We all know when you are buying ephemera for scrapbooking we run into the same phrases all of the time- like the much disliked "Best Day Ever".
Some phrases make me really wonder what people are thinking.
For example: I saw an acrylic piece that said "All Boy". What does this even mean? I have no idea how to use that without getting into gender stereotypes. My youngest nephew loves sports, and video games, and his bike. So I guess he is "All Boy"? But my middle nephew hates sports and likes playing and listening to music, watching movies, and reading. He never learned to ride a bike and has no interest in cars. So he isn't "All Boy"? Because he is definitely a boy. I could put "All Boy" on his page, sure, but I'm not sure what I would be saying with that.
"Wild and Free" in zoo lines confuses the heck out of me. Did they just have a brain blip when they included it or what? How did it get through so many people in the design process without someone saying it is the absolute opposite of the theme.
And I absolutely hate "Squeeze the Day". How many citrus themed layouts does anyone make? Because if you aren't including citrus on your page, the pun doesn't make any sense.
Anybody else have a phrase that makes them go "huh"?

"Let's get lost" in travel collections, especially ones that are more mountain/trail/woodsy...nope, I do not want to get lost in the middle of nowhere on my vacation.

I also don’t like “All who wander are not lost.” Maybe they aren’t, but they need to pick up the pace because I’ve got somewhere to be! 🤣 The Mountains are Calling and I Must Go is another. Why does this have to be in every outdoors collection? There are a lot of outdoor adventures NOT in the mountains. And I get altitude sickness, so I’m not really driven to go.

"All Boy" can be the right sentiment when you are scrapping your kid and he's a walking cliché of "boyness". I won't discount it since my options for less girly lines embellishments are so limited.

"All Boy" can be the right sentiment when you are scrapping your kid and he's a walking cliché of "boyness". I won't discount it since my options for less girly lines embellishments are so limited. So true. I raised two boys and one was "All Boy" in how physical he was in nature. I was raised with boys and feel like that meaning really can apply. The phrase that is more concerning to me is boys will be boys (as an excuse for poor behavior). Kind of sounds like that time of the month for girls. Boys/men are really lacking in diversity in scrapbooking compared to females. It just is what it is. My boys as kids never liked pink and I pretty much dislike it too. (I am all over a good hot pink though.) I was secretly delighted when my DIL told me that she hated pink and wouldn't dress her daughter in it either. Ha. I know the kid will probably love it and only want to be dressed in it. I have painted, papered, and otherwise covered sentiments that just don't work for me. The only ones I absolutely refuse to use are the ones that are misspelled. Those hurt. I think when a manufacturer makes a product, they are going for pleasing a majority of the people out there that buy their product. So while scrappers who have been around for a long time see these sayings as redundant, the newer scrapper is happy to find a paper line with a saying that works for their pictures.

I've met a fair amount of bears. They are actually either aloof or just watch you as you wander around. They are looking for berries and snackos that don't involve meat. I can't say this of Alaskan bears though. I think mountain and beach/water lines are pretty similar with their sayings. My local scrapbook store has embellishments for all of the national forests. She also has lots of individual papers of mountains. While I haven't thought about outdoor collections having mountain sayings (because that isn't a problem here) I can imagine it is like trying to find a more feminine line without pink and flowers.

All boy to me comes across as like young kids playing in the dirt. Although every one of my kids played in the dirt and so did I.
I also don’t care for “like a boss” and “good vibes only”. They have their place, but I can’t imagine using them more than one time on a layout or even for card making. And “warm winter wishes”. Do we want a warm winter? Are we trying to stay warm? Nobody says cold summer wishes. lol
I have to admit that I cracked up about the Zoo one. I’ve seen it a million times and never thought about it. But I also haven’t done any zoo pages yet.

I avoid buying embellishments with words because the phrases rarely work for my photos.

I hate "Diva" or how all the girl lines push the "Princess" aspect. I have said this before, I can't use the "Star Student" "I Love School" sentiments because my daughter is not into schoolwork, I need one that says "just here for Recess".

Girl Boss Words spelled incorrectly >>Bee-utiful Split? words (not sure what it's called). Adv ent ure YES to all of these! I also dislike Boss Babe or anything similar. I find them all the opposite of empowering. I like Paige Evans. I think she seems genuinely sweet. I love her enthusiasm for crafting. But her thicker phrases can be bad. Clearly I’m not the target audience. Way too saccharin for me. 1 pack of recent thicker words contains the following gems. Glow. Really?! What type of layout would I make about “Glow”? Radiant. Blossom. Sparkle.

Things I've found in recent stickers/die cut packs that bug me:
Authentic (I know what the word means but in scrapping, what does that even mean?_ You are my fave (I guess I don't have a significate other and it doesn't work for anything else). Good things lie ahead (Do they? Do they really? We're tempting fate her). Love never fails (Well, we all know that isn't true....) Cattitude - (can't stand this one. I hate puns.) Be strong, Be the good, Be kind, etc. (Am I telling the person I'm scrapping this? Why are these so bossy? No! You can't make me.)

Uh-oh...hoping no warm winter wish haters are in the card swap or at least didn't get one of the few I made with that sentiment.
This is not a phrase, but RED mistletoe berries make me crazy! You want red berries, you need holly leaves. You got mistletoe leaves, you need creamy berries. Need to make it more festive? Try some kind of pale gold or glittery! NO RED!

This is not a phrase, but RED mistletoe berries make me crazy! You want red berries, you need holly leaves. You got mistletoe leaves, you need creamy berries. Word. I just assume scrapbook manufacturers have no idea what mistletoe looks like. That has been bugging me for years. I think some people think mistletoe and holly are the same thing. Okay, one that drives me crazy: Rad! I teach teenagers, have for 30 years. No one has used rad in at least 10 years, maybe longer. It is so out-of-date they might have well said "the bee's knees" or "tubular". Ugh. Every single teen line has that word in it. I know scrapbook manufacturers aren't teenagers but have they ever met one? Someone has to have a teenager, don't they? Why do they not ask them what words are in? Words go in and out of style so fast that I know it is difficult to keep up, but for goodness sakes, at least try. I was excited when one line included "yeet". The word didn't last long in teen slang but at least I was able to scrap a teenager page from that era that had the appropriate slang. And for those of you who don't have a teenager, words that are in now are "drip" "fit" "cap" and "rizz" (but you have to be careful with that one.}

I don’t mind the puns. I think they’re fun and whimsical when used in a cute way. I use them more on cards though. There’s only so many general “happy birthday” sentiments I can use before I’m bored. "Let's get lost" in travel collections, especially ones that are more mountain/trail/woodsy...nope, I do not want to get lost in the middle of nowhere on my vacation. This made me laugh 😂 Exactly! We’re a camping family and that is one that makes me think the designer has never set foot on a trail.

I need “squeeze the day!” My daughter and niece took my phone years ago and texted my sister asking for 20 lemons. My sister, thinking I was asking, brought 20 lemons to our barbecue and the kids thought it was so funny.
One of the reasons I bought a Cricut was so I could make my own titles and phrases because so many of them just don’t fit, or they are repetitive (seriously, how many best day ever do you need?!)

I realize this is maybe weird and only a me problem, but I cannot handle shortened/slang words spelled illogically. For example, "Fav." I read that as fah-v. "Fave" is short for favorite. It makes you pronounce the long a. Ditto "vaca." Vah-cah? No, thank you. Vaca is Spanish for cow--not short for vacation. But "vacay" works!
