Cauliflower. It's one of the veggies I miss the most. I hated it growing up, because my mom boiled it to soggy death. As an adult I discovered that it's great in a salad or roasted on a grill. Yum. My mother did this too. And I swear I don't think we ever had a fresh vegetable. My ex fiance hated pretty much ALL vegetables when I first met him, which was particularly hard for me because I don’t eat much meat and love my vegetables. It took some time, but I finally got him to try a few things. I think the first was roasted broccoli. He was surprised that he liked it. He had never even tried it before. And then he tried corn on the cob. He had never tasted fresh corn on the cob! We were at the state fair where they sold it right off the grill. He copied how I was fixing mine with butter, a squeeze of lime juice and a light sprinkle of chili pepper. They had several stations set up for people to choose their own condiments after picking up the corn cob. He was shocked that he liked it too. Then I learned that the only type of vegetable his mother served were canned. No wonder he didn’t like vegetables! The only fresh vegetable she ever served was something that she and his dad used to pick from the sides of the road. It was some green of some sort that grew wild and they would take it home and boil the heck out of it. I don’t know what that was but he hated it. It wasn’t spinach. They didn’t have a lot of money and he was forced to eat this green often because it was free. I asked if they ever grew a garden which is an almost free source of vegetables. Nope, just this fresh green harvested from the roadside. He said it was bitter and that they ate it boiled with salt on it. I would fear it might have been sprayed with an insecticide coming from the roadside. Over the 10 plus years that we were together, he learned that he actually liked vegetables too. I have tried a very limited number of canned vegetables myself and hated them all too. About the only things I buy canned are tomatoes, water chestnuts, tuna, and beans. My parents were both really good cooks and we were exposed to a variety of foods growing up. I can’t remember being given any food that I didn’t eat at least a few bites of.

Raw oysters.
The thought of them totally squiged me out. I finally was talked into trying them maybe 5-7years ago and I like ‘em!

The first one I can think of is guacamole. I thought I didn't like it, likely because of the color I guess. But I figured out that I in fact love it about 15 years ago. A more recent one is dill pickles. I didn't like them, and had tried them, when I was younger. About a year ago, I got to thinking, I like cucumbers and I like vinegar flavored things, why don't I like pickles? So I decided to try them again. Turns out I love dill pickles. I still do not like bread and butter pickles though. I hate anything pickled, but there is nothing like a good dill pickle. 🥒❤️

When I was a kid I didn’t like the liver pâté my grannie made every thanksgiving and Christmas for one of our appetizers. I’ve grown to love it now. My mom made a small cracker for my son with it on too and I thought he’d spit it right out like I used to, but he swallowed it! I’m not sure he actually enjoyed it because he only had the one but he was much more polite than I was at his age.

I can't think of anything that I now love. BUT I do keep trying things I don't care for to see if I have changed my mind, so for it's a no! - asparagus, sweet potatoes, spinach, brown rice to name a few. I do that as well. The big one for me is beets. Every few years I’ll ask to try a bite of someone’s beet salad or whatever when we’re out and it’s always a no go. Asparagus, have you tried it roasted with a little olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper? If not: 400 degrees, 12-15 minutes. yum! I never liked cooked spinach but about 10 years ago found a spinach salad dressing recipe and now I don’t eat any lettuce any more unless I’m out.

My husband is another one who doesn't care for onions, but he likes them raw but not cooked. However I have found as long as I chop them up small (I use the food processor) he has no idea they are there and eats items with them just fine. However what doesn't make any sense at all is that he does LOVE French Onion soup. About 12 years ago or so I discovered that I do not in fact hate Twix candy bars (I know, weird) but love them. I still hate Butterfingers. That's probably around the same time I discovered guacamole. I'd had it before a few times but most often it didn't have much flavor and the green was off putting. But I had it when a coworker brought in some they had made homemade and loved it. Then I started trying it at our favorite tex mex place. OMG. Now I will never turn down guacamole. And I get so annoyed at the Chipotle by my work as they are almost always out of guac! Blasphemy! Butterfingers are so good!

I just can't like it!

I spent my entire life HATING onions. All kinds, cooked and uncooked. Turns out I hate the huge chunks of onions my parents used in everything fucking thing they made. It is a texture problem, not a taste problem... I was yelled at during every dinner and spent hours at the table trying to choke down dinner. I was very lenient about food with my son. I was the same. I still have food weirdness because of it and I'm embarrassed about it. I made my kids eat three bites of the veg and taste the meat but I wasn't too concerned about them eating everything.

For me, it was mushrooms. Now I know that I like the flavor but not the texture so I chop them up really fine.

I'm kicking myself for missing out on this deliciousness for 30 years. This part reminds me of a conversation I had with some friends last night. One of the girls booked a table for us for dinner next Tuesday. I commented on how good the menu looked, and I was going to find it very difficult to choose what to order. My friend who booked the restaurant said "I’m kicking myself, I’ve spent the last 25 years avoiding the place because I didn’t like the look of it!"

I normally pride myself on being a very adventurous eater. But I just couldn't get past the eggnog. But I thought it would be a good story in my December daily. 😂🤣 So it was scrapbooking that drove me to it.

Avocados and guacamole. I didn't eat avocado until college! Just thought it looked gross. Now I can't get enough!
Sweet potatoes--my only experience were the canned kind with marshmallows on top at Thanksgiving. Now I love sweet potatoes! Mashed, fried, etc. Almost like them better than regular potatoes.
pickled beets--still don't like regular beets, but don't mind pickled. I wouldn't seek them out, but I don't mind eating them.

I used to detest green beans because I worked for several summers in a green bean canning facility and saw what quality control looks like but I've been growing fresh green beans in my garden for the past several years, and eating them (with garlic, butter and lemon juice) if that counts... Still won't touch the canned ones though! LOL, this is totally me as well. Libbys, Libbys, Libbys on the label, label, label put me through college! I could earn enough in the green bean season to pay for tuition at Oregon State in the early 80's. Canned green beans were are a definite no go. Fresh green beans or fresh frozen fine whole green beans are edible now. Not only did I work for QC (science major), the last summer I worked the cannery I had enough seniority to work sanitation between shifts. Yep, that's when I really learned how gross the plant could get. Don't even get me started on foreign unidentified objects.
For me know I'm on a limited diet for health reasons and there are many foods I like be no longer eat because I feel better that way!

I wish I could like onions but unless they're pureed my stomach gets ANGRY.
I think my answer would have to be asparagus. It still has to be cooked correctly, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it if it is. Also sweet potatoes

Cooked carrots. I despised them as a kid. Now I love them lightly steamed. And Chai tea. It used to seem too spicy to me but now I love it - especially as a latte.

Bleu cheese. I make a summer salad with grilled chicken, sliced strawberries, snap peas, mandarin orange segments, candied pecans with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The bleu cheese crumbles on top make it so yummy!

I’m not a very picky eater. But, I can’t think of anything I like now that I didn’t use to like recently.
Onions - but I fell in love with those in college. Mushrooms - but I fell in line with those about 5 years ago
Still don’t like sweet potatoes or yams…but I try them every couple years.

Cheese cake as I really detest cream cheese. That is some nasty stuff. I have issues with a lot of milk products such as sour cream, butter millk, cottage cheese. Rotting milk is not good. lol
I had tried bites of plain cheese cake and the cream cheese flavor was over powering. About 10 years ago, son convinced me to taste a bite of his Cheese Cake Facorty cheese cake. I think it was Reese's or something similar. It was so good and the cream cheese flavor did not over power. I started tasting others and found most are really, really yummy. I am eyeing a Red Velvet one I saw at Sam's Club. Would make a nice addition to desserts for Christmas.

What is something you thought you didn't like, but as it turns out, you do like it? I have had it in my head that I didn't like eggnog. My mom has spent her life buying the same (I don't know which) brand of eggnog and I tried it I'm kicking myself for missing out on this deliciousness for 30 years. LOL! Anyone else want to admit to something similar? That's how I felt about not liking cheese cake for many years, but then think about how many calories I didn't eat because of it. lol

My mother would drink egg nog and try to get us (her children) to drink it. We would not touch it--ever!! I'm not sure what/why I finally tasted it. With a little grated fresh nutmeg---YUM!
I can't believe I wasted those years of getting delicious egg nog--having said that, the Braums (a local small chain of dairy stores) egg nog is the best! It is the only brand of egg nog that I want to drink.

Anyway, to answer the question, all my life I hated mushrooms. Turns out I really only hate the texture of mushrooms, but I like the flavor of portobellos, crimini, or baby bellas IF they're cut small.
We only ever had canned (well, from a jar technically) asparagus growing up so I thought I hated that too (I mean, who wouldn't - have you ever seen canned asparagus??) It was limp and overcooked and disgusting so I never liked it until I tried it fresh - it'll never be a favorite veggie for me, but at least I don't hate it.

I’ve recently discovered I freaking love pickled onions. Weird but I had them on some tacos and then my town just got Cava, so I had them put them in my bowl and now I’m buying jars at the store.

Same here! I was eating a salad at a restaurant and asked the waiter what the yummy little red things were on top, and it was pickled onion. I hate raw onion, so I was really surprised. They’re really easy to make, too. I season them with a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cayenne.

Eggnog, to me, varies a lot from brand to brand…there is only one store brand I will buy. Lexica - I 100% can relate to your ex. I never liked vegetables on any kind growing up. My mom always heated up canned veggies. Well…I was at a relative’s cookout and she had grown all her own and had grilled fresh corn, sliced fresh red tomatoes, cooked a batch of fresh collard greens and I tried everything she cooked, to be nice. Turned out I loved everything! I realized I DO like vegetables, I had just never had fresh ones before, what a difference!! I love veggies now! I never ate things like mushrooms or cauliflower & I crave them now. I realized, they just have to be properly prepared

The only thing I can’t / won’t eat is mushrooms. Can’t stand the smell of cooked mushrooms nor do I like the texture of uncooked ones. Poor little veggie - it has no chance in my kitchen.

My grandparents were gardeners, and when we lived close to there, meals at their house always had veggies. But, they were cooked cooked cooked. Years ago, I actually have found I love raw asparagus, brussels sprouts, green beans and cauliflower/carrots/broccoli. It wasn't until I learned about kimchi that it occurred to me to try them. Hahahah most people still think I'm crazy, but I'm seeing brussels sprouts shredded in some salads these days, so hopefully it'll become more common~! Eggnog, I actually *thought* I liked as a kid, but it turns out I hate it. It's wayyyy too sweet for me.
