What is your 2024 word or words of the year?
Whether you do the class or not. If you choose a yearly word or words, what does your word or words.... mean for you?

I don't take the class. I've chosen a word every year since 2008. Mostly to use as a guide and focus, throughout the year.
My words for 2024 are "Doing what's best for me".
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Doing what is best for me".
Doing what makes me happy.
Continuing my self care (emotionally, mentally, physically). Continue on my healing journey. So many old wounds, old baggage, old dysfunction.
Continuing to rebuild my finances and savings, and living within my means.
Continuing to put myself first.
Making choices and decisions, that are best for me and my well being.
Continue to solidify, support and shore up my foundation and my core (which became a little shaky, unstable and wobbly throughout the pandemic). "My foundation" was my word for 2023.
Continuing to make my little home a quiet, content, happy, and calm refuge away from the external world.
Doing what's best for me, and not worrying about or thinking about what other people think of me and how I live my life.

I have a phrase for my "word".
Be Brave and Be Healthy.
Be Brave in making hard choices Be Brave in trying new things Be Brave in sitting in discomfort while old habits are dying and new habits are forming Be Brave in finding a new job ...and more
Be Healthy in body Be Healthy in mind Be Healthy in finances Be Healthy in spirit Be Healthy in friendship Be Healthy in family ...and more

I don't do OLW but my theme for this coming year is balance. I need to get better at balancing things during the day and week. I need to do better and splitting my time between the things I enjoy instead of putting 75% to one thing and having to divide the 25% to others then being bummed I didn't do more for X.

Pause.
Pause before reacting. Pause to reflect and reassess. Pause for rest.
(Also, "paws" as I want to focus on training my teenage pup 😀)

I'm not doing Ali's OLW project. I just couldn't dig in with it last year. Although my word was fresh and I felt like I lived it all year. This year my word is values. I have decided that when I make choices this year I'm going to ask myself if it is keeping with my values. I've been reading a whole lot lately about natural living and the toll modern society is taking on us. And I realized a lot of those things aren't in keeping with my values or what I feel is important. So this year it's time to align myself a bit. pantsonfire I really like the word balance too and the way you've described it. I think that will be a supporting word for my year too.

I was going to pick ME or SELF but then I saw "Space" mentioned and I was, Yes! this is what I need!!
I'm not taking the 2024 class. I did just buy the discounted kit (I think it was 22) and set up the beginning cards (intentions, definition, quote) while watching some of the OLW video posted on YTube of Ali and the instructors talking about their word, and listened to Ali from the Jan 2022 class.

I am not going to participate in Ali's OLW. If it were digital, I might. My OLW for 2024 is HEALTH.
I have 3 autoimmune diseases which mostly create my schedule. I have a personal trainer and am going to physical therapy.
Then, DH went to the doctor the other day. He has diabetes. Luckily, I know about diabetes and have been teaching him. Since, we changed his diet around and he is breathing better and has more energy. The doc is putting him on medication.
So, HEALTH is the OLW for myself and coaching for my Husband.
What is your OLW for 2024?

My word this year is live. I just want to live this year w/o trying to fix myself or something else in my life lol. I have had a lot of really active words the last few years and I just want to approach this year spending some time living. Going on that trip, spending the day watching chick flicks, whatever...even if there is something else I "should" be doing.
I am doing the AE OLW project/class. I did not purchase the kit or album this year-just the class.

I'm not taking the class. I took it once, and never finished it...
Last year my word was less. Less clutter, less stress, less of me. I succeeded in the first two (got rid of a ton of crap, quit my PTA volunteer job which my co-volunteers were making unenjoyable) not so good on the losing weight part...
This year because I have one kid is in college (she lives at home, but will eventually transfer and live elsewhere), one graduating high school, one starting high school, and one who will be on his last year of elementary school, I debated between the words document, record, and capture. I think I will go with record.
Write it all down, take the pictures, make the scrapbook pages... Even when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to find a pen or pick up the camera or sit at my desk.
I might also come up with a secondary word that is more self-improvement related, but I'm not sure what it is yet.

I'm still struggling to pick a word - I had continue in 2023 and it was a great word but nothing is coming to me for this year. I don't do the project just use the word as a focus point

I haven't signed up for the class. But my word is HOME.
I am usually a person who is who hardly ever at home - but I want to see if I can learn to appreciate just being at home without feeling like I am supposed to be doing something else. I also really want to spend the next year focusing on my home + making it what I want it to be. I also plan to explore how I treat my body (since it's also my 'home').

I am having a hard time picking a word. I know I want the sentiment to be along INTENTIONAL, MINDFUL, PURPOSEFUL, but I don’t like the sound of those specific words 🤪. I can’t pinpoint a word I like sound of, that encompasses that spirit.
ETA: might go with PRESENT if I don’t think of something better

I've picked a word for the last 8 or 9 years? Last year my word was open and it fit with a few parts of my life, others not so much.
This year my word is Forward. I want to keep making decisions to move myself forward. In my health/movement journey, healing from surgery, healing from disordered eating, forward in my career. I'm in the process of looking for a new job as my contract is ending in 6 months. I'm going to work on moving forward for me, even if it's little steps.

I haven't found a word for this year. Last year it was breathe and I could really relate to it. I won't do the class. I really like your word Pause fawkes76. I'll think on it more today and hopefully decide on one by tomorrow.

I am not going to participate in Ali's OLW. If it were digital, I might. My OLW for 2024 is HEALTH. Not to change your mind or anything, but the class and materials are digital. There is a physical kit, but for most years, I have not purchased the physical kit and have just printed out the prompts and my responses. My word for 2024 is Center. I am trying to focus on my values, and I'm trying to make sure that negative events don't topple me over. I am taking the class this year after a year of skipping it. I think it was good for me to take a break, and I'm glad to be back this year.

My word is present. I want to be on my phone less and be more present. I’m already failing on day 1 lol. I also want less FOMO, less spending, less comparing, less distractions. I’m thinking deleting IG will be the best way. I want to do a freeze and use what I have.
I’m not taking the class for the first time in 6 years and didn’t buy anything from the release. I’m on the fence about making an album or mini book. I like the results a lot but am feeling like I just need a break from this project.

My word this year is focus. I want to focus on creating a less cluttered home, focus on improving relationships in my family, and focus on learning to love myself. Focus on what’s important instead of the minutiae that clutters my daily life. With ADHD, focus is something I struggle with a lot. I think putting it at the front of my mind might help me.
I’m taking the class. I’ve already watched the four videos Ali has posted today and taken notes on the prompts. I’m going to wait a few days to write everything out so I can make sure I still feel the same about it. I have a bad habit of rushing my writing and don’t want to do that this year. I have a small notebook I’ll be using to reflect in first.

This is my 9th year picking an OWL. This year it is ENOUGH. I am enough, I'm doing enough, my life is enough.

My word is not very inspirational or even interesting -- its "Improvise". It's time to stop accumulating and use what I have, and that's in all areas of my life, especially crafting, but also attire and accessories, household furnishings, meals, organizing, etc. I tend to buy things when what I have is not quite right, but I need to take a 'good enough' approach instead. (Also, I don't do the OLW class, I have a big enough things-to-do list already, but I do pick a fresh word each year to provide direction for some part of my life that needs improvement.)

I think I've settled on DO as my word for the year. As in stop making plans and lists and dreams and start DOING all the things - especially in the health and fitness realm but in general as well.

My OLW is delight. 2023 was a great year for me, and I want 2024 to be a great year for the people I love + continue to appreciate my own life. I really can't get into picking a word, but think you found a great one. Yesterday my son and I were out looking to find a very cute bird, the kingfisher. I've been out trying to find it for a few weeks. We passed a group of about 12-15 people who were all out looking for a different, rare to our state bird called the Tennessee warbler (or something like that). These people were just out having the best time and just enjoying the chase. I told my son that my goal for the year was to be that happy. Sure enough TWO female kingfishers appeared as if on cue and one had a little fish in her beak. They chattered and flew around us for about 15 minutes. I think they sound like happy dolphins. It was a great way to start the year. Pretty sure the scrapbook page will be titled Delight.

Some great words in this thread!
I’ve been choosing a word since 2011, and have done the class a few times but never finished. I don’t plan to do the class this year. My word is THRIVE.
I want to Thrive at work by being engaged, proactive, and providing sound leadership. I want to Thrive at home by getting rid of things we don’t need, clearing out the clutter and everything weighing us down. I want my physical and mental health to Thrive by being more active, eating healthier, and connecting with family and friends. I want to Thrive in my hobby by scrapping more, and scrolling/buying less.

I asked my physical therapist about her NY's goals. She said she usually has them set in place 4-5 weeks before the end of the year. She said she hasn't set anything for this year. I asked her if she could choose one word for herself this year, what would it be. She said "Peace". Oh boy, she will receive gentle promptings from me. Of course, she works me like "a dog", so I feel gentle prompting is "appropriate". We have a great relationship.

I tried the OLW class once and didn’t find it helpful. My word this year is Explore. It found me — I had mentioned on NSBR that I want to visit one town each month that is completely new to me and learn about it. Then I realized that I also want to explore art-related things I’ve never done, like scrapbooking and possibly quilting. So I joined the challenge here for scrapping. I am hoping that giving myself specific tasks for my word will help me stick with it and gain from the experience.

My word is: MOVE, whether it be exercising or doing what it takes to move towards any of my goals. Doesn't have to be large movements. ANY movement forward is progress!
I flopped big time with last year's OLW project (not the first time), so I'm forcing myself to resist paying for yet another OLW class this year! Aside from not wasting more money, it also eliminates the guilt I feel when I don't keep up. I'm going at my own pace and relying on last year's prompts.

I am going with Embrace. It came to me on day one of a 30 day day yoga challenge I started Jan 2. There are a lot of things I feel I need to “embrace” this year.
I have taken Ali’s class twice. The first time is when my word was “self care” in 2018. It really helped me that year and I even finished my mini album. 2019 I signed up again and didn’t finish, so I let go of the idea of taking the class. But it was great for 2018.
