I have considered this set of plates for a while. Embossing folders are the bane of my card-making existence.
For those of you who used to have their original plate system and have spent the money to upgrade, do you feel like it was worth the money? Is it really making your life a bit easier? Thanks a bunch!

To be able to use my embossing folders, especially the 3D ones, it was absolutely worth it. My only complaint, I have the the large Platinum and I wish the universal plates were full size for my machine.
FYI, if you decide to get the plates they’re only $37.53 on Amazon.

I have it and use it occasionally. In my opinion, it’s really geared for spellbinder embossing folders. I think it may need shims for other brand embossing folders.
To be honest, I haven’t had many issues using 3D folders or any folders with the regular base and cutting plates. I NEVER force it thru. I do sometimes use a piece of cardboard box as a shim with one cutting plate and it works great. The corrugated part gives it great flexibility.
I can’t even remember if I used the universal plates for the Altenew crop & create class. That’s how little of an impression the system has made on me.

Well, now I definitely need more opinions does anyone else feel like chiming in?

I think it comes down to the amount of pressure your machine is giving you. If you get a good impression on your embossing folders currently then the universal plates probably aren’t needed. Mine wasn’t giving me enough pressure to get a good impression so that’s why I bought the system.

I feel like I'm always messing around with the folders and it's frustrating.
I have "recipes" I use for different brands/types, but they don't always ring true. Add cardstock, add another piece of cardstock, oh no, replace those with a chipboard shim. Does the soft mat work or is it too thick. Embossing folder bends, and I've even broken one. Those kinds of issues. I get to the point where I avoid embossing folders even though there are projects I'd like to use them on.
That said, maybe I'd just be trading one frustration for another....

I did buy a Universal Plate system for my Platinum 6 - and it's helpful I think, because they have way more options. It DEFINITELY helped with the Spellbinders 3D embossing folders, and Altenew ones. And with embossing dies. But I still have problems with the Sizzix 3D ones - not sure why those are a hassle and so different - even on a Sizzix platform (I have an old one that is kind of busted, but I get it out when I do Sizzix embossing folders.) It's been a mess for me - and it seems like when I put in a 'shim' cardstock or something ... then I can't just get the sandwich through. And I've broken an embossing folder too - but duct tape has kept it together and I still use it. I even used a slim metal shim at times. TE has a set of two types of embossing mats - a slim one and a normal one I think - and I was thinking about that option too, if I ever need an $8 extra item for either free shipping or their extra bonus item. Who knows. Misting the paper does seem to help, but if I don't get enough pressure on it - such a mess. And don't get me started about running through a die with too much pressure and it cut through my silicone embossing mat. Yikes... I thought it couldn't do that - but IT DOES!

I have never had an issue using my regular plates with any embossing folder, 3D or otherwise. Sometimes I have to use shims or figure out the right sandwich but I've always been able to make the regular plates work just fine. I only bought the universal plates system because the cutting plates were longer and would accommodate longer dies. Other than that I feel like they work the same as the others. And I use them in both my Platinum 6 machine and my Big Shot Plus.

And here we are at a 50/50 split again. Gonna continue sitting on the decision for a while....
