My dad built my mom all custom cabinets to go under the windows like you have. There was desk areas and drawer areas. Small drawers for stamps and big drawers and cabinets for the large items.
It was great!

I will have to tell my husband, but a custom cabinet maker will do mine well cuz my husband is better at designing airplanes LOL It's not that he couldn't do it, but money would be better spent having him do his consulting work, and he would be less frustrated. Plus less marital stress I bet. His comment, why should I get the whole room, the best room in the house?
If Mama isn't happy then nobody's happy right? Or it's right next to the kitchen so I can always be on hand while cooking? What else?

Plans are moving forward, pun intended. To all my realtor friends, folks who know people who want to move to Bend,OR . . . our home will be listed with Ludwick & Robinson around 2/21. We are planning an open house 2/23-26. We have a beautiful home on 6 acres perfect for horses or 2 steer. Lovely home with 4,000 sq ft, 5 bedrooms two full baths two 3/4 baths 4 stall garage, 2 heated garages with tons of storage 30' x 50' and 28" x 40", older barn with two storage areas. New green house 8' x 12' built during Covid. Area for raised bed garden. Close to MVHS, excellent area to raise a family or have lots of room for guests. Please pass the word!

Well believe it our not, our MN realtor says that once people know that the sellers have acceptable an offer with a property sale contingency they are not coming out to view the home. That is an answer to prayer for sure! One more day to get our home ready for photos. Our local realtor believes we will be priced right and the market will tell us. We are hoping for a quick sale, as there are very few homes with our acreage complete fencing/irrigation, size and condition of home, and large out buildings close in to town. The only thing we don't really have is a nice mountain view, unless you climb on the roof of the garage (2nd floor) easy access from back deck  |

I grew up on Kodiak Island, and watched the ocean every day. Didn't realize how much I would missed it all these years until we went back to spread my Dad's ashes in August. We had already spent time around the lake.
My husband has been a sailor since his teens . . . he and his father won the Buccaneer North American Nationals (or took 2 or 3 once or twice) for 15 years straight. He also went to the 1992 Olympic trials in a Flying Dutchman. He owns 3 sailboats and sails maybe twice a year if lucky. My heart of hearts wants him to be on a lake with a yacht club so he WILL SAIL. Life is too short and he needs more balance in his life. It just so happens I got the view I really wanted, in a home that was remodeled and finished just last March (can we say NEW home!) and it is less than 5 minutes across the lake by boat to the yacht club. His one boat that can be sailed single-handed will be docked on our dock. The other two that need a skipper and crew will probably be docked at the yacht club.
The view is spectacular because it is at least 100 feet above the lake level on the steepest area around the lake. No beach for us (play dock will be installed) to take advantage of the hard sand bottom. Here is the tram system teddyw
We will also probably put in a meandering slate stair system through the trees so we can walk down or up and not totally depend on the tram working. FYI the tram was installed last May.
AND no we do not believe that they did the remodel to flip the home, everything is high end, even put insulation for sound in the interior walls.
My thoughts on the sun room for my crafting space will require custom cabinets or very creative Ikea hacks to create an area where everything is hidden away when not in use. I am thinking of a flip up hinged area on the center island that slides into the center of the table. Underneath will be an area where a layout or project in progress an be left. To the right and left will be pull out drawers with the inks, stamps, etc in use will be until put away in their normal spot. It's a dream . . . but will some ingenuity, time, and probably more $$$ than I want to think about it could be done? I am very aware of sun damage, as my current room has a large window and I have faded a paper or two. I also want it to be tidy as it is where people will enter my home, that is if they do not go through the garage first. LOL! The sun room is almost 12' x 15", so an island possibly on coasters would fit. Since all the storage would have to be low below the windows, I've got to be creative to keep things within reach! Maybe even put cushions on top so people can lounge there?

I grew up hearing about the family cabin at gull lake.. in the 1920's and 30's. my dad would talk about stopping at the farmer's house to get cream and eggs to make hand cranked ice cream. we have many pictures of the family out on the lake and messing around. he made that ice cream til he was into his 90's.. the taste of summer.
they sold it when all the money was lost in the depression. I'll have to get out there someday.

Would you consider a bar-height island? That would give you another drawer worth of storage in your island. Also consider drawers vs cabinets for under the window storage so that you aren’t crawling around on the floor.
When we moved last fall, I agreed to a house that has my studio space in the basement. I hate it. For so long, I’ve had my space near the kitchen. I love that I can take 10 minutes here and there to work on my projects and it often inspires me to work after dinner or just when I walk by. Now that my space is in the basement, I don’t craft everyday. I need to change that when we buy this spring.

Fourth miracle that would be that my husband's intellectual property will sell and current shop leases will be taken over by said purchaser. If all of that happens, then I would get my dream craft space.
Thank you for the bar-height island, not only would it allow more storage, but I could build in pull out "drawers" as a work area at desk height. Some type of leg(s) on a hinge would add stability. (Like what is on our motor home dinette table.)

I have spent the last 7 weeks readying our home for real estate photos, videos, and finally the open house this weekend! I survived, but just barely. We had snow the first 2 days, and 4 groups through total. Beautiful weather yesterday and not one group. Today the realtor said there were 6 or 7 groups. Several that said the home "checked" all the boxes. Now to wait and see how it goes down!

WE ARE CLOSING May 5th! Through a different miracle we qualified for bridge financing with a local MN bank, which will allow us some leeway. We still don't have an offer on our current home, but we have a new realtor. Fired the first one, he just wasn't marketing the ENTIRE property. Our current home is more than just the home itself. It's the 6 acres with 3.88 of irrigation (he forgot to put we have water rights on the MLS!!!! in the desert!!!!), the two large shops, the fenced pasture, the small old barn, the greenhouse, etc. etc.
I love our new realtor, she is a friend that I should have gone with to begin with, known her since our boys were in kindergarten together 11 years ago!
Still waiting for the right pre-qualified buyer. I really would prefer to not have two house payments!

Interesting thing is, I've met several people who had parents stationed at Kodiak CGS, one was the owner of the painting business that painted our home 3 years ago, the other is a young man in our church. Both of them were also there after I left. |
