I can’t see myself ever getting rid of my stash, but I do have a lot of completed scrapbooks from my many years of scrapbooking in past years. I just haven’t scrapbooked much since we moved from the East Coast to Texas 7 years ago.
I recently did digital photo albums of a special anniversary trip. As much as I love traditional scrapbooking, I did the trip digitally just to get the memories recorded before the details were forgotten. I just got the photobooks of our trip. I used Mpix and absolutely love the results.
Would I be happier with traditional pages/albums? Yes. But if I never get them done, that preference won’t bring me any satisfaction.
If you feel you’ll get more memories recorded if you switch to digital, go for it. Completed digital pages are far better than never done traditional ones.

I see scrapbooking as a neverending project...I have no plans to consider anything complete until I die. I am chronicling my life and the people in it. But I am also having fun and pouring time into a creative outlet. Sometimes I journal a lot...sometimes just a caption...it depends on the page and my mindset that day.
I am a cardmaker too...I made cards before I got into scrapbooking...but I don't see much difference. A card is small layout...and Layout is big card...it is all paper.
Maybe pull out a few supplies and make something...anything...with no expectations and see how it feels???

I ended up falling into memory planning and that’s what I do now along with cardmaking.
Perhaps it is the format you’re using that holds you back?
If you just want to play with paper try card making and or art journaling or book altering.
But if it’s memory keeping explore all the many formats out there, 12x12, 9x12, 8x8, landscape and project life style formats with divided page protectors ( less area to get perfect at a time)
I think the memory planning appealed to me because I’m using the disc bound pages and if I mess up enough I just throw it out.
I also agree with jeremysgirl that I’d keep my tools but wouldn’t really miss paper or embellishments
Good luck
