Should Joe Biden run for reelection

I really don't think he should. I have a lot of respect for him, and I think he is a compassionate man who truly wants to lead our nation to unity and equality, but I don't think he will succeed in a bid for a second term. I don't know who would be a strong candidate, I had far greater hopes for Kamala, but I dont think has shown herself to be a strong enough leader to win either. I do think however in the last election the Democrats had far too many candidates initially running and that really divided the field.

No. I don’t think he’s done an outstanding job to be perfectly honest with you. I voted for him, but I would not vote for him again. Inflation is out of control, there’s just so many things that I don’t think he’s done well we need someone 20 to 30 years younger with new ideas. No idea who that would be though.

I agree with this.

Basically where I am is that I want the democrat with the best chance of willing to run, and, because of how things work, usually that's the incumbent.

It's a lot more important to me to keep the presidency than to have a younger president or one closer to my own ideology and preferences.

I'm very much head in the sand and not wanting to deal with this question right now. In the richest country in the world, overflowing with smart and experienced people, I still can't get over the fact that Biden and Trump (or DeSantis, if it comes to that) are the very best people our two major parties can put forward. Really? Really!?

I will vote for whichever Democrat is nominated, but as Lucy so often says, I believe we are doomed. If this is the best we can do.

No, he should not run.

I don't care if the president is democratic or republican, I just want a good fit for our country.

I would prefer to see someone younger run. That said, there is no way in hell that I would vote for a Republican.

I'll vote for whomever has the D behind their name.

As for Biden, I think he's done a much better job than I expected.

I like him. As the incumbent, he has the better chance. If he runs, I think others should step back and not create a circus a la the GOP a few years back. It's bad for the party (either party)!

If he chooses not to run, it'll be interesting. I don't think he'll take that route though.

Anyone who thinks inflation can be controlled by the President is crazy. The entire World is hurting. The US President, regardless of Party, doesn't have that much power.

I think there are people out there who could be good candidates, but at this point who would want to run? The job comes along with being ripped apart by R's on the daily and putting up with their BS. I think Biden has done a good job of ignoring that for the most part, but not everyone wants to put themselves in that position. Especially if they are younger and haven't had a long career already.

I think Joe Biden is doing a good job and if he should decide to run again I will support him.  

Would I like someone younger to run?  Yes.  But it’s his decision because I think he has earned that right to decide and shouldn’t be pressured out of running.

As to who I would support if President Biden decides not to run?  

The young guy Secretary Pete.  He is more then capable to do the job but I’m told he can’t win because he’s gay.  What does him being gay have to do with his ability to do the job I will never understand.

Then there is Gavin Newsom.  When he was mayor of San Francisco he was ok, the same when he was Lt Governor.  But, IMO, since he became Governor of CA, he has come into his own.  I like him more now then in the past.  One of CA’s biggest problems is affordable housing.  One of the biggest obstacles to solving that problem is the NIMBY crowd.  A while back he said he would take on the NIMBY crowd if it meant solving the affordable housing problem in this state. Anyone who is willing to take on the NIMBY crowd is getting my vote.

But I’m told he can’t win because he is from CA.  Seriously?  CA has the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world.  It is one of the most diverse states in the United States in people that live here and the industry that’s in the state.  The state has such a diverse population if you want to be honest, it should be the first state where a primary is held.

I like Kamala Harris and I think if something happened to Joe Biden she would do a good job as his replacement.  I also see she her growing in the job as VP that would make her a better candidate if she should decide to run for President. I think she would be a good president but she was not a good candidate.

And I understand if I were to say please be specific on why one thinks Joe Biden and/or Kamala Harris aren’t doing a good job the response would be 🦗s.  Because that’s the way it is on this place.

So if President Biden decides not to run who would you like to be the Democratic nominee?

I think this is a good point. I think Biden is already having memory issues and can only imagine trying to follow anything he says in 4 years. While I won't say that I think he has full on dementia, I do think he has some symptoms/behaviors that are concerning. And he only has a 40% approval rating at the moment --- can you imagine how it will tank if/when he gets worse? IMHO it would be better to get someone younger in on the next election and have a good chance of them staying in for 8 solid years. 

For this reason. I'd like to see him back off and preserve his legacy. I think he's slipping and I don't want to see him humiliated. In four years, we could have a "Weekend at Bernie's" situation.

I have mixed feelings. I like Biden, I think he's done a good job.

Inflation is a concern, but there's very little that he can do as a president. Given global inflation, I certainly don't hold him responsible.

I was optimistic that he would be able to unite the country. Regretfully, that hasn't happened. However, Republicans and right wing media are partly responsible for the division. Their constant criticism of Biden about everything, sometimes hypocritical like "divider-in-chief" and soon to be endless investigations and a possible impeachment for some unknown infraction create division and further polarize the country.

I do think Biden has brought a sense of normalcy back to the presidency. I think he has re-established important alliances with other countries and I think he deserves a lot of credit for strengthening the UN and for uniting European countries agains the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I think withdrawing from Afghanistan was the right decision. Admittedly, there were some regrettable and tragic mistakes.

I am impressed with his judicial nominations and his cabinet choices. I am so happy to see a more diverse, qualified, competent cabinet and judges.

Happily, I think Biden has some major legislative accomplishments. The infrastructure bill was significant and will continue to have a major impact as bridges and roads are built. The CHIPS bill was also significant.

Regrettably, I think Biden often didn't get the full recognition or attention for some of his accomplishments because Trump keeps trying to steal the show - with his crazy, unhinged posts or the FBI search of Mar - a -Lago.

Overall, I think Biden has shown competency and demonstrated how government can work for the people.  I think he has restored diplomacy, dignity, consistency and compassion to the White House.

I would prefer a younger candidate.  I think there are lots of great options in the Democratic Party, but I don't know how many realistic ones.  I like Pete but regrettably, this country is not ready to elect a gay president nor a woman president, as much as I hate to say that.  VP Harris has been a favorite target of conservative media from the day she was chosen, similar to Republican attacks on Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and other powerful women.  And I think Harris has been given impossible tasks like voting rights and immigration.  Admittedly, she has had some mis-steps along the way.  She is a good speaker and there are moments like last week at the funeral of the young man killed by police in Memphis where she did well.  I just don't think she could win in 2024.  Gretchen Whitmer and Amy Klobuchar are qualified but after 2016, I would be really anxious about a female candidate against Trump. Although, if he did lose to a woman, that might be retribution and poetic justice.  

Gavin Newsome clearly has presidential aspirations but I don't like him as a presidential candidate. We would never hear the end of "coastal elites" from the Republicans.  If the Democratic Party wants to move away from that image and become the party of the working class, nominating a progressive governor from California is not how to do that.  There are other reasons I don't like him in addition to where he's from.

I really like Jamie Raskin, Beto O'Rourke, Chris Murphy and Corey Booker. I don't know if any of them have presidential aspirations or how they would do as a candidate in 2024.
