WOW. I used to make .50cents per hour. One time I babysat 5 kids for NYE for 3 hours and they paid me $5 total and I thought I was rich. Same; .50 an hour. One family paid $1 an hour and that awesome!

Around here people don’t want teens. They want college age sitters and pay at least $20/hr. These are not famous people.

I will say, too - back when I was sitting for $1/hr the general expectation was to make sure everyone stayed alive and came inside by dark. The parents my daughter sits for have very high expectations for supervised trips to the park, no screens, reading time/homework oversight, sometimes meal prep, etc. It’s a lot more actual work than I did while sitting. I used to take a book and read, and was basically only there in case of emergency.

My college aged DD picks up kids from school and takes them to swim lessons, picks up the dog from doggie day care, plays board games because no screen time is allowed, etc. She does get study time while she waits for the kid to finish swim lessons.
