I make a lot of SS and SC 6x8 2-3 ring albums. They hold up beautifully. The Simple Stories 12x12 D ring albums were good quality. I was bummed when they were discontinued and wished I had bought more.

I love looking back through my post bound albums. They have held up well for over 20 years(i’m referring to albums i did for my grandson who turns 20 this month). I use ring bound for PL. The ones made if chipboard haven’t held up well. i purchased cheaper WRMK D ring albums from Target. They have begun to flake. The ones I bought at regular price have held up well. I make a lot of SS and SC 6x8 2-3 ring albums. They hold up beautifully. I hadn’t thought about it being a difference between the WRMK I bought at Target vs the ones I bought elsewhere, but I think you’re onto something! I’m pretty sure the ones that are disintegrating on the shelf (with no to little handling) are ones I bought at Target, but I don’t trust that others won’t, so I don’t plan to buy anymore WRMK albums.

I use the Dring albums from Hobby Lobby, I like to move things around a bit, lol....I started out with postbound and they didn't hold up for very long.

I don't like 3-ring for a variety of reasons, and I exclusively use CM albums. I typically scrap a project with an order in mind (may or may not be exactly chronological), but I don't put all the pages into the strap hinges until I'm done. That lets me move things around within a project. As I'm scrapping I just stack the pages (usually within an Iris box) in the order I think I want them and leave them stacked until finished and ready to strap them into the album.
Also I usually do a LOT of double-page LOs so I kinda do know the order I want them in (again, within a particular project). One of the reasons I personally dislike 3-ring is that I don't like the gap between the pages on double-page LOs. (Personal preference, I know.) I do love my CM albums and they've held up beautifully.
ETA: All that said, if I couldn't use CM strap-hinge albums, I'd use a D-ring/3-ring binder-type album long before I'd use post-bound! My one and only experience with post-bound (looong time ago, granted) did not go well, and the album was falling apart almost immediately.

I scrap all over the place - a recent photo, one from 10 years ago, one from 50 years ago, etc., so 3 rings are a must for me. The only thing I don't like about them is the sagging but a lot of that is solved if you really stuff them full. If they are only partially filled the pages droop.
I have all kinds and brands. I haven't noticed any wear and tear on them, but that is probably because I don't take them out that much.

If Stampin' Up ends up carrying the Close To My Heart 3 ring albums and CTMH page protectors they are a good option. I have one of the CTMH D ring albums and it is very sturdy and the page protectors are strong, but you do have the gap between the pages because the CTMH page protectors have an extra wide gusset.
