Entire reason why I don't have a pre lit tree. This kept making me furious, had to eliminate that problem.
Granted now my tree doesn't even get taken apart, it's stored assembled in an extra bedroom and we just move it to living room, (I take everything off except for lights) I'm hoping to move it tonight actually. . At this point I'd be let down if I had to take the lights off and get new however it'd still be better in my opinion than having light problems on a prelit.
They do make that light boss or light doctor thing that you click on a light and it will sometimes restore lights and light sections that aren't working. I've no clue how it works but I used to have one and it did often solve it, but not always.

We finally broke down and got a Balsam Hill prelit tree after several pea recommendations. Not cheap, but I bought it on sale in July to save some money. It's been five years and the thing lights up from top to bottom and looks perfect every year. Previous trees we got maybe two years and then third year, some lights wouldn't work.

The last two years, my pre-lit tree had a couple of strands not working when we plugged it in. I thought this is the year that it gets replaced as it's 10 years old and has gone from Seattle to DC to DFW. We fiddled around with the branches and it came back on! Two years in a row. Now I'm afraid to unplug it!

A couple of years ago our Son in law bought something at Canadian Tire that easily checked the lights. It is called a LED light keeper. This little device is the BOMB! I have the incandescent one, but they now have the LED one also. Make sure you get the one for your type of lights. Lightkeeper Pro

I gave up on big trees 3 years ago now. I'm the one that enjoys the decorating and it was getting to be too much lugging the tree up from the basement every year. So I bought a 4ft pre-lit that fits nicely back in it's box and is so light. I did have a pre-lit prior that as the lights started to go out I would just add more strands on. I do miss having a bigger tree, but don't dread now having to spend all that time fluffing etc. Within an hour or so last Thursday I had everything upstairs and decorated.

I always add at least one strand of lights up the center of the tree. As close to the pole part of the tree. It makes a huge difference. Lights up the entire inside of the tree. Once you do it, you will always do it. 🎄

I need to watch for an LED one when all the clearance sales start because our current tree has LED lights.

I bought the one with the extra good lights and yeah, not cheap but I figured it was my last tree ever. So far after 4 Christmases so good. I feel your pain Suz, I hate hate hate messing with lights!
