Go for a new ring and perhaps consider a diamond replacement that doesn't involve worker exploitation, like Moissanite or even white amethyst. Whatever route I go as far as the setting, I will be buying a lab-created diamond. No mined diamonds for me anymore. I would also do your research on where your lab created diamond comes from. Our jeweler would only buy from one particular cutter in the UK that gets stones from a lab in Ukraine. He told us that most on the market come from places that he would not do business with in good conscience.

My ring has a pearl which has been replaced several times. The last time, I actually asked them to go down several sizes as the couple previous were too large for the setting.
I agree, though. It's over 30 years old and dated in style. I often will just wear a sterling band instead

I still just love my engagement ring- very simple - solitaire diamond in gold.
I have had to have it repaired and don’t wear it everyday as I used to but considering it is our 52nd wedding anniversary in April I consider it hasn’t done too bad. Even now I would get it repaired over buying a new design.

Whatever you decide, most definitely save, cut open and sift through your vacuum bag. I have found several pieces of missing jewelry by doing just that. Most vacuums today are bagless. But by that same token, any time I’m vacuuming and hear something get sucked up that makes a THUNK! when it hits the inside of the canister, I investigate, LOL. It’s usually nuts or bolts or screws that fell out of DH’s pocket, or the occasional LEGO brick or coin.

Exactly my point. Anytime something hard (even if it’s small) is sucked up it will rattle around inside the canister so whenever that happens I always check to see what it was.

busy I don't think you're terrible for wanting a new ring! I haven't read all of the responses so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else, but I do suggest double checking with your DH to make sure he is okay with a completely new ring. I would hate for you to hurt his feelings unknowingly, especially if he picked out your original ring and it has sentimental value to him. Otherwise, I vote a new ring with a new, updated setting!

I have a beautiful set of rings redone from my original settings, but unfortunately, I can only wear stretchy silicone rings now b/c of swollen knuckles from arthritis. OP, your solution is perfect!

DH lost his wedding band one summer when he was at Scout ⛺️ camp. He was sooo upset. My engagement ring was a diamond solitaire with 4 prongs. I liked it originally, but 25 or so years later, I really wanted a 6 prong mounting. So we decided to take my original diamond and have a custom ring made for DH. He was so pleased, and so was I as I then upgraded my original diamond and got a larger one with side stones. If I could post a photo on this site, I would show you both rings. Sigh…..

I'd get something suited to your style now. The sentimental attachment is to your actual ring, not a lookalike.

I’m now thinking I am going to do both 😬 Get a new ring that’s my current style and is what I wear every day. And also repair and get a new stone for my original ring, so I can wear it occasionally. Y’all made me feel like it’s not terrible to want a new ring - so thanks 😊 Yay! I am so happy you are doing both. I have my original ring that is very outdated and small. I love my new set. Even though I am widowed, I still wear it, sometime with the solitare on my right hand and the anniversary band on my left. As a dear friend once told me about her upgraded set, "I earned that!" LOL.
