Good morning.
I'm going to bake the coffee cake cookies that I was going to bake yesterday. Instead, I made macarons and called it a day. I really need to take another macaron class. It's been 5 years since I took the course and I need a refresher. Dinner is likely chicken enchiladas. Last night dh had pork bao and steamed rice.
What's on your menu?
What are you up to today?
ntsf, safe travels tonight. Have a wonderful vacation.
lucyg, is your mom still coming home today? How is she feeling?
Wishing everyone a happy, gentle day.

I'm going to bake the coffee cake cookies that I was going to bake yesterday. Instead, I made macarons and called it a day. The coffee cake cookies were such a hit with my crowd that my mom asked if I was making them for cookie day. I want to see a pic of your macarons. I'm having a slower day today and I took tomorrow off. I'm planning to log in, though, for a 3 pm meeting tomorrow despite being off. But I'll be prepping cookies as Saturday is our baking day. I have a report I'm trying to finish up this afternoon. And then it will be the final one of my end of year Friday reports. I've been doing them every Friday since September so I'm ready for them to be done. I'm trying to get Jeremy to decide on dinner. He's saying lasagna but I'm feeling like I'll make lasagna on Christmas Eve. So I'm hoping he can suggest something else.

Happy Thursday!
My dad is home from the hospital but still feeling a bit under the weather so I'll take him leftovers of the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes that I made last night. Mom is in rehab local to us so I'll take her some lunch today and visit with her.
Dinner tonight will be taco salad since it's easy and I have some hamburger to use up.
Have a great day everyone!

Today I have Creative Crafters through Newcomers. We're doing some kind of painting with pens ~ I don't understand it but it seems like fun. We're all bringing goodies to share so I'm taking pralines. It's the last activity I'm signed up for in 2023 so I'll use the weekend and next week to get ready for DS's arrival on the 23rd. Dinner might be bean soup.

It's a dreary day here today ... might get some rain later, might get some snow ... all I know is that I'm not leaving the house! I need to clean the top of my range ... it's got tiny splatters from cooking on it and I procrastinated last night. No other plans until my mum comes over for dinner ... she comes when they are serving something she doesn't care for at home. She can pick a Hello Fresh meal or we can order takeout ...

leannec , how's your mom doing? Tearisci , how is your mom? Is she making progress? karenlou , you're a giver. I appreciate that you're willing to take one for the team. Hehe. I don't if enjoy is the right word, but enjoy your new washing machine. jeremysgirl , the macarons were a fizzle. I took a class a few years ago and I think need a refresher.
cadoodlebug , have fun today. Did you mean enough pralines for the rest of the tribe? Hmmm...young lady.

the macarons were a fizzle. I took a class a few years ago and I think need a refresher. I did not get that from the OP. I'm sorry that happened. Gah, I hate when I put in a bunch of work and then end up with a final product that isn't good. But no risk, no reward.

She's doing a lot better ... she's still on some heavy painkillers but she is mobile and able to get things done! She is going to PT today ... She is attending three holiday themed events at her residence next week! Moving to that place was the best idea EVER!

Did you mean enough pralines for the rest of the tribe? Hmmm...young lady. I made one batch so everyone will have one while we craft and I have individual little plastic baggies with a cute sticker for them to take one home. I bought round Avery stickers years ago and never thought to download the Avery template. There are literally tons of Christmas/holiday stickers to make! And to wrap up, I'm taking all of it in a basket that was a wedding present to my parents in 1943 so it's 80 years old. Shows wear and tear but we used to use this basket when we would take picnics to the beach in Hawaii. Sweet memories for sure.

scrapmaven - sorry about the macarons -and thank you for starting the thread so reliably! I just got my Christmas gift to me delivered and installed...YEAH ME a new washing machine!!!! yay - I loev getting a new appliance - I don't always love needing to get one though. But I'll be prepping cookies as Saturday is our baking day your baking day sounds so fun! Dinner here is eggs and homefried potatoes - I think I have a couple of sweet potatoes that need to be used so I'll probably dice those up and add them in as well. We had homemade waffles and strawberry sauce last night and cinnamon rolls (from a can) to celebrate St Lucia's day - so breakfast two nights in a row. I'm sewing again today - trying to get the last of the Christmas projects finished up. I got a late start and yeah...Advent being so short has really left me scrambling this year. My dad is home from the hospital but still feeling a bit under the weather so I'll take him leftovers of the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes that I made last night. Mom is in rehab local to us so I'll take her some lunch today and visit with her. hugs - I hope they are both feeling better soon Today I have Creative Crafters through Newcomers. We're doing some kind of painting with pens ~ I don't understand it but it seems like fun. We're all bringing goodies to share so I'm taking pralines. Today I’m wrapping Christmas presents. I’ve been at it for a bit and now taking a break because my back hurts from standing and bending over. I’ll read for a bit and go back at it.
DH is still dealing with the sciatica issue. His leg goes back and forth between being numb and being painful.
Tonight I’m going out for supper with another group of former coworkers. I don’t see these people very often so it will be fun to catch up with everyone.
Still no snow here. It’s looking like it’s going to be a green Christmas.

Jeremy found another dog that needs a home.
I was listening to music right before he came in and Esther's favorite song came on and I was crying. I shut the speaker off and I sat here and cried for a good 15 miuntes. He came in from work and was like why are you crying? I said Esther and well, I found a pic of me and Amelia come up on Facebook memories today.
He says very gently: do you really think you don't want another dog again? I just looked at him sadly and said: no, we can have another dog. He was like: I found one that needs to be rehomed. I was like: *sigh* OK, just find out what you can.
I'm such a sucker for animals. And what's worse is that he caught me right at a time when I was vulnerable. He knew it, so he told me he'd find out more information and let me think about it.

Good news, it was my car battery that needed a jump. Bad news is that I have to buy a new battery! No plans yet for dinner. We ate all the rechauffe so we have to do something! Maybe takeout... DD last final is today so she will be home at some point. Not sure if it will be tonight or tomorrow. Then she is off until 1/19 I think. We did have to have a talk with her last weekend as when she comes home she leaves all of her stuff out, nothing is put away and it is VERY frustrating. We had to have the talk before she gets home for a month straight. She is excited for her new classes next semester, so that is good! I ran out of envelopes for my cards so I had to order more and they should be here today. Then I can mail everything out. SO and I will do the final Christmas shopping this weekend and then I can start to wrap presents and bake cookies!

We might have the pizza we didn't have yesterday for dinner.

Late check in here from me, as I was out to dinner with friends. It has been another gloomy day today. I had planned to meet one friend this morning and another this afternoon, but we ended up combining the two - I met local friend and her daughter after school, then we traveled together to meet up with a mutual friend who we met here and has now moved with her family to near Frankfurt. They are back for a few days, so we met at their hotel for dinner. The cafe menu was simple - pizza, burgers, pasta and salads - but fresh and yum. I had a chicken caesar burger which was so delicious. It’s been so long since I had a good burger that I didn’t have to make myself!
I heard from my cousin today that her mum, my aunt, has been very ill. Aunty B is the wife of my dad’s older brother, who passed right at the start of covid. She and my dad are the only ones left of their generation on that side of our family now. She is 87 and dad will reach that age in January and is also not well, so it feels like an era is coming to an end.

Good Morning!
Sounds like a lot of us are busy hustling and bustling with the holidays.
DH is going out of town on a job a little later today. I already have my plans laid. I am going to finish wrapping gifts and hopefully finish frosting some santa cookies. They were way more involved than I thought!
Dinner tonight is going to be an adult happy meal from McDonalds. They have brought back the nugget toys that they had back in the 90's. One of my sons (the one who is going to be a dad) wants to get a bunch. He loved those when he was little.
I also downloaded a cute quick Christmas read that I am hoping to start tonight.

I picked up a new cookbook at the library the other day. I'll put a picture below. I'm going to roast some chicken with potatoes and leeks in a creamy white wine sauce with capers. It just sounded good to me. So good I might actually have a glass of white wine with it. I don't normally drink when I'm feeling unsteady. I haven't had a drink in almost a month. But it just feels like this meal is made for a glass of wine.

jeremysgirl, I've never owned a dog, so I can only speak from my experience as a cat owner. When my wonderful cat passed away I was heartbroken. It did help me to rescue another kitty. In fact, it helped, a lot. I still miss my sweet kitty, but now I have another sweet kitty to love, and his sidekick. The only question I have is whether or not you can still do your move if you have another dog? I think a doggie could be very healing. sueg, I'm very sorry to hear about your aunt's health. I do know what you mean and it's sad stuff. ((((HUGS)))).

Hey all! I saw this skillet enchiladas recipe a few weeks ago and tried it today. Turned out so yummy with no oven time. I didn't use some of the ingredients and it still turned out fine. This was a two meal recipe for enchiladas and penne pasta. I loved I can make two dinners from some of the same ingredients. Here is the recipe if you are interested. Link Here

Very late check-in for me! Had a late dinner after my choir rehearsal (with a small snack beforehand). DH & DS each did their own thing for dinner while I was out. I still have a backache. jeremysgirl, your roast chicken with leeks and potatoes looks super good! We just bought leeks and some Yukon gold potatoes to make leek soup (probably tomorrow night) but now I'm thinking we need to do another round of leeks next week to try that dinner. I also may look for that cookbook. I love one-pan meals/sheet pan meals! And hugs for you as you ponder taking on a new doggie. sueg, I feel for you and I know what you mean about the end of an era...I have one uncle and aunt remaining on my Dad's side now (my Dad's youngest brother and his wife), and it feels so weird. I'm going to call him this weekend as it will be the first Christmas without my Dad and they were pretty close. We can commiserate (or be miserable) together.

Mom has been sprung! We picked up Mexican on the way home from the hospital. Tuscano soup still needs making.
Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of my husband’s death. We’re having a thing at the cemetery with some of his old friends, followed by lunch.
It’s been a week, for sure.
Over the last few years, we’ve lost my mom’s cousin who was like a sister to her, then her actual sister, then our stepmother (dad died years ago), then our late aunt's longtime boyfriend, then my SIL (although she wasn’t in that older generation), and then finally our stepdad. Mom’s the only one left in that generation.
