It is the worst I’ve ever received too. I’ve had some bent paper corners before when ordering 12x12 paper, but nothing like this.

I would be angry about that too. I wonder why they didn't use a box?

USPS staff told me today that Ground Advantage comes with $100 insurance protection now so if C&9th doesn’t fix this the USPS might directly. They clearly know they messed up so it shouldn’t be too hard. But hopefully C&9th deal with it themselves.

Thats awful. I hope they fix it. They should package them a little better. Maybe ship the paper between cardboard pieces so its not bending when it goes thru the machine.

I agree, it should have been shipped in a box.
However, the damage that occasionally occurs isn’t always due to getting caught in the machine sorter. I had one small package (from a different company) get lost for about 6 weeks. It did finally arrive, but the outside of the package had tire tread marks on it. It was in a small, hard, plastic case, which had protected the contents, though. The contents were fine, although the case was cracked. By the time I got it, the supplier had already replaced the missing item.

WOW! Hope you get it resolved quickly. I wonder if C&9 would take care of it without the shipping protection?

That I don’t know. I usually remove it from my cart because I’ve never had an issue. I just happily missed removing it from this order. I emailed them late yesterday, waiting on a response.

I placed an order with them Monday and declined that. Upon seeing those photos, I looked at their website. They claim no responsibility for damage by USPS once it leaves their hands. But it seems really odd to me that they are selling shipping insurance if it's included with the USPS shipping cost.

They emailed me back and I have to email another company to file my claim. I’m not sure why they don’t just forward my info to them. My order was with C&9, I paid them for the insurance, they should take care of me.

They absolutely should take care of this. That’s not good customer service. I’ve never ordered anything from them and probably won’t now.

My order was with C&9, I paid them for the insurance, they should take care of me. So it’s a third party that provides the shipping protection. Too bad they don’t make that clear on their website. I had to put something in a cart in order to find out what it was all about and that was only after enlarging my screen to see the tiny icon at the bottom of the page.

I heard back from the other company. The paper of course is out of stock. It is as from the Summer Camp. The envelopes were only needed for the cards I wanted to make with the paper. I asked them to just refund the whole thing.
I did reply back to C&9 asking why they didn’t just forward the claim to Corso (the other company). No response yet.

And if directing customers to buy insurance from this other company means to C&9th that they can toss products into any old thing to save their money on packing/shipping, well that seems kind of like a dirty protection racket to me....

Sounds like travel insurance where the tour company sells it to you, but then you have to deal with the insurance company, not the tour company.
I know they are a relatively small company, but this makes me want to not buy directly from them. I had a $80 package lost from Spellbinders and they gave me a credit, no problem.

I noticed when I placed an MFT order yesterday they also had the added cost for shipping protection. I didn’t see how to remove it though. They always ship to me via FrdEx (I chose the option that lets them pick between UPS and FedEx).

I noticed when I placed an MFT order yesterday they also had the added cost for shipping protection. I didn’t see how to remove it though. They always ship to me via FrdEx (I chose the option that lets them pick between UPS and FedEx). There is a toggle on the checkout page right under where you put your phone number that you can click to turn it off. I handle some shipping related things for work, so I can help clarify a little bit here, though I'm not an expert! As far as 3rd party insurance goes, it's not all bad. If you rely on USPS for default insurance, it may not be enough coverage, and you have to wait while they do an investigation, which can take well over a month, they don't approve a lot of claims, and it doesn't cover a lot--like loss due to theft, or if the package is mistakenly marked delivered when it wasn't, etc. In theory, your carrier tags the package delivered on your porch, and the gps location confirms delivery for the post office. Sometimes they make make mistakes or get lazy and things don't get tagged right, and you can get denied because of it. We've probably all had packages that say 'delivered' on our tracking that show up 3 days later, and if they don't show up, you don't get reimbursed. FedEx and UPS insurance aren't necessarily better, and if they deny your claim, there is no recourse or regulation to require them to provide justification/proof for the decision. They can deny "because we said so". So if they misdeliver, they have the gps where the driver checked the package as delivered and may know it was their error, but they aren't obligated to provide you with that gps, so they can literally say "our driver said he delivered to the right address, so that's that, denied". The only time you have proof is if you pay for signature delivery and it's not your (or a household member's) signature. 3rd party insurers generally cover more instances and can handle things more quickly because all they do is insurance. As an example, Route is a common 3rd party insurer for a lot of stores, and they're really excellent. They cover damage, theft and misdelivery, and they handle their claims quickly. Once you file the claim, they generally resolve it within 1-2 weeks by either refunding or replacing your items, and their approval rate for claims is good. A lot of stores use Route because it gives you a faster resolution and therefore better customer service experience. When you buy the insurance, there should be a link to the coverage you're buying somewhere on the website, usually in their shipping FAQs, along with a link for how to file a claim, and that will tell you it's 3rd party. Sometimes you get an email after your purchase from the insurance with the details, but you should be able to review the coverage before you buy it. You don't actually pay the store for the insurance--they collect the premium during checkout, but it's paid to the insurer. The reason they have to have you contact the insurance company is because that's who your policy is with. It's like if you buy an extended warranty on a printer or computer or whatever, like Asurion or SquareTrade. If your device dies 2 years in, you don't go back to Amazon or the store you bought it, you contact your Asurion (your policy holder), and they take care of it. Some places use Navidium or similar programs that are a little different. They look like 3rd party insurance, but they're actually a service that lets the store collect the insurance fees and handle the claims themselves. Aka--you actually pay the store the insurance premium, not an insurance company, and the store handles your claim. As long as the store is invested in happy customers and has adequate staff for customer service, it can work out. I know that's not a perfect explanation, but I hope it helps a little!

First, I want to say, Holy Mackerel! That is some flimsy packaging there. It looks like it's been through a few battlefields. I'd be angry too.
I am a beader, and I subscribe to a monthly kit (my only monthly subscription). I am automatically charged for Navidium insurance. Even with this insurance, the owner packages my kit in a sturdy box with padding and tissue paper around everything. It is very secure, and that box arrives without so much as a dented corner. Having insurance doesn't excuse the company from doing their due diligence when it comes to packaging and shipping.
I hope they make things right for you without expecting you to go out of your way to have the problem resolved.

The fact that the company even has the insurance makes me think that there are multiple orders that showed up a mess. If I want any of their items I’ll remember to order them from another site.
Hope this goes smoothly for you.

This is just not OK.
I totally believe USPS damaging the package in transit but they should have packed it the right way and the package should have been more sturdy to begin with. And I completely agree that C9 should take care of it for you. You are a paying customer. You gave your money to C9 and they should be wiling to fix it for you vs directing you some place else. You paid money to C9 and not to third party. It is as simple as that.
I love their stuff but this will make me think twice before buying from them.

The fact that the company even has the insurance makes me think that there are multiple orders that showed up a mess. If I want any of their items I’ll remember to order them from another site. Hope this goes smoothly for you. I think they probably offer insurance because of the rise of porch piracy. You can claim against the post office for damage but unfortunately once the package is dropped off the shipping companies say it's not their problem and the business owner/seller usually has to eat the cost if someone steals the package. I had a package get stolen when selling an item on eBay - the post office said they left the item on the porch but the recipient said they never got it. I got all the $#*! from the buyer who had it shipped as a surprise gift to her SIL and offended her by questioning whether she was telling the truth. I ended up refunding all the money she paid and the shipping cost and everyone ended up unhappy (including the thief who probably didn't want a vintage Sanrio kids jewelry box!) Having insurance doesn't excuse inadequate packaging. I think I underestimate how rough and automated the mail handling process is. Hopefully C&9th (who I have only had good experience with) learns something from seeing these pictures.

Mine is ok. Thank goodness, since I didn't pay for the insurance. Stamps, dies, notecard envelopes, but it was packed in cardboard mailer, not a bag. Which doesn't make cmpeter feel any better, I'm sure. Sorry about that.

Thanks moraie I have some experience with shipping (good, bad and ugly) and always appreciate learning more about how it all works. I never know if I'm just wasting money paying USPS insurance for fragile things I sell online. I have had good luck with the post office using their GPS to figure out which house they accidentally left my package at but some bad experiences too, and sometimes it's just been easier to cut my losses.

I think the photos in the OP are a cardboard mailer! or rather WERE... before the USPS had to tape it up where it got shredded in the machines.
