I just got a call tonight from "The Dept of the Treasury". Same guy. Indian accent. I was actually returning the call because the message on my machine (another Indian accent, woman this time) saying call back "the second you get this...or have your attorney call...but if you don't call, you may be arrested." I called the number, not knowing it was the "DOT" yet, but still thinking it's a scam. First thing they asked, are you calling from the phone you got the message on. First red flag. I said I think this is a scam, he hung up on me. I called back and asked for supervisor. Oh, the supervisor is out but will call you back in 30 minutes. I said, no he won't because this is a scam. He then yelled Fu*k you!! Oh boy. How dumb do they think we are??

ALL OFFICIAL NOTICES ARE MAILED USPS!!!
Emails and phone calls are SCAMS!!!!
But depending on how I am feeling I do love to "play" with them. I also let them know my uncle is a Treasury Agent and would it be a problem if he stopped by to pick up the papers. BTW, yes I have an uncle that is a retired Treasury Agent.

I love the ones that say, "There's nothing wrong with your credit card but you MUST call me IMMEDIATELY!" Hello, if there's nothing wrong with my CC, why would I call you - immediately or ever? I love these....they say they will save money ..., and I say, oh! Are you going to give me money? No ? Then how will you save me money? I don't carry a balance..... Click !!!

Yikes, I can see a call like that fooling someone. I just got called by American express fraud prevention, but it was real, however I wondered if someone phishing could somehow scam you out of yourcredit card number by posting as a fraud prevention person. She did have an Indian accent, but not all people with accents are scammers, I'm just lucky American express found it fishy that I'd be making charges at a tractor store in a state I've never been to!
I am glad people mentioned getting the letter though, I have gotten one and forgotten that because in my case they just corrected a missing number, it was one of those scenarios where you write the same number 8 times on one page and I missed it (paper form). They just notified me that they corrected it and the end amount was still correct.

A few months ago I got the "your computer has a virus/malfunctioning" scam phone call.
Two weeks ago I apparently received a $9000 grant that "you never have to repay". I guess I didn't sound excited enough to receive it that the lady (who, incidentally, had an Indian accent) hung up on me. I think the fact that I wasn't really saying much besides "Uh-huh", "Oh, ok", and "HUh, really? Funny how I don't ever remember applying for a grant..." pissed her off. Haven't gotten a call back. Hoping it stays that way.

I got one of those yesterday, didn't mean to answer the phone.
and having dealt with IRS issues with my sister's taxes - you will get it in writing, they do not talk to you on the phone....

I got a call like that a few months ago. It was on my work phone (my name is not associated with the number) so j figured it was a hoax, but I admit that I was a little freaked out.
