit to me and probably the reason I don’t like pizza as my mom used to sprinkle it liberally on top of the tomato sauce. Once I had the real, freshly grated stuff I was hooked.

cooked vegetables...my mum was not an inspired cook and wasn't a vegetable fan so we only ever had green beans (french cut frozen) or canned peas or corn or occasionally broccoli....all boiled until they were tasteless and nasty. In the spirit of teaching my children to like vegetables, I've learnt to cook many vegetables many different ways - and have learnt to like most of them along the way (not lima beans though...) avocado was something I taught myself to like This is me. I especially love roasted vegetables now whereas growing up canned peas and green beans were as close as I got to vegetables. Now at least half our grocery order is fresh produce. And I love a lot of fish. Not fish sticks

As I have aged, I have confirmed the things I hated to eat as a kid, realized I don’t have to eat some of the things I ate as a kid because that was what there was to eat and as an adult I can just say no, and as an adult, it’s ok to try new foods and love them or hate them and act accordingly!

And I love a lot of fish. Not fish sticks my mum didn't eat fish but Dad loved his fish and chips so I remember when we moved to the states, mum and my younger sister would get KFC and dad and I would get fish and chips at this little hole in the wall place. My sister has only JUST started eating fish (she's nearing 50) but because I had enjoyed the fish and chips, it was easier for me to branch out to other fish as an adult. Also not a fish stick fan...ate too many when my kids were small and a friend often had a case she shared with us because she was 'out of freezer room' (which I suspect was a nice way of giving us a helping hand)

So many vegetables I thought I hated (Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant, etc.) are great if prepared the right way. Also adding dark chocolate to the list. No way I would eat it as a kid and now I prefer dark to milk chocolate.

As a child, I didn't like black pepper. As an adult, I discovered freshly ground black pepper tasted completely different, and I liked it.

For people saying they hated Brussels Sprouts as a kid but like them now, there’s a reason. Scientists have been working on the plants and improving them so they taste less bitter. And they are actually healthier now too.

My mom was a great cook and used all the vegetables. I hated Brussels sprouts; they were so bitter tasting. Nowadays I love them roasted. I read that the new varieties have bred out the bitterness and increased the sweetness.

I was raised by a mother who didn't really allow you to not eat things you didn't like. LOL She and my younger brother had soooooo many battles over food, and there were many nights he was still sitting at the table with his plate of food long after dinner was over and the dishes were cleaned up because she was so determined to make him eat things he didn't want to eat. We laugh about it now because he eats anything. Even Brussels sprouts.
I just ate what was put in front of me, whether I liked it or not. The only thing I remember not liking is sauerkraut. I'm still not a fan of it, though my brother (same one!) once canned his own made with cabbage from their garden, and it was delicious. I would definitely eat that again.
I ate Brussels sprouts, though I didn't particularly like them. My mom used the frozen kind, and usually boiled them and put salt and pepper on them. Once I moved from home, I never cooked them or ate them again. Then, about 8 years ago, a coworker brought in some roasted Brussels sprouts for lunch and she forced me to try one.
Fast forward to now...I could eat them every single day, fixed any which way. They are my favorite vegetable. I always order them if they are on the menu in restaurants. I buy them fresh from the produce department, never the frozen ones. One time, I had a craving for them and they were out so I thought I would try the frozen ones now that I knew I like them. Nope. They were gross and I threw them away.

Avocado and its friend guacamole! I was this way too! In my 30s I started to eat and LOVE avocados and guacamole UNTIL ... I found out I was ALLERGIC! My SIL makes AMAZING Guacamole that we usually had at partied and get togethers and I thought, my runny nose, eyes, sneezing, swollen throat and horrible reflux that wouldn't go up or down was just from over-doing it. Same thing happened when I ate California Rolls Sushi with avocado and I put two and two together and I'm SO SAD! I LOVE, LOVE avocados!! Last summer on the 4th of july, I took Benadryl and had some guacamole though! I was drowsy but no reaction! It was delicious!

There are a lot. I was pretty picky when I was younger but now I love mushrooms, tomatoes, roasted brussell sprouts, asparagus, peppers (of any kind), avocado, I'm sure there are many other things that I just can't think of at the moment.

I have gone backwards. Used to be much more of an equal opportunity eater and would try and pretty much eat anything with the exception of liver or meatloaf. Now I am extraordinarily picky. Now I only eat a few food basic genres; Goldfish crackers, eggs, yogurt, some fruit, a few fresh vegetables, raisins, a very select bit of meat/chicken/seafood, most sushi, most Dim Sum and non-chocolate ice creams and sugar treats. Everything else is out.

Brussel sprouts definitely. I wouldn't eat them as a kid but I love them roasted now. I'll eat anything except clams and snails. Got no time for those two things.

I grew up in the Midwest and meat and potatoes/salad were an almost every night occurrence. We had corn or peas almost exclusively. It wasn't until I moved to Colorado where I found a love of Mexican (both fast food and fine(r) dining as well as Chinese). We had Taco Bell growing up, but the beans are ewww to me. As we travel, I have found that I like a lot of regional foods that we found in Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. I love going to all-inclusives so I can try lots of regional items and not feel too bad if I don't love them. Every meal I always try something new.
