What is the reason for not eating them? Are you afraid of being poisoned or drugged? My Dateline brain is running overtime! Lol For me, it’s because there is no idea of the previous users’ hygiene practices. Because that mayo could have sat out on a counter for a day before being put back in the fridge. Who knows how old some stuff is, and how it’s been handled by so many different people. My friend and I were in an Airbnb for two weeks last month. 2bed, 2bath condo with all kinds of stuff in the bathrooms, and kitchen. I’ve never stayed in an Airbnb with half bottles of all kinds of crap in the bathrooms, and all the condiments, cereals, oils and all that etc in the kitchen. We didn’t touch them. Same. We didn't use a thing of theirs.

No. Except for a house that we stayed in at the Outer Banks where the owner left us a quiche (with a note) from a local bakery.

We have a lake house which we occasionally let friends and family use. I always tell people they are welcome to use anything we have (condiments, spices, etc.) but to please not leave any food which they brought with them. If they do leave food, it gets tossed unless it's sealed and doesn't require refrigeration.

Unopened, no problem. Salt/Pepper/spices okay.. unless they look icky or old. The only condiment I would consider is ketchup and it would have to be Heinz and it would depend on how it looked.. if newer and obviously only used a little, but if almost empty and well used, probably not.

The one that sticks out the most to me is the one we stayed in in NH. There was a little card that welcomed us, and there was enough to make our first dinner (I think it was spaghetti, sauce, etc), and a cake from a local bakery. There was also milk, creamer, coffee, and juice for the morning.
When we went to the store to get a few things for our breakfasts, snacks, etc. we didn't use everything, so we put it in one place in the fridge(eggs, butter, a tub of unopened sour cream, a couple of cans of beverages), and a bag on the counter to let the hosts know that we didn't want it to go to waste but it was all new. LOL

We drank some of the drinks but that's all. I have never stayed in an Air B&B that was so well stocked. Not just the food stuff but towels beach towels sand toys just everything.
