I am not a lover of Musicals, but I do love some. I wouldn't shun going to one.
I am a huge fan of Jesus Christ Superstar. I knew the soundtrack before it was performed on stage or made into a movie. I have seen it multiple times on stage.
I love Beauty and the Beast. I would like to see Hamilton and Phantom of the Opera. Love the original West Side Story movie. Love Grease.

years ago i watched Sunset Blvd with Glenn Close and she was excellent in it. that and the Phantom are my top musicals that i've seen. Smoky Joe's Cafe was also good.

I'm not sure how to answer. I do love seeing a musical, but I don't keep up with the latest Broadway/off Broadway productions.

I don’t really care for them in general, but loved the Lion King on broadway, and would love to see Wicked.

I lived in the Manhattan theater district for many years and had access to shows on a regular basis. I kept trying to like regular plays, but so many of them had dark themes, and I found it difficult to enjoy them.
Musicals always made me happy. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for from a show, but I think, in my case I could find enough misery in real life; I didn’t feel I had to pay money for that.

As a musician, I SHOULD love them, and I do love some of them (Six comes to mind) but I don't jump at the chance to go see them. I was thinking along these lines. I LOVE singing in choirs, but I don't love listening to them (in general, there are certainly some exceptions). I'm hit or miss with musicals. I always have fun going to any play/musical, so I enjoy the general experience. And there have been some that I've loved. But there are probably more that just don't catch me the same way they do everyone else. I agree with the people who said it has to generally make some sort of sense that people are singing. I don't think I"ve ever seen any that I truly DISliked, I just didn't love them the way others did. (Looking at you, Wicked.) But I wouldn't rule out seeing something interesting because it's a musical, either. One thing I've learned is that being a little familiar with the music ahead of time helps me a lot. And if it's one on TV, I turn on the closed captioning. Not as aesthetic, but I get a whole lot more out of it!

I wouldn't go out of my way to see one, but I have seen a few. I've seen Forever Plaid a few times, my mom and I went to NYC for my 21st to see Wicked, and then I've also seen Jesus Christ Superstar. I got to see Ted Neely in that one (DH is very jealous of that one). He and I have never gone to a musical together, but went to the GMCW Holiday Show about nine years ago. However, I will probably be looked at strangely here, but I detest Grease. (Back story: when I was 9, my mom, brother, and I were invited along for a vacation with some of her cousins. They had to play the soundtrack the entire.drive.there. The best part of that vacation was leaving [for unrelated reasons]). (DH loves to put it on, even just for a few minutes, when it's on tv.)

I'm a high school technical theatre teacher, so it's kind of in the job description. The first musical I remember seeing was Oklahoma at a local high school when I was like 8 and I was hooked. As DH and I are discussing where to move for our Act 3 (after we are no longer teaching) an active theatre scene nearby is a requirement.
