I’m 49 and getting Botox for the first time tomorrow. I’m excited and nervous. Any tips? The injector I chose is fantastic. I have been following her for 2 years and she does great work. She works under the best plastic surgeon in town and has done extensive training. How long do your results last?

I have only had Dysport and my results have lasted 6 months. The last time I had it done was an epic failure and I had to re-evaluate my life’s choices again. Good luck. I loved mine!!!

Don’t exercise for 24 hours. I metabolize it quickly. Mine is wearing off by six weeks. (I get it for medical reasons.)

No real tips to offer:) It takes a couple days to kick in and for me lasts 3-6 months. I use it on my forehead and crows feet and it's amazing to watch the crinkles just disappear!

It lasts 3 months. They tell you not to put your head down for a while after the injections, and hopefully they will put some numbing cream on your face and let it sit for 10 minutes or so before the injections. It takes a week or so to take effect, as I recall. What parts are you getting done?
I used to get botox when I was younger, but I don't have the patience to go every 3 months anymore so I just get filler in a few spots every year or two. Hope you love it!!

I have a co-worker who gets it done for medical reasons and she's been very pleased with how it's worked out.

She didn’t give me anything to do/not to do before my appt so I looked online. Lots of differing information. Some say no alcohol for 24 hours prior while some say none for 3 days. Some say not to wear makeup for 24 hours afterward and some say none for 4-6 hours. I want to get the max results since she isn’t cheap.

It feels like cracking glass or some weird sensation when its being injected... but its normal... nobody warned me and i was wtf is that... I have not had that sensation, but it hurts like a mofo. I get botox for migraines in my forehead, scalp, and shoulders and it is SO PAINFUL. I don't recall how many units, but it is 20+ sticks. I'm also a bleeder, so it looks like I walked face first into a wasp nest when I'm done. I don't schedule anything else on Botox days.

Mine used to last at least 6 months…but now I’m almost 50 and it only lasted 2-3 months.
It will take a few days to start seeing a difference. And a few weeks to see the full effect.
My only tip is to not do too little. If you do too little, you will barely notice a difference and you will be disappointed.
I just went to my dermatologist today - but we did laser genesis. Next month I will do Botox…

Love love love my botox. I get it for my 11's and a bit of an eyelid lift. I agree with asking for numbing cream. I never do anything special before, but am careful about not rubbing the areas for the next couple days. I start to see the affect about 2 days after and the full affect 7-10 days after. I go every three months.

I don't find it particularly painful and don't get any unusual sensations as described above. I wouldn't bother with any numbing cream for me personally, but I do have a pretty high pain tolerance.
I skip makeup for the rest of the day but other than that I don't do anything special.

The no makeup rule is because you shouldn’t rub or scrub the injected areas until the Botox “settles in.” If you do rub or scrub the area, the Botox can migrate to areas where you may not want it and give you undesirable results. Also avoid blood thinners, advil, aspirin, aleve, and other meds that can make you bleed and / or bruise at the injection sites. My injector tells me to avoid those meds for a week prior to my treatment. Botox lasts about 3-4 months for me. The last couple of times, my injector used Jeuveau and it lasted 5-6 months. I find the injections from either medication cause minimal pain..

I mainly get it for my migraines every three months, plus it gives me an awesome brow lift that I love!! I do look a little like Spock for about a week afterwards, but it's worth it for the results. I'm really fair and bruise easily, so I make sure I have an ice pack to help keep it to a minimum.

I am wary. I had it in my eye muscle for double vision and ended up with a wink until the botex wore off, which was several months. Worried if I have it for cosmetic reasons I will end up with problems again.

I used to work for the company that makes Botox. It will take a few days to be effective and last about 3 months. It lasts longer for some people. It’s expensive for the amount of improvement you get. But it does provide some good subtle improvements. I was told don’t exercise rest of day, but that’s about it. It is skill to properly inject for good results, so it is good you’ve chosen someone experienced. The only drawback is it so expensive for a small improvement for a short amount of time.

I get it for migraines - forehead, all over my head, back of neck and shoulders. I don't get any numbing cream; the sticks aren't pleasant, but they certainly aren't unbearable. I've also never experienced the crackling sensation described below. I had to ask my doctor not to place the injections too low on my forehead because when that happened once, it made me look mad for almost three months. Now she stays within 1/2-1 inch of my hairline and I don't have that problem.

I just scheduled my first injection with a local plastic surgeon and I am nervous. I like to be fully prepared before I go in, lol, so I am researching everything! How many units did you ask for? I am going to trust my injector, but I have no idea what others are doing. So give me all the details you wished you knew when you went! Please!

They should inject the right amount based on what you are going for. Mine never hurts nor do I get a cracked glass effect. No alcohol or blood thinning agents to avoid bruising at the injection site. In 2 weeks if you expected a different result. Go back for more. Your dr should want you to do that. Also no electrocurrent face treatments. It makes the effect wear off.

I’ve never asked for a specific amount…tell her the areas that bother me and she does her thing.
I do recommend the numbing cream. I’ve never had the cracked glass feeling.
They will tell you to scrunch and squint before they start working on an area. They are very tiny drops and it will go quickly.
You might see a pinprick of blood at some of the injection spots and possibly a small bruise.

The doctor should have a conversation first to explain what they will do and ask for your input.
I have never needed numbing cream for Botox, and I used to get it quite often for migraines. I only need numbing cream for filler.

But it will be a good long time before I get to get "topped off" bc my dog is undergoing chemo and my face takes a back seat to that! Everyone can see my every emotion. Maybe my coworkers will take up a collection for Botox for me to fix my RBF 😭🤣

I agree that they will suggest an amount - but I would ask how much you are getting just so you know. My feeling is they will go conservative (20-30 units) since it’s your first time - which means you might not see a big difference. (I get a lot more than that haha)

I have never had numbing cream or a weird feeling from it. I will say that I was expecting to look refreshed from it and I really don’t. This is because I don’t really have any wrinkles in my forehead, crows feet or the 11 lines. So mine is more of a preventative to those happening. My friends that had those issues were super happy with their results.
