I had this posted at the old board in case I lose the price of paper it is written on. Figured I'd better post it again!
Iris' Spice Cake
3C sugar 4-1/2 C water 20 oz. box of raisins* 1C shortening 2tsp clove 2tsp cinnamon 1tsp nutmeg 1tsp salt
Mix in pot on stove and boil for 5 minutes. Let cool.
Add: 2tsp baking soda 2tbsp water 4-1/2 C flour 1-2C nuts**
Pour into 3 loaf pans and bake at 300-325° for one hour.***
*I use most of the raisins ** I use 2 cups of walnuts. ***I do 325° for an hour.

This looks delicious. Do you glaze or frost it? Cream Cheese frosting is my favorite and I can imagine it on these loaves. Thank you for posting it.

I've never added anything to it. Iris would probably roll over in her grave. Lol
