Hi everyone. Bowl games start in 2 days so I thought I'd go ahead and start the thread. LSU plays Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl ~ formerly The Outback Bowl ~ on January 1st. No word yet on whether Heisman winner Jayden Daniels will play. I'm sure people are telling him not to because of injury risk.
Who does your team play?
Geaux Tigers!

HOTTY TODDY!!! Ole Miss Rebels are playing Penn State today in the Peach Bowl. Lots of family pride riding on this as a cousin and his son are both Penn State alum (and one is at the game)!
Had to dig for the thread! Not much interest in the bowl games so far it seems. They've gotten too many of them IMO and they are slowly losing any importance. If your team still has yet to play, good luck to them!

Case in point, Missouri beat Ohio State yesterday 14-3. I'll be cheering for your Rebels today.

Hoping for some good games this weekend. I've been traveling and unable to watch as many as I'd like, but did catch most of the Mayo Bowl at a restaurant. My niece is a Mountaineer so I was happy to see them win!
It will be painful to cheer for either Alabama or Michigan, so not sure which way I want that one to go! Love the atmosphere of the Rose Bowl, so I'll just enjoy the event.

My Oklahoma Sooners lost to Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.
Our new 5 star recruit quarterback threw too many interceptions to count.
I hope it was first game jitters and not a sign of things to come.
BOOMER!

Sitting here watching Penn State. Cheering for the Big Ten. It’s the best bowl game I’ve seen so far. I agree anniebeth24. Too bad either team has to win. DH just looked up how it’s going to work next year with the expansion. The championship game won’t be until Jan. 20th.

Well I will be rooting for my Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. Excited for the game. Happy USC won! And super glad the Buckeyes lost last night. Hoping Ole Miss beats Penn State. For today's other games rooting for Florida and Maryland. Also glad Oklahoma State beat Texas A&M. That was a good game.

Oh and for Monday besides MIchigan, I am rooting for Oregan, Iowa and Wisconsin. Still not sure who I want to root for between Washington and Texas. For now leaning towards Washington.

We are having a big parade and celebration for him next month! All the SBCUSD high school bands will play and march, floats, etc. Going to be a lot of fun.

The committee will have a lot of egg on their face if FSU beats Georgia. I still think they got screwed.

I sure hopes the weather clears up for the Rose Bowl. We went to it in 2001 and it has the best bowl atmosphere of any bowl game I’ve attended. The parade is so fun.
Ole Miss is looking good. Taking advantage of Penn State’s cornerbacks opting out.

As a Georgia fan, I would have liked them to have had their full team or pretty darn close to it. I wanted to see what these 2 teams would have done head to head. Both teams had something to prove to the committee. I think they both got screwed.
I am looking forward to the Rose Bowl with Bama and Michigan. Really hoping that Bama beats Michigan.

My gosh the Georgia FSU game was horrible. I honestly thought FSU was going to walk all over Georgia. It went exactly how I thought it was going to go. We had almost 30 players opt out due to injury/NFL/portal. The team we watched last night wasn’t the 2023 undefeated Seminole team. It was a JV team that had no chance to make it competitive with Georgia. We had a third string, true freshman starting at QB and a decimated OL. I’m surprised he didn’t get killed back there. Our starting receivers were out as was our starting running backs. We did have our kicker and tightened so I guess there is that 🤬😩

Yeah, that’s why it was so ugly. We had kids that had never even sniffed the field lining up against a talented and very experienced Georgia team. It wasn’t even gonna be close.

I think there are a lot of pros and cons to a twelve team playoff system. One big advantage is that we won’t see any players opting out if their team makes the playoffs.

We had almost 30 players opt out due to injury/NFL/portal. College football is broken and it makes me so sad. All this and having 43 bowl games has diluted the meaning/importance of bowl games. I have pretty much lost interest in them. If they are on the television, it is more for background noise than anything. The college football and bowl system we all knew and loved is a relic of the past, never to be seen again. Now it's all about the money. I personally believe there should be 5 bowl games. Top 10 teams. Then from there weed down to play offs.

Next year there will be 12 teams in the playoffs. But will we still have all the other "fluff bowls"? That's too few. Back in the 60's there were perhaps 20. That seemed about right. I researched this recently. In 1960 there were 8 bowl games. By 1969 there were 11. In 1979 there were 15, while in 1989 the number was up to 18. Since 2000 the numbers have grown at a faster pace than ever before, with 34 games in 2009 to the 43 we had this year.

And I remember watching Rose Bowl and a few others as a kid and teen (80s and 90s). Rose Bowl was always one of the big ones. My dad calls them toilet Bowl games LOL

I saw an idea regarding bowl games the other day, and it sounded like a great idea. Move the bowl games to Week Zero and play them at the very beginning of the season and use the new playoff system as the only bowl games played at the end of the season. It would solve the problems of all the opt outs and viewership would be through the roof.

No, it would be done by invitation and not based on rankings at all. Good luck tonight!

What a game! Wisconsin scored and drove the field seemingly at will. We finally went ahead 35-31 with Wisconsin having one more chance. Our defense, who let us down all year, came up big and won the game for us by stopping them! The announcers called it the most exciting bowl game this season. ETA: Oh, and our new QB, Nussmeier, was 31-45 for almost 400 yards and 3 TDs. I'm on the Nuss Bus!
