The more you stress, the longer you will delay it. Try to keep it out of your mind.
ETA : But don't delay on taking a test. You could risk some bad things if you have an ectopic pregnancy!

I agree, don't wait on taking the test. Just to be safe. 44 is young for menopause, but is it possible that could be the case?

I've had my tubes tied and two years ago, I went 18 days over. Scared me to death! The next month I had two crime scene worthy periods in three weeks.

There is a good chance your cycle will be less predictable over the next few years heading into menopause.

You are 44. 4 days late is just the beginning. Welcome to perimenopause.

Yes, 44 isn't particularly young for peri menopause. Check for pregnancy anyway, obviously, otherwise, welcome to the roller coaster!!

Mine were very sporadic after I hit 40. I remember buying a pregnancy test and my DH telling me I wasn't pregnant, I was merely old... Nice guy, but he was right!
Good Luck OP , you should do test just to be sure.

That was the age I started missing periods. Five years later and they're still all over the place, never know when one is going to strike. Well, that's not exactly true, I can usually count on it hitting anytime I'm on vacation.
ETA: I agree to test just to be sure, but if it's negative this probably won't be the last time this happens.

I'll tell you where your period is. I HAVE IT! I am 51 years old and I get it every month like clockwork. No peri-menopause here.
I'm sure everything is fine. Take a deep breath and then a sip from your wine glass and then the test, just to be sure. Hang in there.

I had the same experience...and others are right, we have entered the land of irregular cycles. Some months I'm 20 days between, sometimes as long as 96 days. I do not love the unpredictability, but it's better than the alternative. But honestly, my first (smart mouth) response to your title was...um, at the end of your sentence! Carrie

I was thinking perimenopause as well. I started in my mid 20s. There are a lot of women that start menopause early--mostly in their late 30s/early 40s, but some women do start as soon as their early 30s and a few in their 20s.
I'm sure my early menopause was because of my family history of cancer and the DNA damage from the DES I was exposed to in the womb. Since I've been down that road, I've met a lot of women that have had early onset menopause.
Menopause isn't so bad. There's a ganglion nerve block outpatient procedure that really reduces the hot flashes. I've been told that the plant estrogen OTC product Estroven? is really great for controlling symptoms. No periods is wonderful!
I definitely would get a test ASAP to ensure you don't have an ectopic pregnancy--just in case.

Yikes! Hahaha you can have mine it has been going on for 10+ days WTF ugh I hate perimenopause. One month period from a horror movie, next 2 months nada, then a period that isn't from a horror movie but goes on for days and days ugh so over it all just be done already lol.

In June of 2008, I was 43 and my oldest graduated high school. I skipped a period that month for the first time and was in a panic. DH and I had tried for years to have a 3rd child and then kind of gave up, but didn't do anything to prevent it. I didn't get another period for almost 4 months and I was afraid to take a test. DH kept saying, "we always wanted a third!" and I would just cry and tell him I was too old to start over. It was just the beginning of the fun of perimenopause. Blech!

I'll be 43 next week and my last few cycles have lasted 29/30/27/38/27 and 29 days. I'll admit the 38 day cycle had me a little worried!

Also think back to a couple of weeks ago when you should have been ovulating. If you were extremely stressed or were sick during that time it may be that your body delayed ovulation. I would not freak out just yet.

Oh, okay then! I run into people who STILL think drinking while pregnant is not so bad so probably got up on my high horse a little two quickly. I'll dismount. edited spelling
