It's 11:30 and I pretty much have all afternoon to play. Typically I'll just listen to music when I'm making cards, but today i want to listen to (and kinda watch) card makers. I have the usual people I follow on YouTube, but am looking for someone/something new. So, if you've watched a video recently that sparked creativity in you, or taught you a new technique, how to use a new-to-you product, etc, would you share the link here please? Thank you!

Thank you! The cars at the top of the blog post is so pretty, I’ll read it later for sure. Off to watch the video…

Not sure if you've watched anything by Erum Tasneem www.youtube.com/@erumtasneem/videosShe has lots of coloring with markers, inks, watercolors, but also some die cutting and adding little extra details to step up your cards. Mostly florals, mostly Altenew. I've jumped around and watched a few of her videos. I thought this embossing folder technique was interesting. I wouldn't use brown for the dark color but it could look quite stunning with a dark grey or black I think. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyn1TsoVbVcI haven't really come across anything really exciting lately, tbh.

So, I knew there was a video I'd seen recently that I liked, but couldn't quite find it in my browser history. I know I sometimes check into the cardmaking subreddit on my iPad in the morning, so I bopped over there. I have REALLY mixed feelings about sharing this. I don't like this crafter. I generally skip her stuff. But I think the reddit post started with a better photo of the cards than the YouTube cover, so I clicked. I believe I watched the video muted. But I like the concept. Kind of create-in-quads, but different. Club Scrap posted something similar recently, but they just used stamps along the center lines. I really like the ink blending, stamping, and embossing combination here. So, please don't hold her voice (if you listen) or mouse ears against me and maybe this isn't of interest to anyone but me, but here it is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5jYbz3jbdA

I've watched some of Erum's videos on the Altenew site, joblackford, but hadn't seen that one. I like that technique far more than using the coloring stencils with a floral embossing folder like we did in the Altenew session of C&C.

I don't own much Altenew and only the one Altenew embossing folder that we got during Crop and Create but this technique definitely makes me want to buy more!

I like that their videos are technique based, so you can learn a lot and then try your own stuff. The spring plaid backgrounds (one of their other videos) were really pretty.

And thanks to MichyM for inspiring me to dig it up. I would've forgotten about it and lost it. Unfortunately, the combination of seeing techniques like that, despising all things Tim Holtz/Distress, and following Imagine makes me want to collect EVEN MORE VersaFine Clair inks.

I watch a lot of makers from a lot of places. This is the first one I followed when I got into card making, because she was (is) into a lot of techniques and trying different things. She is an SU demo. What caught my eye that first time was her tarnished foil technique (she actually came up with it first). She may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I like her (well enough to become her customer and a hobby demo). www.youtube.com/@melissakermanmjk/videos I just like her style, maybe. I like so many "styles" though.

Thanks, kiavonne (I think). Her stuff is very different and interesting. I need a THIRD SU demo like I need another hole in my head, but I will definitely consider keeping an eye on her site anyway.

Haha. Fortunately, you don't have to buy to follow. I follow a lot of different SU and other makers, just for ideas, and use what I have in my stash for a lot of makes that are not SU related.

Well, you don't have to buy to follow, but if I'm going to buy anyway, I figure I should throw some $$ to the folks whose ideas I'm using and enjoying. I also tend to mix and match and use ideas from a SU demo with a mix of products.
Have you attended one of the events she does with other demonstrators? If so, what did you think of it overall?

I am so sorry for not responding to this sooner. I have no excuse other than not being really motivated, lately. I haven't made a card in a month or so.
Yes, I have attended the events she does with other demonstrators (Maker's Mojo events). I haven't taken any specific separate classes, as I do get some input otherwise. Disclaimer here, I joined SU at the time I found Melissa because of some of her techniques she showed and I wanted to try, and took advantage of the discount. I have a lot of product from a lot of companies. I'm just not a promoter of any particular company, so I'm kind of low key about things.
As for the events themselves, I've enjoyed most. I've looked in on other events from other demos, but I like Maker's Mojo the most. I found some techniques and ideas from all the presenters I really liked, and it is nice to have more than one person tossing out the ideas. They also don't stress on buying product during the event, and provide pdf's and videos to permanently go back to. It's a "use what you have" kind of thing, though since the presenters are all demos, you'll see the product. The events started out as an all day, one day affair, but are now broken up into a Friday evening and Saturday day event, as there are more overseas people (including one of the presenters in the UK) checking them out, so they tried to do their best to accommodate some time differences (all the presentations are live). For me, the events are fun enough, lots of folks joining in on the FB chat with their own ideas and questions (primary platform), and I'm able to go back and view past events videos for reference. If you want a referral link to the next Maker's Mojo (July 28-29), let me know. Otherwise, just send Melissa (or your presenter/demo of choice) an email, she'll take care of you and get the info to you. I'm just a hobby demo as I mentioned earlier, so I refer folks to Melissa if they want to buy product, as I'm not travelling down the "business" road. The event fee covers their time and product to put on as well as about 14 or so prize drawings they have for the fun of it all. Here are a couple of cards I made after checking out past Maker's Mojo events: www.scrapbook.com/gallery/?m=image&id=6900627&type=my&u=1561939&page=1 (a Melissa presentation) www.scrapbook.com/gallery/?m=image&id=6872049&type=my&u=1561939&page=1 (Wendy Lee presentation).

No worries, kiavonne. I realized I had just missed the last Maker's Mojo and had plenty of time before the next. They sound a lot like the virtual retreats I've been doing with my long-distance demo in format and tone, but Melissa looks far more "technique-y" than the 4 demos at Creativate. I think I will try Maker's Mojo this summer. Please message me the referral link! I do NOT need to know anything more about being a "hobby demo," I do NOT to know anything more about being a "hobby demo"....

My attempt at "faux-iling" using this technique: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAH2FRt_4F0I don't think they're quite flat/embedded enough, though. Might have to try another sandwich.
