I did it! I finished my first Hooked on Sunshine afghan! Thanks @patter & jeremysgirl for getting me “hooked” lol - or maybe I should be cursing you both because I can’t stay off the yarn sites! Here she is in all her glory - I know there is the odd mistake - as I rounded the corners and started the last row of picot, I came upon a V-stitch in the row below that only had one dc, so I fudged it lol - Lion brand mandala yarn - colourway is Centaur: Beautiful! And wow, you did that fast!

I tried again. I put a public post on facebook and I hope that works. I suspect the fabric is old. I started a project with a friend last year and she provided this fabric but it didn't have a salvage. I know it's long shot. Emelle The Facebook link worked for me. I was able to get it into PostImages so I can share it here as not everyone is willing to click on links. Hopefully someone has some leads for you. I don't recognize the fabric and have almost no yellow in my stash so unfortunately can't help out.

If not…I’ll do what quilters have done for many many years and find another yellow that will work just as well. Emelle

I've been painting. Finally I decided a few months ago to paint in a sketchbook. On Sunday I painted the last page so I've created a video flip through on my YouTube channel. Here it is: First Watercolor Sketchbook

cakediva That is gorgeous. So many talented crocheters. I crocheted all through my teens and into my 20's but in my 30's my hand said Enough! So I had to find other crafts.

I'm going to share something super controversial. I am thinking of taking a class on hand quilting. I am thinking I may do that with some of my beginner projects. I don't know what the siren call to hand quilting is for me. Maybe it's because I find the crochet blankets relaxing and I want to bring that over to my quilting too. Maybe I'm just a nut that likes creative marathons. Haha!

I'm not sure you really need a class though. It is super easy. The main thing is practice to get your stitches smaller and more even.

It use to take me forever though - my youngest waited almost five years for her quilt. I did find it relaxing but with younger kids around, it was hard to have it set up all the time. You probably have space for it to stay up so that will definitely make it easier to just do a few stitches whenever the mood hits. I bought a used Mega quilter and I am so much happier with that. I can only do small pantos and designs since the throat of the machine is just 9" but it doesn't take me five years to finish a quilt anymore.

I'm going to share something super controversial. I am thinking of taking a class on hand quilting.! Do it! It’s been a long time since I sewed anything meaningful but hand sewing, imho, allows you to become acquainted with the fabric, to be part of the creation, whereas machine sewing is a means to an end, if that makes any sense! That’s not to denigrate machine sewing, I love that too but hand sewing is a more intimate occupation to me.

Hand quilting is becoming into fashion again. My mom handquilted everything she made. Her stitches were so even and straight. Because they had the room, she used the stretched out frame and needed help turning the boards. I remember some of her friends coming over for a quilting session.

You’ve been busy quiltz! I need to have a better look when I’m not on my phone. I Googled that pretty holly fabric and, as far as I can see, you will find it on Etsy.

That’s not to denigrate machine sewing, I love that too but hand sewing is a more intimate occupation to me. I'll have to disagree with you on this! I'd rather do pretty much anything than do quilting/sewing by hand! With nearly 60 years of experience and a massive fabric collection, I've never had an issue with being acquainted and intimate with any of my fabrics! I wish I enjoyed the process of hand quilting, because I think they are amazing. My grandmother made hundreds of quilts over her lifetime (no exaggeration!) completely by hand. She hand pieced and hand quilted. My collection of her quilts is over 40. My sisters and cousins probably have nearly as many. No one even has a clue as to how many she made and gave away over her lifetime. She was very generous with them. When I was in college she taught me how to piece and quilt by hand. It took me nearly a year to complete 16" square pillow. Didn't even attempt to quilt again for another 30 years - once I discovered the newfangled way of making them on the machine and sending them out to a longarmer! I've always said she is probably rolling over in her grave! ETA: This photo shows just some of her quilts that I have. She also did all the crochet pieces you see tucked in the stack. The stuffed rabbit was made by my mother for DD when she was little.

quiltz - Wow! So many quilt tops and everyone of them is gorgeous! Are they all earmarked for specific people, or do you just make what you love and keep them on hand for future gifts? Also, I'd love to know if that last quilt (red borders/trucks) is a pattern?

Also, I'd love to know if that last quilt (red borders/trucks) is a pattern? Actually most, if not all of these quilts will be going to a charity of some sort. My {little, tiny} family do not want any more quilts, so I make them to keep my brain sharp. My guild is very involved with charity quilts going to FACS, Kristen French Foundation, local women's shelter and YWCA shelter. I love making fun quilts for kids/teens as their quilt will be their quilt for life. A few will be auctioned off at the Mennonite Relief Sale in New Hamburg next May. The truck quilt is so easy. The middle is a panel and then the roads get added. It was a kit from the early 2000's. I will send you the pattern as I won't be making this again. The pattern and fabric are out-of-print.
