Wow, that's a whole lot of people pulling together to help her out. Very nice. Many officers go above and beyond to help people -- and absued animals -- all the time. Sometimes they are even recognized for their efforts. I remember reading about the officer who bought 27 dog sweaters for dogs that had been abused and had to be shaved at the time it happened.

That's a lovely story - some of the comments below it show just how cynical some people can be, unfortunately. She's a real little chatterbox as well!!

Thank you for sharing I hope this gets more replies then the last time someone posted a good police story last week. But it seems like people don't really want to hear about the good things police do

I think there are a lot more good cops than bad ones. Sadly, the bad ones are all we hear about.

A lot of the postitive stories are never told.
I'll share one (of many.) My LH was called to a domestic dispute between a couple. During the father's rage he tore the head off his daughter's doll. She was a puddle on the floor. My husband said just by looking around the house this might have been her only toy. If not her only, her favorite. It broke his heart to see that little girl crying for her baby doll and her dad yelling at her to stop her whining. My husband was sharing this story with me and our daughters overheard. They asked if they could give one of their baby dolls to the little girl. They got their baby doll dressed and wrote a note to the little girl about the doll, their daddy (the police officer), and themselves. It was so sweet. The next day he delivered it to the girl. Her dad said he was embarrassed by his behavior, and the girl was really excited. Hopefully the baby doll didn't meet the same fate as the last.

My dh (LEO) and I are volunteering this weekend at an event that provides a fun day (presents, activities, etc.) for kids with cancer and other potentially life threatening illnesses, along with their parents and siblings. It was started by another officer in dh's department, who had cancer as a child and wanted to give back. We spent last Friday setting up and it was cool to see how much hard work has gone in to this event. A lot of officers (including dh) donate a little of each paycheck to support this event. There definitely are many, many (the majority) good officers out there who go above and beyond to support their community.

Here's one: Efforts to help family of 9 children reaches $30,000+!!!
The children lost their home in a fire last week, after their father was murdered earlier this year. Because the home was paid-off and did not have insurance, everything is a total loss.
Officer Lee Santiago patrols the area and touched by the family’s loss. He started a GoFundMe account this week-end and already the donations have surpassed $30,000!!! Officer Santiago says he is overwhelmed with the outpouring of help for the McDermott family. The money is in a special account with the Coquina Key Neighborhood Association. The uncle, who has taken the children in, plans to use the money to add-on to his home so that they can all live together. Construction crews are donating their time to help the family.
The St. Pete Fire Dept. adopted the kids to make sure they have gifts for Christmas.
Here is a story about the family that aired on WTSP: link It's so easy for officers to become cynical, but despite all the bad they see, their hearts remain in the right place and when an opportunity comes along to be able to do the kinds of things they became a cop for, they won't hesitate to jump right in. My dh and my son are cops, and I am so proud of the work they do.

Here's a great story out of Texas, where an officer took it upon himself to help a 73-year-old widow who had no one to help.

I love these stories of good hearted officers going above and beyond. I personally have respect for law enforcement until they show me a reason not to.

My daughters and I participated in Shop with a Cop last night. What an amazing event! I loved seeing all of the kids smiles. This year they took 35 children shopping, $120 per/child. One of the boys in our group kept choosing items for family members, so sweet. One of the officers kept saying, "how about something for you?"
On our way to Wal-Mart the kids rode in the squad cars lights and sirens on. What a sight to see 35+ squad cars all together. The kids were cheering. Big smiles!

This story happened locally over the weekend. A woman was caught shoplifting eggs to feed her kids and instead of cuffing her and taking her to jail, the responding officer bought food for family.

Thanksgiving weekend there was a horrific accident on one of our freeways - a couple who had just dropped their daughter back off at college was involved. The campus police where the daughter was and the state police (I believe) met halfway in between to get her to the hospital. Sadly, one of her parents passed away - I'm not sure if it was at the scene or at the hospital.
