I mean they make a pretty presentation but it’s soooo much work to just slide it off the skewer onto your plate like every other meat and veggie meal. What am I missing?

Why is it so much work? I don’t find it any more work than grilling veggies and meat separately on the BBQ. I like kabobs because it’s smaller pieces of meat that cook faster.

There was a restaurant near my house in California that sold kabobs served with rice and salad that were so amazing. I could have eaten there every other day. They marinated the chicken in something with pineapple, I think, and it was so tasty done on the grill. It may take a little more effort to put everything on the skewers, but it allowed for faster cooking and they could turn it easily, giving all four sides a little bit of crunchy texture that makes my mouth water even now.

I like them, I'll eat them, I don't hate them. But, I do agree with you that sometimes it is not easy to slide them off of the stick to eat.

I made teriyaki shrimp, pineapple, mushroom & onion kebabs on the grill tonight for dinner. After I went to all the trouble of putting the items on the skewers, all I could think was “why on earth did I go to so much trouble”? What ever was I thinking? LOL
Anyway, not everything was cooking at the same rate, so I ended up sliding all the food off the skewers on to a grill pan. So much easier! And tasted just as good off the skewers. I don’t think the skewers were necessary at all!

LOVE them! But they’re definitely more work when you put them on skewers and we’re pretty lazy like that when it comes to dinner. SO what we do instead is marinate the cubed meat like usual with pineapple teriyaki and move it to a foil pan where we mix it up with red, yellow, orange and green peppers, pineapple chunks, baby mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and onion. Baste all of that with more marinade and put the whole pan on the grill covered with foil long enough to cook the meat. Scoop it out with a slotted spoon and serve over rice. It’s WAY faster that way and it tastes the same.

I’m with you. They make a nice presentation, good for portion control, and it’s a fun party item, but if it’s just for dinner I usually put the food into a grill pan. Plus, I always forget to soak the skewers ahead of time.

Not really a fan because I am so picky.. I would waste a lot of it.

Gosh, I haven't made them in forever!
I used to make steak and chicken ones all the time in the summer. I need to get back into that.

We eat them all the time. Being half-Persian, they are a staple in our home.

I like the possibilities of combining different items on a kabob. And how difficult can it be to take a fork and slide the stuff off the skewer?

I like them. I don’t have a grill so I don’t make them but enjoy them at barbeques. I like beef, red pepper, onion and mushrooms on mine. Grilled veggies are yummy. Maybe I need a little gas grill….

I like them, if they have food on them, that I like to eat. If not, I pass on them.
If I were making them at home, I would use kabob baskets instead of skewers.

Yes but I agree with you. They are a such a hassle to make for a family or gathering. So, I do the same foods in a grill pan and get the same effect for far less work.

Love kabobs. We just grilled them last weekend. We do filet mignon, mushrooms, red & yellow bell pepper, onion chunks and pineapple. I soak it all in teriyaki sauce then alternate it on the skewers. The pineapple rings I put on the grill on a wire rack not on the skewers. Serve it with rice, small salad and garlic bread. YUM!
I too don't get how it is too hard to take it off the skewers. I just slide everything off after it is grilled and put it all on one big tray. We put the tray on the table and serve onto plates from the tray. It is one of my easiest meals to make.

I like them fine. I don't have any real strong feelings either way. It's more about whether the food tastes good rather than whether it is on a skewer or not.

I too don't get how it is too hard to take it off the skewers. I have had kabobs where the meat just won't move. Maybe the type of wood that is being used makes a difference.

I like the idea of them, and we have a couple of recipes we like. But when I see them outside our house they almost always have bell peppers on them and that ruins the flavor of the surrounding food for me.

I do love them. They don't take long to do- But I make them with red peppers, sweet onion, baby portobellos, san marzano tomatoes, pineapple and marinated tofu. I LOVE THEM. The longest is the draining and marinating of the tofu. But tbh- I could eat them several times a week. Damn, now I want that for dinner.

No, I find that the premade, raw kabobs never cook correctly- the center pieces of meat are undercooked and the outer pieces are overcooked. Add to that the fact that they usually have green pepper and Im out. Id rather just grill chicken or beef and grill veggies on the side.

We got those too and they really do make the whole job easier. BUT we still usually just cook all the stuff in a foil pan.
