Making a big pot of chili or baking some wonderful dessert, bringing it in for my work family, and then being floated to another unit. Umpteen holidays have been spent this way in the past 25 years. It sure is funny how the ICU can't seem to be fully staffed on any given major holiday and they need "helpers".
(Ok I don't even get floated anymore being the boss BUT I feel a fresh anger each time I read my Facebook memories about where I spent the holiday that year)

Once December 1 hits, we do Advent calendars, reading Christmas books at bedtime, and daily gratitudes that go in the manger under the tree. After we do stockings & gifts, we read aloud all the gratitudes from the manger. I love the daily gratitudes idea. It sure is funny how the ICU can't seem to be fully staffed on any given major holiday and they need "helpers". Bless you for being there. DD was an ER tech. Same thing.

Driving around with coffee or hot cocoa looking at the light displays, listening to Christmas music.
On Christmas Eve I'm going to try crock pot meatballs in honor of my aunt and uncle who used to host Christmas, and they had a little dog named Merry.

One of my favourite things to do is buy the Christmas edition of the Radio Times (TV listings, but also a great magazine). I go through it with a highlighter marking all the programmes I want to see. It’s a rare year when I get to see more than handful, but I enjoy the process. This year I only have streaming options, but as the main channels also do streaming, I can still (not) watch the programmes I highlight! 😄

On Christmas Day, we order Jewish deli platters for lunch, and go out for Chinese food for dinner (always make a reservation! the one year we didn't, we literally had to wait for two hours). We also watch Rent . For Hanukkah, we host an american open house for the kids's friends with latkes and cake and cookies.
