Those are amazing. I'm just proud of myself for putting some oat flour, egg, and applesauce into a bowl and then I put that in a bone shaped mold!

I love your cookies! But tell me -- whats this dipped chocolate? Those look delicious + possibly simple enough for me to make.

I love your cookies! But tell me -- whats this dipped chocolate? Those look delicious + possibly simple enough for me to make. Just use a good chocolate (I prefer Callebaut!), melt it, and go to town. This year we dipped caramels, nuts (cashews, almonds, and peanuts), fortune cookies, thin mint Oreos, potato chips, pretzels, coffee beans, and coconut. I normally also do both a peanut butter center and cookie butter center, but time got away from me this year! (The nuts, potato chips, and coconut are just stirred into the chocolate and then dropped by the spoonful, not actually dipped.)

I am going to see if I can get some good chocolate and try this! Thank you! Yay! I’m not fancy and I don’t properly temper it, but we melt it on half power in the microwave in 1 minute increments, stirring every minute. Pull it out when it’s almost totally melted and then just stir it until it’s completely melted and smooth.

They are so beautiful! I thought about your cookies a few days ago after watching a TikTok where the creator made hand piped Santas.

These are so adorable. I remember you posting about them last year and I meant to order a cookie cutter. They were sold out last year and I forgot to check this year.
I think I will order a cookie cutter/mold and volunteer to host a cookie exchange next Christmas. That will give me plenty of time to try out a few cookie dough recipes to see which one I like the best.
Are you using two different dough recipes or is the darker Santa just baked longer? I wonder what adding a bit of chocolate and maybe some peanut butter powder would do for the skin tone.

It’s all dough from the same batch, baked the same amount of time. We’ve traditionally just added a few drops of red food coloring to the dough, but now we pull some out at that point and then add brown food coloring to the rest. This year we did three different skin tones. The dough we use is almond-flavored, and part of the appeal of the cookies for my family, so I wouldn’t ever change it, but I’m sure you could!

I have the equipment that I purchased for my Copic pens that can be modified and used with food coloring to air brush. If it doesn’t work for skin tone, it should give me beautiful rosy cheeks.

Adorable
Whats’s the icing like? A buttercream type that hardens or more of a royal icing type?

Adorable Whats’s the icing like? A buttercream type that hardens or more of a royal icing type? Similar to a crusting buttercream, but it’s made with shortening instead of butter so it stays a bright white.

They look wonderful! I don’t know which I want most, all of that chocolate or that long island. So can you tell where my mind was? I went back to the picture looking for a drink, thinking how did she know that the drink was a long island specifically? Then I zoomed in on the picture and realized you were talking about the kitchen island that is long...I swear I do not have an issue with alcohol
