Her conclusions are always amazing

I wasn’t going to comment about the debt ceiling because I’m sick and tired of these fights, but I can’t help myself. GOP’s fervent embrace of supply-side aka Reaganomics (which really means the GOP loves the 1% of the population and the rest can rot) just ended up causing more deficit spending. Did “trickle-down” lift all boats? No. We ended up with more leaky boats. Our wealth inequality now is the highest compared to peer countries. And almost every single damned time, they bitch and bitch and bitch about social safety nets like SNAP and Medicaid when we have almost a 12% poverty rate here. Green energy tax credits, student debt relief, add’l IRS funding—these are meant to help the middle classes who are always left to disproportionately shoulder the majority of the tax burdens every single time the GOP goes to bed with the Forbes 400. No Dem will vote on repealing/cutting these no matter how loud McCarthy hollers. If McCarthy wants to cut spending, then propose a separate legislation for that purpose. As Heather correctly pointed out, the debt ceiling is not for future spending; its purpose is to authorize the Treasury to borrow (e.g., sell more bonds) so we can pay the bills we already have. That’s basically what Biden is saying—you want a budget with spending cuts, then create a budget, but don’t hold the US economy hostage.

I’m not really sure what to make of Murkowski’s surprise. Was she not reading the papers prior to the confirmation hearing? It was well-known then Kacsmaryk was virulently opposed to abortion and LGBTQ rights. Is this purported surprise an attempt at CYA?

This is a great point about the Biden ad and Republican counter ad
MSNBC’s Steve Benen notes that the ad “accidentally makes an important point.” Unable to find anything horrific about Biden’s actual record, “the RNC found it necessary to peddle literally fake, made-up images referring to events that have not occurred.”
Bloomberg columnist Matt Yglesias tweeted: I feel like if you have to use fake [images] of hypothetical future bad things that might happen if the *incumbent president* stays in office, that itself tells you something.”

I'm convinced E Jean Carroll is telling the truth. Her account has not wavered at all despite sustained threats. There are also two women who can corroborate her allegation: Lisa Birnbach and Carol Martin. Additionally, two other women—Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff—will testify they’d also been sexually assaulted by Trump. (There’s a clear pattern here. There are others apart from Leeds and Stoynoff who have gone public about having been sexually assaulted or experienced sexual misconduct by Trump: Cathy Heller, Karena Virginia, Summer Zervos, Jessica Drake, Cassandra Searles, Mindy McGillivray, Ninni Laaksonen, Jill Harth, Temple Taggart, Kristin Anderson, Rachel Crooks. I tend to think there’s more—those who’d prefer to keep quiet for fear of retaliation.)

I think one of the most dangerous things Trump did was to attack the media and shout fake news every time they reported something he didn't like. At the same time, he turned Fox into a quasi state run media. He parroted things they aid and vice versa. Hannity and others said things on their shows deliberately because they knew he was watching.
I'm not really surprised Trump boycotted the dinner. Just another norm that he broke. Trump still holds a grudge against President Obama and his ego can't handle any criticism, even if it's just a joke.

Which is good and bad - at least we know now how people really feel. My daughter is expecting a biracial baby next month and I would rather know people's true feelings and remove them from my life if they are not ok with that or look down on people of color.
