Is it the Hero Arts fence stamp? It sounds like a lot of people not he FB page are have issues with that one. No, the one I have issues with (so far) is the Altenew. The center of the largest focal point will not impress. I submitted a photo as well as the google form, so hopefully it will be replaced. Oh that’s good to know. That’s one of my favorite classes so I’ll make sure to test it today.

I have done the panel trimming and die cutting for Gina K!
And made my DS's birthday card.
So, if Magic Mats didn't wear out, they wouldn't sell them in two-packs, huh? How much die cutting should you be able to get from one magic mat or cutting plate?

scrappinheather, does the bubble mailer trick you learned from pinkfresh require a specific type (all-plastic vs. kraft paper outside) of bubble mailer?

Girls, make sure to check your stamps. I have one so far (of course the one I want to use NOW) that will not fully impress the middle of the image. This.^^^ Every new stamp I get I tape the backing sheet to the door of my stamping platform with blue painters tape and stamp the whole thing to make sure it works. I'm having problems with the LDRS set. Anyone else? The cake, cupcake, make a WISH and the large and small celebrate. It's like they aren't etched deep enough and I get over-stamping. ETA: I stamp on scratch paper not the good stuff. I just pulled this set out. Have you tried taking the stamps and stamping them individually? I did 3 phrases, the cupcake, and the cake. After the second time they look decent enough. The numbers in this set are being a pain for me. There are bits here and there that I’ll have to fill in by hand though. 👎🏻

How much die cutting should you be able to get from one magic mat or cutting plate? I’m on my second mat since one was gifted to us in late September for the fall C+C. My second one is on its last legs. I die cut A LOT. At $10 for two of them, it’s not going to break the band for me. My weakness is the actual dies!

Hi again I’m prepping for the LDRS class and am wondering if anyone would be willing to suggest a color palette to use card #1 for me during class? Instead of the colors suggested, I’d like to make a version (changing out some of the sentiments) for a 30-something man. I’d love to do it in similar tones like the example, but everything I’m playing with feels boring to me. Do I want to go with contrasting colors instead? And if so, do you have a palette in mind? I’m afraid i could make it turn childish if I’m not careful, KWIM? Would grays and brown be to dull? Thanks!

I originally stamped the cake and cupcake separately - doing the homework - and those two had so much ink everywhere that I decided to test the other stamps. That's when I discovered the two additional stamps didn't stamp correctly. I spent a good 20 minutes or so on it and my bin is full of bad stamping. I tested it with GinaK, VersaFine, Memento and LF inks. Neenah cardstock and plain printer paper. I put foam under the paper and that made it worse. And yes the stamps were "conditioned" first. When first saw the stamp set I was "Hmmm, not sure about it". But the more I look at it I do like it. I like the small phrases and the size of the numbers.

@giantsfan, I hope you’ll submit the form to get them replaced. I think this set has lots of potential for fun cards!

Do the HBD in lime green and the Celebrate in navy blue?yesterday at 4:29pm GiantsFan said: Every new stamp I get I tape the backing sheet to the door of my stamping platform with blue painters tape and stamp the whole thing to make sure it works. I found with the cake and cupcake, I had to lightly ink them and then stamp once or twice. They are not deeply etched, so I found a lighter inking worked for me.

Thanks for the reply, MichyM. I was wondering if I should place an order and have a backup on hand. I got mine in the fall when it was the freebie and have been using it since the day after Christmas. So, yes, I should order replacements.

I tried the "lightly" technique this morning with the cake and it's better. Thanks!. I'm going to play with them some more today (lightly stamping) to see if I can get consistent results. I have lots of cakes and cupcake stamps but I really like the Make a Wish and Celebrate words. (and TBH I don't like the wonky cake look and probably won't use it)

Don’t know if I am being reasonable or if this is just grumpy Daylight “Saving” Time me talking, but can someone tell me why Spellbinders had to give us such tiny pieces of cs to diecut? Did we not pay enough for this event?

Well, I have been working with Club Scrap and Simply Simple Stamping -- they both come up with panel and die cutting schematics that waste very, very little cardstock.
I've found many of the classes to have way, way more card stock than necessary. Now, grant you, that can be used elsewhere, I'm sure. But I kind of appreciated the economy of Spellbinders. For most of the tiniest pieces, I cut them all and could probably do so again if I needed to.
But I'm definitely an odd duck.

Today I finished the Concord and 9th die cutting and the Spellbinders homework -- but only the part listed as homework, so I haven't attempted the big die that was giving folks issues. I figure do all the homework homework, then work on the nice to have completed stuff.

For some reason, I just can't get into he LDRS cards. I'm guessing because the examples are so specific and I don't know anyone turning 16 or 21. It seems so weird to put 63 or 51 on a card. If you are putting your own twist on these cards, what will you be doing?

I'm struggling with these specific cards, too. For the 21 card I plan to use another cake from my stash instead of the 21 and move the birthday/celebrate circle to where this cake is. For the 16 card, I'm going to leave off the sweet and use a 10 for a birthday coming up. I don't ever use HBD, so for that card I will leave it off.

Card #3 I think I may pull out the slice of cake stamp from the fall Ranger class to use in place of the 16. Like GiantsFan, I’m don’t use the acronym HBD, so I need to figure out what to use instead of it. I’m hoping I have a stamp that says Happy Birthday in a bold, simple font.

By 7:00/7:30, I know I will be completely out of gas. I've set aside the Simon Hurley and LDRS sets completely. I'm not doing the homework, choosing inks, nothing. I'll watch the classes and then decide what to do.

Just a little FYI. I was just on Amazon to buy more Hammermill 100lb cardstock which is the same lovely, super-smooth, heavier CS in our boxes. I switched to it from the 110lb Neenah last fall. Last time I purchased a ream of it was 11/22 and it was $34. It is currently priced at $26. I love it when prices go DOWN. I have a question. In the larger set of Brutus Monroe dies, there is a very large die. Looks like we don’t use it in the projects. Can anyone tell me what it’s used for/how to use it? You can either PM me or put the answer in a spoiler. Thank you so much!
I also want to add that one of the word dies is so difficult to read :/ the stamp appears marginally better. Poorly designed IMHO, am I the only one? Is anyone feeling inspired by the contents of this class? I’m not feelin’ it yet and could use some encouragement/ideas. I hope lots of people post different/their own versions of these cards after class is over to help me out!

If you look at the homework instructions for that class, MichyM , it says to cut white cardbases, but die cut a black card base. I think that die is a card base die, but I'm not entirely sure. I am very frustrated that there isn't more information about that packaged with the die, so it would be easy to use later -- not to mention to finish the homework! I very much like the looks of the products in the kit and the overall style of the cards, but I am unimpressed with the instructions provided. Also, that's another 7 pm class, so I won't be trying to craft along. So it doesn't matter to me to much that I can't quite figure out the homework for it. Looking at more of the instructions for that card, I'm more convinced that I'm right about the large die, but I'm still confused about other aspects of that card and still don't think the instructions are clear enough.

I'm not exactly sure how it works but I *think* we use it for card #1 and #2. I'm not a fan of those tiny sentiments and probably won't use them. However, this is the first time I actually like the Brutus Monroe products we've received in a box. I don't care for the colors used in the example so I'm going to change those up but I will definitely use the stamps, dies & stencils.
