I think it is a TLC show, but the premise is that 3 families move off the grid. I have only seen a couple of episodes so I don't how it started. My big question is what will these people do in the winter? No electricity, no running water, not very good housing? They just don't seem very prepared to do what they are doing. But on the flip side, they all have cars and seem to buy their food (instead of living off the land). Just curious if anyone else has seen it and what they think?

I haven't heard of it, but my dh would kill to live off of the grid. I'll have to let him know about the show!

You can live off the grid with running water and electricity. You would just have to provide those yourself with a well and solar cells. It's one of my dh's dreams actually. That and a little subsistence farm with an orchard and a stocked fishing pond. He dreams big. BTW, the heat thing is the easiest part of living off the grid. Wood stove. I'm surprised they don't have a garden though.
