1.5 hours for wash and 2 rinses! Yikes. That is your current machine, the Maytag top loader? Yup. If you set it to heavy soil, even more time. And God forbid I use heavy soil and "power wash" mode, that could easily go over two hours..... for one load! Thankfully, we rarely use the heavy soil mode and the power wash even less.

I hate top loaders that don't have agitators and I'm short and can't easily reach the bottom.
My front loader doesn't smell but I do leave it share to make sure it dries out.

the high efficiency makes for longer wash times even in short wash cycles. a regular wash with two rinses is 1 1/2 hours! On my standard settings, the wash times are 3h:08min, or 2hr:21min, or 1hr:28min for the "time saver" wash! The long wash time doesn't bother me at all. On the off chance that I need to do a really quick wash, I can select the 20 minute wash.

Top load, old school Speed Queen. These are the only washers still made in the USA. Not fancy, doesn't play a tune when it's done. But it will was a load in hot water. I can soak as long as I want. It gets clothes CLEAN! It takes 30 minutes or less to do a load, and it never goes out of balance.

Learning about them through here and Consumer Reports made it an easy decision when my old set died about 5 years ago. I bought the Speed Queen and never looked back! I have a front loading LG at our lake house that was left by the previous owners. I hate that thing with the fire of a thousand suns. It is super slow and doesn’t always spin out all the water. I also can’t soak a whole load like I can in my top loader at home. I’m a runner and often soak my gross running clothes before continuing the wash cycle.

i don't care if it looks like a coin-op laundromat in my house, i just the closest thing to a simple, old school machine. My husband ordered me the Speed Queen I have now. He had heard about it on the radio in his tractor (long days). He called me and asked me if I wanted "coin-op or no coin-op" I opted for no coin-op. But it is the best dang washer ever! Really works on my dirty dirty dirty laundry. Mine is several years old now. I can do a double wash (and double rinse) on my machine. That double wash is SO dang nice! The first wash cycle gets the heavy mud/crud off and the second can clean without having quite so much mud in the wash water. I think my worst ever load of laundry was when my husband fell in the pump pit at our barn... it is filled with liquid manure. His coat and coverall's were drenched. I actually had him undress outside (it was COLD) and we had to pour the liquid manure out of his coat pockets. He had called ahead, so I had a clear path to my washer, that is in the basement. I had the lid open and ready for the clothes to go in. First two washes was just to get the manure off.. then another wash to clean. ICK. I had to fish a lot of corn out of the washer tub. LOL He was pretty clean underneath - but he undressed and went directly to the shower, also in the basement. We have an entry to the house that is dedicated to 'work' - so the mud and crud stay contained. LOL

If it's common to leave the washer and dryer, I'd buy something local off of Craigslist/Let Go/Marketplace. There should be some options there, you won't be concerned if it doesn't last 10 years, and it should be a cheaper option. Chose the same color and similar style. Lots of people like matching sets and will get rid of one when the other machine goes kaput. I've had top loaders and side loaders and there are things that I like and dislike about each. You get what you pay for--the cheaper models don't have all the features, so chose what is important to you. papersilly, our washer in Belgium took 3 hours to wash for the normal setting. It took 4 hours to do a load--3 to wash and 1 to dry. And the loads were small! I've always been a laundry-once-a-week girl, but there I did laundry almost every day. I easily did 8-10 loads a week. You could only fit one king sheet in at a time, so it was 3 loads to wash the sheets if I did the blanket too.

Buy a used washer from someone and put it into the house you are selling.

Where did you all purchase the Speed Queen? Nebraska Furniture Mart. I can't remember if it came from Omaha or Des Moines. They have stores in both cities.
