Back in May I went to an event called Pub Choir. I'll give brief explanation as to what it is. First, from Wikipedia: "Pub Choir is a musical act founded in Brisbane, Australia, directed by Astrid Jorgensen. At each Pub Choir event Jorgensen arranges a popular song and teaches it to the audience in three-part harmony, concluding with a performance which is filmed and shared on social media." And a little bit more detail from me: The venue is divided up into three sections. One section for high pitched voices, one section for medium women's voices, and the third is for men or deep women's voices. You don't actually have to move to any particular section, you can stay with your friends even if one of you is high and the other is low. There is a slideshow up on a big screen on the stage, and it is colour coded to make it easier for each of the three groups to follow along. Astrid teaches each group one part of the song at a time, then all three groups run through it together, then we move onto the next verse / line of the song. At the end, we all sing along together, each group singing their part. It gets recored and shared to Facebook and Instagram. The song that we did when I went is 'You Learn' by Alanis Morrisette. The rest of the girls I went with all loved Alanis Morrisette. I am not a fan, and I must admit that when I found out what song we were going to do (the day before), I was pretty disappointed. Astrid said on the night that it's about more than just the song. And she was 100% right! I absolutely LOVED it, and I can't wait to do it again next time it's held in Melbourne. Here is the Facebook link to the video of the night I did it: You Learn If you search Pub Choir on Facebook or Instagram, you can see other performances. Astrid is now taking Pub Choir to the UK and the US. If you get a chance to go, I say DO IT! It is so much fun. And you don't even have to be able to sing! Here are the dates, if anyone is interested:

No one wants me to sing, most particularly after partaking at a pub. Lol

We're already sold out here in Portland (and Seattle, which is the next closest city). ☹️

That sounds like a great idea! There are several 'non serious' choir type things around and I've never heard anyone say they didn't enjoy it. We have a 'Tuneless Choir' in my town to encourage anyone to sing regardless of how they sound Glad you enjoyed it despite the song choice! I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open for more about it

What fun - I would love to do something like that; so sad NZ isn’t among the target countries!
I love to sing - each week I take one of the women in the retirement village where we live, to a singing group organised by Dementia Auckland (she has quite severe dementia, but still enjoys singing). I am really quite disappointed if she can’t go, and I do wonder about still going myself, without her, just so I can sing. Not quite that brave though; it would be a bit weird!

You guys are so lucky to have things like the Tuneless Choir!

I’m very envious. I’ve been watching Pub Choir since the start and I love it so much. I think it would be incredible to be there live. Some of the couch choir ones they did in lockdown were amazing too.

I would absolutely love this! Sounds like a lot of fun!
I am always singing along (not a great singer, but no one covers their ears) to whatever is playing and a small regret I have is not joining choir or theatre in high school where I might have gotten some training.
If this opportunity came close I would jump on it!

A very similar group tours the US and Canada called "Choir!Choir!Choir!" They have great videos and have had amazing collaborations.
I went a few years ago when they came to the Playhouse in my town and it was really, really fun!

I sang in choirs for years, and the feeling you get when you hear those harmonies all around you, and knowing that you’re part of it, is pretty damn wonderful! This sounds like great fun - too bad Edinburgh is sold out.

This sounds like great fun - too bad Edinburgh is sold out. I'm annoyed with myself. On the night I went, Astrid mentioned the UK and US tour, and asked people to share it on their socials so their UK/US friends could see. I completely forgot to do it at the time.

AussieMeg ....thank you for sharing this---I LOVE it !! Were you able to find you and/or your friends in the crowd? I want to watch it again to see if I can spot you. I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open for more about it They're touring all over England this month (see the poster in the OP). A very similar group tours the US and Canada called "Choir!Choir!Choir!" They have great videos and have had amazing collaborations. I LOVE how she arranged this song, incorporating a little Christmas in between the regular lyrics. Also, the full orchestra made it even better!

We sang a few songs but the main one was Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and it was so amazing and fun. Would go again in a heartbeat. They do such a good job engaging with the audience - you're surprised they can see everyone and interact (I was wearing hot pink pants and Daveed - one of the leaders - could see me in the audience grimacing every time I made a mistake and he called out "don't worry, pink pants, it's about having fun, not being perfect!")

That does sound like fun! I’m a horrible singer but love to do it. Unfortunately, it’s not coming anywhere close, but I will keep an eye out for it in the future though.
What’s the “Pub” part about though? It looks like they do this in theaters?
