I use a vegan ranch dressing with lime juice added. I did this with ranch before I became allergic to dairy, but there's a funky taste to the vegan ranch that the lime juice covers nicely.

We just use salsa or that non chunky taco sauce. Sometimes I add a dollop of sour cream as well.

For a great bottled dressing look for Bolthouse Farms Cilantro Avocado. It's made of yogurt and it's freaking delicious like Ranch. It needs to be refrigerated if that matters. You'll find it in the produce section with the refrigerated bottled dressings. They have that one and a Salsa Ranch that's really good too. It varies depending on the grocery store you shop at. Most bigger, well stocked stores carry more variety. And grab from the back to make sure you don't get one that's expiring soon. Oh man. That sounds delicious. I'm gonna have to look for it at the store when I go this week.

No dressing, that’s just weird. Salsa or taco sauce would be better options. I think by dressing she just means the sauce-type item you put on tge taco salad, so if you put salsa or taco sauce on yours, that is the dressing. For me it is sour cream and salsa mixed together, not separate.

Equal parts salsa and ranch dressing. Iceberg and romaine mixed. Let everybody add what they want to their salads themselves! Mexican concha’s for dessert.

I know it isn’t authentic but I love Catalina dressing on my taco salad. Just regular old Kraft.

Western French dressing is delicious on taco salad. Try it, you'll be surprised. It's not just any French dressing. Salsa, sour cream, and taco sauce can be used as well.

I think it's a totally made up American Tex Mex restaurant dish. Which I love, so I don't think there should be any worries about trying to stay authentic to Mexico when it's origins are totally US made.

But an "authentic" TexMex taco salad also uses salsa instead of dressing. I mean just cause it's only been around 50 years doesn't mean we shouldn't try and be authentic I'm going to have to try some of these avocado based dressings - they sound great - and would especially be handy when avocados are out of season.

I grew up with taco salad as a mainstay in my house. You must have crushed Doritos and Catalina or french dressing. When I order a taco salad at a restaurant, though, I use ranch dressing.

I remember potlucks where this guy would bring his in and he used Italian dressing and we all loved it. there was a restaurant on our local golf course that used to serve their taco salad in one of those big tostada bowls and they'd use the curry chicken breast chopped up from another dish they served and I swear it was freaking bomb. l honestly think you can't jack up taco salad

Dressing just sounds wrong on a taco salad. I have always just used salsa. Maybe a spicy ranch or chipotle ranch but I can’t imagine anything else. I have had dressing on southwest salads but not taco salads.

I can’t imagine sweet French dressing on a taco salad, but to each their own.

We do these a lot for our game nights. We usually have some or all of the following:
Chopped romaine lettuce, tomatoes or pico de gallo,, black olives, jarred sliced jalapeños, black beans, chopped red onion, avocado or guacamole
Queso, sour cream (the squeeze bottle crema is great for these), salsa , shredded cheese
Shredded chicken, seasoned ground beef
Fritos and tortilla chips

One thing that I really like on my taco salad is crumbled queso fresco. I like the texture better on a taco salad than shredded cheddar cheese. It somehow seems more authentic to me than cheddar, but I don’t really know if that is the case.

Chipotle ranch if spicy is OK, regular ranch if some want milder. My mother always used Italian dressing on tacos but she had no taste for spicy.

I love French dressing on taco salad, though Ranch is fine if that's what's available. I hadn't thought about using Catalina, but it sounds good!

I’m another one who thinks dressing on taco salad is weird.
There’s already enough ingredients in there that are wet and coat the salad when you mix it together - sour cream, the liquid from the taco meat, the cheese that gets melty from the warm meat, avacado, salsa. You don’t need to add more liquid - it’ll turn into taco soup it’s so runny!

My actual "recipe" for taco salad calls for ground beef, taco seasoning, ranch style beans (or red kidney), lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheddar cheese, fritoes, and (oddly enough) a small bottle thousand island dressing. That's the way I ate it growing up and what I use when making taco salad.
When I am using leftover taco/burrito ingredients to make a salad I often use Marzetti Avocado Ranch dressing, which is a pretty good dupe for the avacado lime ranch dressing that chick-fil-a uses on their southwest salad. But I'm also fine with just a little sour cream and salsa. I never use dressing AND sour cream and salsa... it's either/or.
