This week we drove from NY to Florida, with our dog. We stopped after each 6-hr driving interval and stayed at dog-friendly hotels. It’s been fun. The only snafu is that my back was hurting by day three of sitting in the car. My first and almost certainly last time driving this far, but it’s been interesting.

I drive 7-1/2 hours each way by myself about every other month to visit grandbabies. Well I say by myself… I generally have two GSDs with me!
The longest though was 14 hours each way with my husband. We stopped overnight on the way out, but shared the drive and did it in one go coming home.

From Northern Virginia to Missouri via the "northern route" -- Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, etc. Then back home via the "southern route" -- Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia (starting down south...and it was on this trip when we first realized just how big Virginia really is, lol).
We did this over two weeks so it wasn't bad at all.

Michigan to Maryland by myself.
Michigan to Oklahoma with ex.
I was a baby but we drove from Michigan to Oregon as a family. As a kid we did a road trip that went from Michigan to Maine and back.
DH and I have talked about doing a road trip to Yellowstone or any of the national parks.

When DH was transferred to San Francisco back in the 80's we drove out there from Mississippi the week after Christmas - with a cat. It took several days to get there. Due to an ice storm we had to take the Southern route across Texas! The Texas portion alone was 12 hours! it was on this trip when we first realized just how big Virginia really is, lol) You should try getting across Texas!

17 hours 15 min. (without stops)--TX to SC every year when we lived in TX, and then TX to here when we moved. We would take two days to do it. I just got home from a 7 hour trip the other day (I drive that one alone often), and I will drive a 9 1/2 hour trip soon. Thankful we don't have the 17+ hour trips anymore. Those got old!

15 hours to Myrtle Beach. Never again. Beyond that, we drive to family about 9-10 hours away. I dont want to do that drive anymore either, but it's harder to justify flying when we can drive it in one day.

Even when we drive, our family carts us around since they know where they are going, so not having our own car wouldnt be a big deal. The airport is 60-90 minutes from them, so that is another factor in not flying

We have driven from WA state to MI a couple times. And also to Disneyworld. That’s the farthest. We also used to drive to southern CA once or twice a year. We usually drove for 12-14 hrs before stopping for the night (obviously stopped for beaks and gas along the way). We had VCR/Dvd players in car for the kids which was a lifesaver for sure!

Arizona to Michigan. We did this trip many times when we moved from Michigan to Arizona. It was usually me doing all of the driving, but not always. We really enjoyed it and took our time.

Ontario to Florida. We leave at 10 or 11 pm and drive until DH can’t do any more. That usually puts us in Georgia for the night and then we drive to Orlando next day. But just us and kids (back then) no animals.

I drove from NJ to San Diego after college with a friend. We only took 3/4 days. Do not recommend at this point in my life. She was moving and needed a buddy. I then flew back.
I also regularly did nj to Daytona beach at that age. I still love a good car trip but cap it at like 10 hours split over 2 days so I can see the sights and enjoy the way.

Hour north of Toronto, Ontario to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We did this last summer. We spent most of our time in Banff National Park, Alberta. It took us 5 days to get there (we didn't get out of Ontario until the third day). Then 3 days travel to reach Vancouver Island and the same back. We took 4 weeks to do this trip so that we could stay a good while in Banff and a few days on Vancouver Island. On our travel days (with no sightseeing) we would start right after breakfast and go until late afternoon, only stopping for gas and a quick lunch, about 8-10 hours a day.
Ten days of our 4 week trip were just getting to Banff and back. We had never been through the Prairies before and wanted to see it and now we have. Next time we'll fly to Alberta, rent a car and spend our time there.
We regularly go out to Nova Scotia. We drive 10-11 hours the first day to get to Edmundston, New Brunswick and then the next day we are at my hometown just south of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
When I was a teenager, we used to drive to Florida and my dad would do it non stop from just north of Toronto. My grandparents had a winter house in Orlando.

Every since I was a kid we drive from northern Alberta to southern BC in the summer. Takes 15 hours. Other than that just short 5-6 hour drives to the city or mountains. Karene have you driven the Icefields Parkway? It's spectacular.

When DH was living, we'd drive from Minneapolis to Billings, Montana several times per year. It was 850 miles, about 12 hours. I fly now!
My longest drive was a road trip with my BFF when we were 21. We drove in my new Camaro from Minneapolis to San Franscisco, down the coast highway to Los Angeles, then through Las Vegas, and back home. We were gone about 10 days.

In one shot without staying overnight somewhere was probably Vermont to Fort Myers Florida - about 30+ hours. There were 4 of us taking turns driving. But have done the VT to FL drive a few times. From Bradenton FL to Winchester Va. for a weekend/party.
My friend and I also Drove From Vermont to Bradenton Florida and along the Bottom of the US to San Diego, up the California coast to San Fransicso, then back down the California coast and back to Florida and then home to Vermont. That was stopping and seeing things. It was somewhere 8 to 12 weeks (I can’t remember now would have to check) and tenting mostly the whole time. A few nights in hotels or with people we knew. We kept track of the miles and it was over 10,000 miles we logged. It was my friend and I in a little (standard/stick shift) Chevette. (ETA - and all before cellphones and garmins, music streaming, etc. We did install a cassette player in the car before we left. 😆😆).
I did a lot of driving to places for short (in time) trips in my younger years.
When I was a kid my parents would always take our 2 week vacation and drive to some other part of the United States.

As a kid we drove from Berkeley, CA to Chestnut Hill, MA. Then back again after the school year.
As an adult we have done week long road trips from the Bay Area to the PNW and also to Arizona and Utah.

When I was 17 we drove from Michigan to Alaska. It was a 30 day trip. Awesome trip but I didn’t appreciate it that much as i had just graduated from high school and would have preferred spending that month with my friends before going off to college.

Not driving but alone on my motorcycle with no other riders. Rode from North Canton, Ohio to West Palm Beach, Florida, I think 1200 miles. Took two and a half days and was in July so a bit toasty on a bike. Had to stop every 3-4 hours since riding uses different muscles and boy did I get tired. Had a blast, was the trip of a lifetime.

Our longest together is from Traverse City, MI to San Antonio, TX, about 22.5 hours. We were younger and didn’t stop. My farthest trip solo was Springfield, MO to outside of San Antonio, which I think was just 13 or so hours. I started later in the day so I did stop north of Dallas to sleep.

Monterey, CA to where we live in NoVA - so, literally coast-to-coast - 3,000 miles.
We drive the 14-15 hour drive down to Orlando yearly. We used to stop after 9-10 hours for the night, but now we just power through and do it (and back) in one fell swoop.
When I was in grad school, I would drive from Ohio to California (and then) every year by myself. That was 41/2 days by myself each summer.
