I enjoyed reading through this thread, especially with all of its chunky, contemplative responses. I've been scrapbooking as a verb for 30 years now. I certainly have the stash to show for it, though I've gone through several culls, including one very recently that I documented here. I'm probably about 75% done with a major studio reorg effort that started as just me trying to clean up a hoard up in my studio and gather items for my scrapbook store yard sale last month. We'll be at the "painting and creating a newly designed extra work area" stage soon, and that will be the final step for this reorg.
My family is so supportive of all of these efforts. It's very endearing. I'm feeling fortunate both to have such a lovely studio and also so much support and encouragement. I think that has a lot to do with the longevity of this hobby for me. My children have only known me as a scrapbooker, not as a non-scrapbooker.
I find myself looking forward to my studio time each day during my work week. My job is quite demanding and there is a significant "front-facing" element that requires a lot of effort for me as an introvert. I do still absolutely love it, but I think I am phasing out of the "all consuming" part of the work arc as I am in my fourth year of this new field and the second year as the boss. I'm seeking more balance in my life overall, and this studio reorg has been a big part of that.

"do you have any thoughts on when enough is enough?"
I have quite a bit. Ten big Rubbermaid bins full of stash and completed albums.
I haven't scrapped in a couple years, but know I want to continue someday.
Although I actively declutter other areas of my life, I don't declutter scrap stuff. I have stamps that are 20+ years old. I figure if it's the one thing that gives me joy, the one hobby that is mine, I am not going to worry about having it, just in case it has to be dealt with at my death.
But I'll leave a bit of money specifically for a dumpster rental, a few hot pizzas, and even a few junk removal workers to clean out the scrap stash, so that it isn't something they need to worry about.
