What is something you thought you didn't like, but as it turns out, you do like it? I have had it in my head that I didn't like eggnog. My mom has spent her life buying the same (I don't know which) brand of eggnog and I tried it once (probably 30 years ago) and I didn't care for it. Well this week, I happened to be at my little, niche grocer and they had a locally made brand of eggnog with a cinnamon flavor. I thought to myself that this seemed like a very Christmassy thing to have, I bought it. And I drank it. And I loved it. And I'm now dying to go back to the little store and get myself like 15 more cartons of it. I'm kicking myself for missing out on this deliciousness for 30 years. LOL! Anyone else want to admit to something similar?

I spent my entire life HATING onions. All kinds, cooked and uncooked. Turns out I hate the huge chunks of onions my parents used in everything fucking thing they made. It is a texture problem, not a taste problem. I'm still not fond of them raw, but can tolerate if finely minced in salsa. I cook with them all the time, finely minced, and appreciate the flavour profile.
I was yelled at during every dinner and spent hours at the table trying to choke down dinner. I was very lenient about food with my son.

Cauliflower. It's one of the veggies I miss the most. I hated it growing up, because my mom boiled it to soggy death. As an adult I discovered that it's great in a salad or roasted on a grill. Yum.

Not recent, but as a teen I wouldn't touch pickled beets with a ten-foot pole. Then my aunt said "Have you even TRIED them? You're not leaving until you try them." So I did just to shut her up, and I've been eating them since. I almost ate the entire jar that day.

We don’t use them fast enough to justify buying them. So I compromise and use onion powder in recipes, dips, etc. There were lots of various vegetables and things that I had as a kid that I absolutely hated but now I will eat. My kid is a lot more adventurous than I ever was, LOL.

He claims to detest onions... then once we accidentally fed him a caramelized onion burger from Costco (I hadn't remembered what kind they were) and he liked it!!

Most of my life I liked the *idea* of yoga, but I didn’t think I’d actually like it. I love it…
ETA - if this is just about food, I’ve got nothing — because I love ALL food haha

Cornbread. The difference is using white cornmeal instead of yellow. It makes it sweeter. I also think my mother overbaked hers and it was very dry.

There aren't really any foods I don't like except raw onions and raw fish type things, so I don't have much to contribute to this thread. I used to detest green beans because I worked for several summers in a green bean canning facility and saw what quality control looks like but I've been growing fresh green beans in my garden for the past several years, and eating them (with garlic, butter and lemon juice) if that counts... Still won't touch the canned ones though!

Beets! Growing up I hated them. ew ick Then I got my Instant Pot some years ago. Everyone was talking about how great beets were cooked in there so I thought what the heck, let me try it. If nothing else my dh would eat them. So I cooked ONE beet. lol. Took it out, peeled it (well, the skin basically falls off so no peeling needed), sliced it, and ate the entire thing with just salt! hahahaha Dh didn't even get any of that first one. Now I make them all the time, and I like them warm with salt, or room temperature with some feta cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. Turns out that it wasn't beets as a whole that I hated, it was the pickled beets my mother always ate. hahaha

The first one I can think of is guacamole. I thought I didn't like it, likely because of the color I guess. But I figured out that I in fact love it about 15 years ago.
A more recent one is dill pickles. I didn't like them, and had tried them, when I was younger. About a year ago, I got to thinking, I like cucumbers and I like vinegar flavored things, why don't I like pickles? So I decided to try them again. Turns out I love dill pickles. I still do not like bread and butter pickles though.

I’m not sure how we determined that he was fine with the flavor of finely chopped onions, but we did, and we’ve all been happier since then.

Oh, things I didn’t grow up eating like raw fish. Turns out it’s delicious!
Also Mexican/Tex-Mex food. Turns out the stuff I had growing up in the Midwest was not it. It’s my favorite kind of food now.

I can't think of anything that I now love. BUT I do keep trying things I don't care for to see if I have changed my mind, so for it's a no! - asparagus, sweet potatoes, spinach, brown rice to name a few.

Brussels sprouts. Turns out my mom overcooked them so they got stinky and bitter. I had them roasted (almost charred) with feta a few years ago. Now I can't get enough of them

Not recent but I used to detest peas. Growing up I only thought they came in a can, were mushy and khaki green. It wasn't until I got out on my own that I realized peas didn't have to come from a can, be boiled to death and were actually a pretty green and tasty!

I like onions, especially Walla Walla Sweets. No to beets and avocados in any form. I don't like pickles except for sweet dill pickles. I used to drink eggnog with Kahlua or Baileys'. I tolerate spinach and cucumbers in a salad.

Bourbon. I spent my whole life until the age of 59 thinking bourbon was just nasty. (I am a wine drinker. ) Then, last summer I spent a weekend with some friends who had just done a Kentucky bourbon tour and talked me into trying some. I LOVED it. I have a good friend who is a bourbon drinker, and she has helped me try different ones, and now, I love it. I guess I just like expensive bourbon. LOL I don't drink it very often since the good bottles are $$, but I do treat myself to some every once in a while.

Nothing, really. I am not a picky eater. I do loathe a few foods, like sushi and radishes, but that’s it.

I am shocked at how many are expressing my same onion issue. I've always been told it was just me. 👿
I appreciates the validations! (If you've watched Letterkenny you will get why appreciate is plural.😂)

My whole life I thought I hated avocados/guacamole. Wouldn't touch them. Several years ago someone asked me if I had even tried them and I honestly couldn't remember so I did that day and OMG, I was wrong. I have spent the last several years making up for lost time with avocados and guacamole.

Ok I thought of something - as a kid I thought I hated hot sauce - in now I can’t have my eggs without my favorite creamy, tangy hot sauce!

My husband is another one who doesn't care for onions, but he likes them raw but not cooked. However I have found as long as I chop them up small (I use the food processor) he has no idea they are there and eats items with them just fine. However what doesn't make any sense at all is that he does LOVE French Onion soup. About 12 years ago or so I discovered that I do not in fact hate Twix candy bars (I know, weird) but love them. I still hate Butterfingers. That's probably around the same time I discovered guacamole. I'd had it before a few times but most often it didn't have much flavor and the green was off putting. But I had it when a coworker brought in some they had made homemade and loved it. Then I started trying it at our favorite tex mex place. OMG. Now I will never turn down guacamole. And I get so annoyed at the Chipotle by my work as they are almost always out of guac!
