I was scrolling through the new releases at SSS. I try not to be shocked by pricing but man...I don't know what to think. $77 for a stamp and stencil set. $65 for another, And the $55 stamp and die set is already sold out. $8 for 8 pieces of 4.25" x 5.5" colored CS. I mean I never thought this hobby was cheap, but holy smokes. These items are so inexpensive to produce. Are the designer fees/commissions substantial enough to explain these kinds of prices?
How do feel about prices in general?

I think its ridiculous, but as long ppl buy it they can charge whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if this will push more ppl to buy it from Ali. I want to support companies, but they are making it hard.

Prices have soared on everything, but you make a very good point. Prices for matching stencils seem ridiculous.
I have a couple of stamps with matching stencils, and they were a bit pricey even then (a few years ago). They’ve become more popular, and with inflation continuing to rise, I decided that if I wanted to add to my stencil collection, that I would use my electronic cutter and make my own matching stencils. It’s so much cheaper. Have I actually made stencils yet? Nope. But in theory, it should work.
As for the card stock, I used to pay about 99 cents per sheet when I lived near the LSS. No way would I pay that for a quarter sheet of letter sized card stock. I guess that means my current stash in my craft room is now worth a small fortune.

Wow, that just seems out of control. I expect (or maybe remember?) SSS or similar product to be about $25ish per piece (stamp set, die set) or maybe $30 for a coverplate die or big set. I can justify those prices as paying for local designers, small business employing decently paid local people to pack shipments, etc. If they manufacture locally too the prices seem relatively fair - I think that's why MFT has always been a bit pricier.
But I'm just not going to spend $60 or $70 on one set of anything. Maybe that's what they have to cost to pay for things like healthcare, wages, rents, etc these days but I won't be spending that kind of money on a hobby without a lot of thought. If that's what a bundle/set costs I'll just get the stamp, or I'll continue to use the stamps I already have, or I'll only buy a couple of times a year.
And no way no how on quarter sheets of cardstock for $1 each plus tax and shipping. I'll color my own with inks or cut down Joann cs.

As much as I love complete sets like that there is no way I’m paying those prices. The cost of dies alone just continues to justify buying my scan n cut. A $1 for a quarter sheet of cardstock, that’s crazy. I feel the same way about pastes and gels and sprays. I invested in a few small jars and little spray bottles and I make my own shimmer spray, pastes, Nuvo type drops, etc. I only make what I need in the colors I want for a particular project.

How do you make your Nuvo drops? I use Nuvo Crystal Glaze Clear and then add color with mica powder or reinkers. You can use Nuvo white and add color for a more opaque look. I mix it in small glue bottles. I wanted a particular shade of green to mimic green grapes so I mixed Nuvo jewel drops in lemon with some apple green and made just enough.

Yes, I'd say a scan and cut may be in my future. I was over at a new friends house and she gave me a 90 second demo. I really had no idea how easy it is to use.

I agree prices are ridiculous. It just makes me spend less. It helps because I have enough stuff for a very long while. Not online window shopping helps me not to "need" anything.

I think that Stampin Up prices are pretty high, but it is a MLM and I want to support my friend so I justified the higher costs. Now it seems like SSS is surpassing SU's prices.

Wow. For that price I was expecting the bundle to include the background knitting stencil or something more than just the stamps and dies. I don't really need all the dies that cut around the sentiments closely like that, not if they're going to increase the price so much. I'm assuming this set is so expensive because there are so many dies. Looking again I see that they do offer the two kinds of dies separately so you can skip the words if you prefer to stamp those on the card or skip the shapes if you use a scan n cut or scissors, so I'll give them that at least. Technically this is 3 x $25 sets. But still too much for me to spend on a regular basis.

I was looking at the new Billowing Peonies set on the Altenew website and it is $177 for the stencil, die, and stamp bundle. I thought it was a mistake, but no, the stamp set by itself is $51. I think it's an 8x10 stamp but still, inflation is a killer. It's a beautiful set, but I just can't justify that amount of money for cards/scrapbook pages.

Yeah, I'll be using my current stash until someone says "stop sending me the same cards all the time" LOL! I saw that Colorado Craft Company has made some of their stamps digital. I hope other companies follow suit. This makes me seriously think about getting a Scan N Cut. (I just can't get the Silhouette Pixscan to work properly!) ETA: the headless people stamps kind of freak me out.

It is gorgeous but holy heck, no way. It's like $140USD and that's bad enough. OTOH, I've been around long enough to remember all those years of travel/making out of country purchases when the US dollar was weak. It stinks no matter who's on the short end

This makes me seriously think about getting a Scan N Cut. (I just can't get the Silhouette Pixscan to work properly!) I couldn’t get my Silhouette Pixscan to work decently either. I ended up buying a ScanNCut. However, you don’t necessarily need the ScanNCut, IF you have a stamp platform and a scanner. I could have sworn there was a video or blog post about this, but I can’t find either right now. I’ll see if I can find and post the instructions later. I’m not sorry that I bought the ScanNCut. It’s easy and fast. You just need a solid outline, rather than artsy sketch lines with gaps. However, if your budget is tight, and you already own a Silhouette, there is a work around.

Altenew just put out an April release and nothing is as pricey as that one peony set was, FWIW. Altenew has never been inexpensive. I love their stuff, but I have very few of their products, because of the high cost. Heartfelt Creations stamps and dies are also pricey, but their quality is outstanding. They don’t sell clear stamps, but foam mounted rubber cling stamps, and their dies are sturdier, like Spellbinders. If I am going to pay higher prices, I expect higher quality. Prices on everything keep going up, unfortunately. It’s not just craft supplies.

I do know how to cut with the Sil and then stamp, using a stamp platform. I find that it's a long and cumbersome process (stamping, scanning, cleaning up the scan, etc.) for a one off card. My dream of owning a SnC is that I will be able to stamp and then immediately cut in a matter of seconds rather than the frustration of fiddling with everything.

I've always thought stamps were expensive but this outrageous! I will for sure not be adding to my stamp collection anytime soon. This. I was buying a lot of stamps/sets to mix and match with what I had, plus I few I couldn't resist. Now, it is time to do all that mixing and matching, with no more buying. I have a lot to choose from, and many I've not ever used, yet.
