Just give up on a page?
I’m so frustrated. I have a 4x6 that I want to tell a story about, and want it kinda special. I picked out a sketch and went to town. Kinda screwed up a part, but just went with it and one thing led to another, and now I’m close to 2 HOURS IN….and I now hate it. 😣 It is really similar to the sketch, but comparatively, it just looks so out of proportion now, I don’t like it. I’ll keep the stupid page and try to salvage it but I’m just so over this sketch I want to pick something else for this photo and story. Buuuuut I’m now out of scrapping time for the day. Uggghhhhhh

Yes. I have done pages that I wasn't happy with. I dismantle the page and start over with another idea or different products. If I get really frustrated with it, I set it aside for awhile. I will work on something else, then come back to it.... a few days or weeks later.

Yes, definitely. Sometimes I can change out the background paper or whatever is bothering me the most and get it to work, and sometimes I just tear it completely apart and start over with new supplies/new direction.
I hope you get your page to work.

I’m just going to save the background paper for something else and start over for this photo and story. Maybe if I don’t keep looking at the sketch, it won’t bother me as much😝

I have a layout that has been on my desk for a few weeks. If I can't figure it out, I just set it aside and do something else.

I’m just going to save the background paper for something else and start over for this photo and story. Maybe if I don’t keep looking at the sketch, it won’t bother me as much😝 I like to do that with sketches sometimes. If I know I have enough time to complete a page from start to finish in one sitting, I will study the sketch and pull supplies, then put the sketch away. It is fun to try and do it from memory, then compare results at the end. Usually, if I don't like a layout, I will let it sit out overnight and revisit it in the morning. Sometimes I like it more, sometimes I like it less, sometimes I figure out what is missing to make it work. But yes, I will absolutely rip apart layouts that I don't like and redo them. Sometimes I just want to destroy things, Godzilla style, even in my crafting. I will save what I can then just move on.

justcindy, I think we've all had l/o-s that we've struggled with. I'll usually just put it aside and come back to it later. Sometimes so later that I'll run across it and am surprised. It sounds like your story will be the most important part of your l/o so maybe start out with writing down your story and maybe that will help with inspiration. And maybe try a different sketch?

"Special" pages are the hardest. My mind gets stuck on making everything perfect instead of just going with the flow. And yes, justcindy, that can be really frustrating. I usually stop. Set that page aside. Then look at it later with a fresher viewpoint. If you set this page aside now, you may look at it the next time you have the opportunity to scrap and it won't look so disappointing. Maybe all it will need is a tiny detail added to pull everything together, or a couple of things removed or replaced.

I agree grammadee , special pages are the hardest, we want everything perfect! hoopsfn Getting the journaling completed first is a great idea, I’m going to try that! Good luck justcindy, I hope a fresh start is just what you need. I will say, if I’m inspired by something I have to be really careful not to compare my page with it because I can be disappointed. Which is weird because if it wasn’t, if it’s all “fresh” I’d probably be thrilled with it.

I absolutely do that. In one case I had to reprint the photos, too, because I had cut them into circles, which I deeply regret.

Oh yes. The last page I tried to do. I went out of my comfort zone following inspiration and a format from Shimelle. It was going good until it wasn't. I didn't end up liking it and decided I did not like Shimelle's page either in the end. It is sitting there now, unfinished. Maybe I might try to finish. Or maybe not.

Yes, but I call it done. Sometimes, I think I'll go back and redo the whole thing. It's never happened.

i've given up on entire projects! lol
the most valuable thing i've learned from crafting is it's ok to walk away from a project that's not working out. stop and just move on to another project/page that is more fun.

Thank you all ( get real, I’m from Texas!)
Thanks, Y’all, for all the commiseration! I kept the background page but started over with the photo and new supplies, and ironically, used a Shimelle sketch! 😂 I also used another piece of advice given here and once I had the bare bones of it, put the sketch out of site and made it my own.
Aaaand I now love it!
I didn’t follow the advice of journaling first this time, but I’m definitely going to use that strategy soon.
I might even try to learn how to post a photo to show y’all how it ended up! Not perfect, but was able to use all the elements that go with the story, and it’s DONE!
