Simple question. What do the Republicans offer to help people put food on the table? Anything?

Archer's interview from Reuters 10 days ago. Or, you can read the transcript itself oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Devon-Archer-Transcript.pdfwww.reuters.com/world/us/former-hunter-biden-associate-interviewed-by-republican-led-us-house-panel-2023-07-31/"The witness stated unequivocally that there is no evidence in his possession or his knowledge that Joe Biden ever discussed business with Hunter Biden, Joe Biden ever did anything on behalf of Hunter Biden's business interests," Goldman said.
Goldman, the Democratic representative, said the then-vice president's interaction with his son's business associates was just "casual," however. Archer told investigators that Hunter Biden spoke with his father daily while serving on the Burisma board and had the elder Biden talk to his associates and others by speaker phone about 20 times over 10 years.
"It was all casual conversation, niceties about the weather, what's going on. There wasn't a single conversation about any of the business dealings that Hunter had," the New York Democrat said.
www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/testimony-from-hunter-biden-associate-provides-new-insight-into-business-dealingsHowever, though pressed repeatedly, Archer offered no tangible evidence that Joe Biden’s role in his son’s work was more than saying hello during their daily check-in calls.
“You know, Hunter spoke to his dad every day, right?” Archer said to committee members and staff on Monday. “And so in certain circumstances, when you’re in — you know, if his dad calls him at dinner and he picks up the phone, then there’s a conversation.”
He added, “And the, you know, the conversation is generally about the weather and, you know, what it’s like in Norway or Paris or wherever he may be.”
Archer testified that over the span of their decade-long business relationship, Hunter Biden put his father on the phone around 20 times while in the company of associates but “never once spoke about any business dealings.”
At one point, Archer was asked point blank: “Are you aware of any wrongdoing by Vice President Biden?”
He responded, “No, I’m not aware of any.”
Overall, the transcript portrays the president’s son as capitalizing on his father’s name, but not necessarily promising or delivering any influence that would rise to a questionable level or approach wrongdoing.
However, the top Democrat on the Oversight panel, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, said the transcript proves “once again” that Republicans cannot produce any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden.

From the Election Law Blog…. link“ Baude and Paulsen: Donald Trump Disqualified to Serve as President Under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment”From the article… “Will Baude and Michael Stokes Paulsen, two eminent conservative legal scholars, have posted this draft on SSRN (forthcoming University of Pennsylvania Law Review). Here is the abstract: Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment forbids holding office by former office holders who then participate in insurrection or rebellion. Because of a range of misperceptions and mistaken assumptions, Section Three’s full legal consequences have not been appreciated or enforced. This article corrects those mistakes by setting forth the full sweep and force of Section Three. First, Section Three remains an enforceable part of the Constitution, not limited to the Civil War, and not effectively repealed by nineteenth century amnesty legislation. Second, Section Three is self-executing, operating as an immediate disqualification from office, without the need for additional action by Congress. It can and should be enforced by every official, state or federal, who judges qualifications. Third, to the extent of any conflict with prior constitutional rules, Section Three repeals, supersedes, or simply satisfies them. This includes the rules against bills of attainder or ex post facto laws, the Due Process Clause, and even the free speech principles of the First Amendment. Fourth, Section Three covers a broad range of conduct against the authority of the constitutional order, including many instances of indirect participation or support as “aid or comfort.” It covers a broad range of former offices, including the Presidency. And in particular, it disqualifies former President Donald Trump, and potentially many others, because of their participation in the attempted overthrow of the 2020 presidential election.”

I’m just here to make something perfectly clear, not to relentlessly argue with anyone. I read the Devon Archer interview transcript, and by “read,” I mean all 141 pages of it. There is nothing in that transcript that indicates in any way whatsoever that Joe was involved in his son’s business dealings; or that he did anything criminal; or that he received bribes, payolas, kickbacks, whatever anyone wants to call them; or that he wanted Shokin fired because Shokin was investigating Burisma; or that he, as then-VP, implemented policy to benefit Hunter. None. In fact, just addressing the most longstanding allegation against Joe, Archer himself confirmed that Shokin was GOOD for Burisma as far as their business was concerned. If Shokin was good for Burisma, why would Joe push for his removal if what he allegedly wanted according to the GOP was to protect Burisma and Hunter’s interests? This is just one allegation of many against Joe that fell apart after scrutiny and testimony under penalty of perjury by Hunter’s main business partner. Does Hunter come out smelling like a rose here? No, he doesn’t. As many have said before, if there is evidence of criminality, then charge him. I have no inclination to defend criminality, irrespective of politics. So, if there’s anyone predisposed to believing claims such as Trump's " Hunter’s ex-business partner, Devon Archer, could blow the lid off Joe Biden’s phony claims of innocence!" or Comer’s belief that Archer would deliver damning evidence of [Joe] Biden’s involvement (i.e., " Every day this bribery scandal becomes more credible."), you’ll have to read the transcript yourself and determine who’s taking you for a ride. I'm not going to "relentlessly argue" either, I'd just like to know where in the 141 pages you saw that. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, I just watched Devon Archer say the words that "Shokin was a threat to Burisma" and I'd like to see if I can figure out why the difference.

”Was Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin prosecuting Burisma?
CLAIM
Trump said that the Ukrainian prosecutor Joe Biden had pushed to oust, Viktor Shokin, was "prosecuting" the company where Hunter Biden sat on the board, Burisma.
CONCLUSION
Shokin was not prosecuting Burisma.
EVIDENCE While there had been an investigation of the company, Shokin's former deputy, Vitaliy Kasko, has said that it was dormant at the time of Joe Biden's intervention. (The former US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, George Kent, testified in Trump's impeachment inquiry that Shokin was corrupt; the US and its allies had made a coordinated effort to oust him.)

Happy to see that someone is looking at the long game and trying to do something about the stranglehold that Republicans have on state governments. Tennessee, Ohio and Alabama should be major red flags for how Republicans will try to subvert the will of the voters, or in Alabama’s case, a conservative dominated Supreme Court. And it’s long past time for the octogenarians to allow the younger generations to take over. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/08/11/gen-z-david-hogg-state-legislatures-maxwell-frost-maga-trump/“Young people are incredibly energized by the MAGA takeover on the state level,” Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D), who went viral lambasting the GOP “groomer” smear, told me. “It’s energizing them to run.” According to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, more than 100 Democratic legislators aged 35 and under have taken office since the 2022 elections. Similarly, the group Run for Something, which recruits progressives for state and local office, says that since 2017, it has elected nearly 300 people under age 40 to state legislatures across the country. Consider the view from the vantage point of liberal Gen Zers. They grew up during the Great Recession. The GOP they know, aside from the maniacal culture wars, was hijacked by then-Speaker Newt Gingrich’s scorched-earth politics in the 1990s, launched the Iraq War, nominated Trump, defended his effort to destroy constitutional democracy, and will likely nominate him again. Yet the filibuster and malapportioned Senate give the GOP outsize veto power over national progress. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court handed the GOP a presidential election victory, has overturned a fundamental right, is riddled with institutional corruption, and is thwarting governmental efforts to sensibly regulate guns and combat climate change even as the planet burns. No wonder national politics looks like a train wreck to the youths. But time might be on Gen Z’s side. “We’re going to outlive the Supreme Court,” Hogg told me. “And we’re going to outlive most of the people in Congress.”

Alabama legislators just ignoring the Supreme Court to try to stay in power. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/08/10/alabama-voting-rights-redistricting-map/A panel of three federal judges in Alabama will consider on Monday the state legislature’s latest attempt to draw a congressional district map. It should reject this one, too. The three-judge panel should not allow this disregard to stand. The court would be justified in appointing a special master — that is, an independent expert tapped by the judges — to draw a new election map. And the court should move quickly. Alabama’s GOP-controlled legislature should not be able to run out the clock until the 2024 election, locking in a deficient map for another cycle. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/august-10-2023Last Saturday, Republican leaders in Alabama illustrated that their ideology means they reject democracy. After the Supreme Court agreed that the congressional districting map lawmakers put in place after the 2020 census probably violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act, a lower court ruling that required a new map went into effect. But Alabama Republican lawmakers simply refused. Alexander Willis of the Alabama Daily News reported that at a meeting of the Alabama state Republican Party on Saturday, the party’s legal counsel David Bowsher applauded the lawmakers, saying, “House Speaker [Kevin] McCarthy doesn’t have that big a margin, that costs him one seat right there. I can’t tell you we’re going to win in this fight; we’ve got a Supreme Court that surprised the living daylights out of me when they handed down this decision, but I can guarantee you, if the Legislature hadn’t done that, we lose.” Paul Reynolds, the national committeeman of the party, went on: “Let me scare you a little bit more; Texas has between five and ten congressmen that are Republicans that could shift the other way,” he continued. “How could we win the House back ever again if we’re talking about losing two in Louisiana, and losing five to ten in Texas? The answer’s simple: It’s never.” Alabama attorney general Steve Marshall added: “Let’s make it clear, we elect a Legislature to reflect the values of the people that they represent, and I don’t think anybody in this room wanted this Legislature to adopt two districts that were going to guarantee that two Democrats would be elected…. What we believe fully is that we just live in a red state with conservative people, and that’s who the candidates of Alabama want to be able to elect going forward.” The determination of Republican officials to hold onto power even though they appear to know they are in a minority is part of what drove even Republican voters in Ohio to reject their proposal to require 60% of voters, rather than a simple majority, to approve changes in the state constitution.

Trump keeps fund raising off his indictments but he’s spending it on lawyers faster than he can bring it in. I’m not a fan of either one, but Christie and Barr are calling him out for using small donations to pay his legal fees, instead of contributing himself. www.nytimes.com/2023/08/11/us/politics/donald-trump-legal-bills-campaign.htmlSpiraling Legal Bills Threaten Trump With a Cash Crunch The former president’s political orbit, including the super PAC that backs him, is already spending more than it is taking in — an unusual trajectory this far out from an election. Donald J. Trump’s legal problems aren’t just piling up — his legal bills are, too. New financial reports show that the former president’s various political committees and the super PAC backing him have used roughly 30 cents of every dollar spent so far this year on legal-related costs. The total amounts to more than $27 million in legal fees and other investigation-related bills in the first six months of 2023, according to a New York Times analysis of federal records. That $27 million in legal costs includes Mr. Trump paying at least eight law firms more than $1 million each in the first half of 2023, part of a sizable set of legal billings expected to spiral upward in the coming months as his overlapping criminal cases wind their way toward courtrooms in New York, Florida and Washington, D.C. The new disclosures revealed the remarkable degree to which Mr. Trump’s political and legal cash are intermingled, much like his own political and legal fate. Mr. Trump’s complex political orbit is already spending more than it is taking in, and tapping into money it raised years ago — an unusual trajectory this far out from an election. And the burn rate raises questions about whether such an approach is untenable, or whether Mr. Trump will eventually need to dip into his own fortune to pay for his lawyers, his 2024 campaign or both. The decision to use donor dollars to pay his legal bills has generated increasing backlash among 2024 rivals, with the loudest criticism coming from former Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, and other Republicans. Bill Barr, Mr. Trump’s former attorney general, said on CNN last week that the practice was “nauseating.” “This guy claims to be a multibillionaire and, you know, he goes out and raises money from hardworking class — hardworking people, small donors, and tells them, ‘This is to defend America,’” Mr. Barr said.

Graham as chair of judiciary committee.. Graham requests Biden-Ukraine records from State Department Kurt Volker, a former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine called by House Republicans to testify at impeachment hearings, called allegations of corrupt intent by Biden “self-serving and non-credible.” A former Shokin deputy has said investigations into Burisma were long dormant by the time he secured Shokin’s firing in late March 2016. On Thursday, a key witness in the impeachment probe, David Holmes, an official at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, said the same during his testimony before the testimony before the House Intelligence Committee. www.politico.com/news/2019/11/21/graham-ukraine-state-department-biden-072692Oct 3, 2019 - Politics & Policy 3 GOP senators called for Ukrainian government reform in 2016 letter3 Republican senators joined a 2016 push for Ukraine to reform its prosecutor general's office and judiciary, a bipartisan letter uncovered by CNN shows, mirroring the contemporaneous work of then-Vice President Joe Biden. Why it matters: The letter to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko illuminates bipartisan support in the U.S. to pursue corruption reforms in the prosecutor general's office. It also undermines claims from President Trump and Republicans that Biden demanded Ukraine terminate Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin and drop its investigation into the company for which Biden's son, Hunter, sat on the board. The letter was signed by 8 senators — 5 Democrats and 3 Republicans: Sens. Ron Johnson (Wis.), Rob Portman (Ohio) and Mark Kirk (Ill.). More This 2016 letter proves that GOP attacks on Biden over Ukraine are nonsenseIt wasn’t just Biden who wanted reform in the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office. Republican senators did, too. By Alex Ward on October 3, 2019 12:30 pm The reality is that the Obama administration — as well as many other Western European officials — wanted the prosecutor, a man named Viktor Shokin, removed because he was believed to be trying to stymie anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine. That makes sense if you are willing to look at this with an open mind. Whatever the company paid these individuals to be on the board was a small price to pay if it did contribute to “whitewashing their reputation “. From NPR… link“Burisma faced a money-laundering investigation and questions over how it had obtained some of its licenses to drill for natural gas. In spring 2014, the company appointed Hunter Biden and a former Polish president, Aleksander Kwasniewski, to its board. Three years later, Burisma added Cofer Black, a former CIA official and foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, to the board. " I believe the only reason Burisma and Zlochevsky were inviting people with such names was to whitewash their reputation and to present themselves as a company doing legitimate business in Ukraine," says Daria Kaleniuk, head of the nongovernmental Anti-Corruption Action Center in Kyiv.”

From the Intercept… link” I Wrote About the Bidens and Ukraine Years Ago. Then the Right-Wing Spin Machine Turned the Story Upside Down.”From the article…. IT’S STRANGE TO see my journalism twisted, perverted, and turned into lies and poisonous propaganda by Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and their enablers. But that’s what has happened to a news story I wrote four years ago. In 2015, I wrote a story for the New York Times about Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Ukraine. Many observers now seem to think this suddenly hot story came out of nowhere this year, but that is not true. The truth behind that story has been lost in a swamp of right-wing opposition research, White House lies, and bizarre follow-up stories. Now it appears that the Biden-Ukraine story will play a role in a new impeachment inquiry against Trump, amid evidence that he sought to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by withholding U.S. aid unless Zelensky agreed to investigate the Bidens.“ Whether you believe what this guy is saying or not he does give a good picture, IMO, of what this is all about.

From politico... Surely a wait of SIX years to register does not suggest great confidence... Blue Star registers retroactively for Burisma work By CAITLIN OPRYSKO 05/17/2022 05:44 PM EDT With Daniel Lippman BLUE STAR REGISTERS RETROACTIVELY FOR BURISMA WORK: Democratic lobbying firm Blue Star Strategies has registered retroactively as a foreign agent for work it did in 2016 on behalf of Nikolai Zlochevsky (also known as Mykola), an executive at Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings, according to documents with the Justice Department filed late last week. — The registration, roughly six years after the work was performed, came as the lobbying firm was under investigation by the Justice Department for potential illegal foreign lobbying, as POLITICO reported last summer. Blue Star noted in its filings that the firm was reporting its work for Zlochevsky “pursuant to guidance from DOJ personnel.” — Karen Tramontano, a former deputy chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, and Sally Painter, another Clinton White House alum, began working for Burisma “to further its commercial interests” in November 2015, according to documents filed with DOJ. But the firm concedes that meetings with State Department officials it helped set up and attended were “indirectly in the interest of Burisma, but … primarily in the interest of Mr. Zlochevsky.” At the time, Zlochevsky had faced accusations in Ukraine and the U.K. for misappropriating government funds and money laundering, respectively, and of general corruption by the then-U.S. ambassador to the country. — Hunter Biden, the son of the then-vice president, sat on Burisma’s board at the time and helped broker the energy company’s arrangement with Blue Star, The New York Times reported — a tie that ultimately triggered the series of events leading to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. www.politico.com/newsletters/politico-influence/2022/05/17/blue-star-registers-retroactively-for-burisma-work-00033202

More Republican threats. What makes him think that their scheme with fake electors was legal & they should be protected? It's not weaponization every time a Republican is charged with something. They are sometimes guilty of committing crimes like forgery, conspiracy to commit election forgery etc. If you try to illegally overturn the results of an election, you deserve to face the consequences. www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/08/11/michigan-civil-war-gop-fundraiser/Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock (R) warned supporters at a recent fundraiser at his home that a “civil war” would break out or that people would get shot if the government continued to target conservatives, according to audio of the event obtained by the Messenger, which first reported the remarks.
Maddock, whose wife was one of 16 “fake electors” charged with felony crimes in Michigan last month, told the crowd that it had been a “difficult” time for them recently. The event — billed as the “Free The 16 Electors Poolside Party!” — was held at the Maddocks’ home to raise legal defense funds for the fake electors, according to a copy of the invitation.
“If the government continues to weaponize these departments against conservatives, and the citizens and the taxpayers, what’s going to happen to this country? Does anyone have any idea, if this doesn’t stop?” Maddock is heard asking in the recording.
His question prompted several responses from the audience, each one waved off by Maddock as not the answer he had in mind. “Someone’s going to get so pissed off, they’re going to shoot someone,” Maddock continued, according to the recording. “Or we’re going have a civil war or some sort of revolution. That’s where this is going. And when that happens, we’re going to get squashed.”
Maddock’s rhetoric, however, was especially inflammatory. His wife, Meshawn Maddock, was one of 16 Republicans who was charged with forgery and other felonies last month by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, the first and so far only criminal prosecution against Trump electors. At the fundraiser, Matt Maddock compared prosecuting Trump electors to Nazis’ attempts to subdue Jewish people before leading them into gas chambers during the Holocaust.
“They want to make damn sure that anyone who questions the election or disputes the election in 2024 is threatened by what they’re doing to our electors and other people throughout this nation — that you will not say anything,” Matt Maddock told the crowd. “You are going to shut the eff up and you are going to walk into that gas chamber. That’s what they want, because that’s what’s coming for us.”

No problem with questioning the election results!! However over 60 court cases said no issues of merit were raised. Time to accept the results and move on.
Gore did it, Hillary did it...

Exactly it’s ok to question and even ask for a recount but not for elections to be overturned because you didn’t like the results especially when there has been no evidence of fraud. A few cases here and there on both sides but nothing to suggest enough to change the outcome. It’s time for the lies to stop. This is hurting the country.

Shame on them.. VUMC has come under fire for waiting months before telling patients in June that their medical information was shared late last year, acting only after the existence of the requests emerged as evidence in another court case. The news sparked alarm for many families living in the ruby red state where GOP lawmakers have sought to ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth and limit LGBTQ rights. The patients suing over the release of their information say VUMC should have removed personally identifying information before turning over the records because the hospital was aware of Tennessee authorities’ hostile attitude toward the rights of transgender people. Many of the patients who had their private medical information shared with Skrmetti’s office are state workers, or their adult children or spouses; others are on TennCare, the state’s Medicaid plan; and some were not even patients at VUMC’s clinic that provides transgender care. apnews.com/article/tennessee-transgender-vanderbilt-e524f08f8324c46b106cbe3a054724ff?utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter
