I’d say about 80% of the time mine wears Red Wing steel toed black leather work shoes that we’ve added elastic laces to which makes them easy on and off. The other 20% of the time he wears Crocs (moss green camo, Minion yellow or his new ones which are rainbow tie dye). Wearing tennis shoes on hard tile floors for ten years of retail gave him plantar fasciitis so now I doubt he even owns a pair of tennis shoes anymore, and we donated his last pair of dress shoes because he never wore them.
He could be having this same conversation about me though. After my two foot surgeries the only shoes I can really be comfortable in are Rocket Dog Jazzins, of which I own probably at least a half dozen pairs. I buy them when they have a BOGO deal like last week so they’re half price and then I wear them until they fall apart. I have a pair of solid black ones that are a little less obnoxious that I wear if I’m more dressed up, but most of them are wild patterns or obnoxious bright colors. I get a lot of compliments on them! I just bought a new pair of all black ones because the old ones are almost ready for the trash, and a pair of plain white canvas high tops that I plan to either hand paint or customize with HTV.

Nice tennis shoes almost exclusively, not dressy ones but those for running. He doesn’t let them get in bad condition before replacing them because he likes his gear and also because that means they’re not fit for the support he needs for working out. When COVID hit he started wearing CROCS to work (skilled nursing facility) because they were easy to clean and disinfect, he had bright lime green but then toned it down with some tie dyed. So don’t feel too bad about the ratty Converse But if we’re going out someplace nice and feel like dressing up a bit, and also always for a funeral, he’ll happily add a pair of dress shoes and matching belt if I mention it. Im not sure if he still had them but he also has/had a pair of brown soft leather boots that look nice. Hot for Texas summers though. eta: crazy4scraps our husbands own the same CROCS; If it makes you feel any better, I promise they look even worse in a size 15, like clown shoes! One benefit of him being on crutches? Switched back to tennis shoes for work.

DH has gargantuan size 13 EEEE feet. He pretty much wears whatever he can find that fits, which is docksiders or New Balance sneakers. He does have some lace-up dress shoes and some steel toe boots for touring aluminum refineries.

He is forbidden to wear them when we go out to a restaurant or bar. Thanks all, for all the suggestions. I’m going to have to hound him to buy some new shoes. Getting him to shop for anything is like pulling teeth.

Whatever sneakers Costco is selling. Or in the summer, his Chacos.
He does own a nice pair of shoes for suits, a pair of dark loafers, and hiking boots. However, with the way things are now his black sneakers work in the situations where 20 years ago one of the first two options would have been expected.

He has a couple of pairs of Cole Haan oxfords. I have some, too, and they're super comfy. I made the unfortunate mistake of getting him some Hoka recovery slides for around the house, and after he wore them out twice to run errands I had to threaten to take them away. He didn't even want them because they're so ugly, but our wood floors are hard on old feet, so I talked him into trying them.

I'm going to win the prize on this one for the worst! DH started having plantar fasciitis last year. The man has had 4 joint replacements - 4 of the 8 surgeries he has had in the last 8 years and yet his foot has become the thing he can not seem to deal with. He's had a recurrence lately and it is stopping him from doing almost anything. We just got back from vacation and I could barely get him out of the condo. Now, I've dealt with PF for 15 years so I sympathize to a point but I don't think I ever took on this much (at least I hope I didn't.) Mine started acting up right before our trip but I still walked on the beach, stretched, iced and then went biking. I didn't do as much as I wanted but I didn't sit around all week.
Anyway, he found these recovery sandals on Amazon. They are slides and he wears them everywhere! Summer, winter, mostly without socks but if it is cold, he wears white socks (with black sandals). Recently Amazon had a sale and he has ordered bright orange sandals and a blue and white mottled color. They haven't arrived yet but he says he is only going to wear those at home.
If he has to wear closed shoes, he has some black Brooks tennis shoes which look okay. The only time he has worn any other shoes was to a funeral a couple of months ago.

Boat shoes, he must have 30 pairs. And very occasionally for business travel when he has to meet actual people dress shoes.
He owns no other shoes. None.

My husband loves Allbirds. They don’t do anything for me, but they make him happy, so I’m all for them on him.

Switched back to tennis shoes for work. LOL they don’t look much better in size 13. Just sayin’. 🤣 I actually find it quite funny that that’s what he picked. I think he only bought these newest ones because they were super cheap, LOL. And partly because the 78 year old neighbor (who was wearing rainbow tie dye Crocs herself at the time) said she couldn’t picture him wearing them!

DH has several pairs of boat shoes, one of them a light tan that looks almost white. We call them his, "Nurse Jackies" because they look like what a nurse might wear.

My Dh who’s 53, typically wears Heydudes most of the time. He has some Sanuks too. In the winter he wears chukka boots or his cowboy boots. Just depends on where we are going. He also has some casual lace up shoes for a little more dressy look.

My 55 year old dh wears his brown leather Romeo’s almost everywhere outside of work in the winter/fall. In the spring/summer he wears his black sneakers if we go out. At work he wears brown leather- lace up boots with his good feet arch supports. He wears flip flops around the yard or if we go to the lake.

Depending on how casual the evening - but in the summer it will be deck shoes or brown loafers. In the winter time he'll wear "dress" boots.

My DH has ONE pair. The Sketchers slide on loafer type. When they wear out, he replaces them with the exact same shoe (or similar if he can't find them).. He wears nothing else. YAWN.. At least he isn't wearing Crocs.. I despise them unless they are worn only at home.. lol

Keen fisherman sandals, size 15. All year round, in Wisconsin. Without socks. It’s the only thing he will wear, and he only has one pair.
If we have a wedding or funeral, he has one pair of dress shoes.

Mine has more shoes than me I think. Ok, maybe not but very close.
He has Crocs for around the house and sometimes wears them on errands.
He has On Cloud tennis shoes for exercising or vacations with lots of walking, errands. Very casual restaurants
He has some old leather boat shoes for casual events and vacation.
For dressy events he has a couple of men's dress shoes black and brown leather.
He's a general contractor and even though he mostly does the business end of things now, not much physical work, he has a ton of work boots. He doesn't wear them often anymore, but occasionally to job sites.
And surely a few others that I can't recall off hand. I can picture them but can't recall exact brands/styles. Some slip on shoes we call his dad shoes and some Van's. A couple of other random tennis shoes/crocs etc.

He wears tennis shoes 99% of the time,,, and he has about 10-12 pair. He has a pair or two of brown loafers that he can wear for a slightly dressy occasion, or a pair of black dress shoes to wear with a suit.

Thanks all, for all the suggestions. I’m going to have to hound him to buy some new shoes. Getting him to shop for anything is like pulling teeth. Go to Zappos or the brand websites and order several pairs for him to try. Once DH discovered shoe shopping via the internet he has become a bigger shoe collector than I am! He tries them on, picks what he wants, then I ship the rejects back. He's even graduated to buying all his casual wear online!

Glad to see I’m not suffering alone! Oh no, he bought them because he thought they were cool looking. I love my DH and he has many wonderful qualities. While I love the way he dresses much of the time, athletic and cool casual, and as a tall man he can really wear his clothes…he got some of his clothing taste from his grandpa, which is, shall I say, questionable.
