I'm glad I read this as normally I would have just put in cash. The rise in thefts hadn't occurred to me. From now on it will be a cheque
From experience at my bank though - not all new couples have a joint bank account. We always advise that cheques be made payable to Mr OR Mrs, not AND. (My bank is really picky on names on cheques vs the names on the accounts)

My wedding gift of choice is a full case of toilet paper, LOL. It lasts two people forever and they can then spend their own money on something more fun.
If I absolutely had to give a monetary gift, it would either be (1) cash, (2) check written to BrideName OR GroomName, or (3) a gift card to a store they’re registered at. I would not give a Visa GC because they charge a fee to buy it and have stupid monthly fees if they’re not all used at once. They’re the biggest PITA to use especially once they have a weird oddball small balance remaining. Checks are a hassle too if they are leaving right away for their honeymoon and don’t have time to go to the bank before they leave, plus it’s not ever fully liquid right away.

We either put cash in the card or ask for bank details and deposit straight into an account. Most weddings we've been to lately have a secure box to slip envelopes into. Writing cheques is almost unheard of around here, I haven't had a cheque book for thirty years.

I can't believe where there's a wedding venue that would steal the cash? Guess that's not a place you would want to host the wedding. Are these responses experiences that happened recently or something from a while ago? Sounds unrealistic.

Short story here, my granddaughter was married about a year ago. We knew some "guests" were sketchy. The wedding was in a country club, at dinner, I was asked to watch the gift table with the card box (our table was the closest). Sure enough, after "guests" were caught stealing from the bar tip jar, the mother of the bride took the box and gifts to her car with the thieves following her. The gifts were safe then.

We don't have Venmo in Canada. We do use Interac e-tranfer, and as much as I know it's silly, I would feel weird using it for a wedding gift. And since it costs me money to get cheques, I use cash.
That said - gift off registry for shower; money for wedding.
