So while I was driving back from Mayo this week, I was thinking about the Laura W stamp storage idea. I then looked through some of the image files I've downloaded of stamp sets I've purchased over the years (mostly KP/PP, but also FYC and Ink Road), and trying to figure out how I would categorize things like holiday baking or holiday movie or seasonal/holiday reading stamps. Would I place them under baking or media or TV or books or under the season/holiday? Would I create a seasonal media sub category? This is where my analysis turns into paralysis. Believe it or not, I actually have two sets of holiday shows/movies stamp sets from KP/PP (from different years). There are some icons/phrases that can be used for any type of movie (for example, the Netflix icon or a journaling image to describe the movie), but then there is a movie chalkboard with holly leaves on it and a Christmas themed popcorn bucket. There are definitely stamps I will never use, like ones about drinking alcohol or cursing ones or the cats dressed up for Christmas. I am happy to get rid of those. I just get stuck on the other part of how to keep what I want to keep, as it seems pointless to get rid of the stamps I'll never use if I keep the stamps I will use on their original backing. This is actually an area of crafting that causes me a lot of anxiety...I know what everyone says, do what works for you, etc. but I honestly don't really know what that is and I am nervous to break up all these sets and scramble my brain! So take stars. I have about 10 sets that have stars. Do I pull off all the stars and put them together on one thing? I will still have the sets they belong to, but then they will just be minus the one or two stamps. I am not sure I will think, "Go to the package with all the stars". I just don't know lol.

I need to just figure out what I want to do to make things more usable because that is the goal, after all.

I’m having the same dilemma! You’re supposed to do what works for you, but you won’t know if it works for you until you try it. And if it doesn’t work, you can’t really undo it!

I definitely hear you about the anxiety. I store most of my dies on magnet sheets in ‘drawers’ in a container store paper sorter BUT there are several sets that are so intertwined those I keep in pouches with their original packaging to explain how to use them. I had one set in the drawers and I never remembered the directions thank his I hadn’t thrown them out. So I took those back out and put them in a pouch with the packaging for the directions. The ones that go with stamps are stored with the stamps. I guess that sounds complicated to have dies in 3 places but this is what works for me. This is how I use them.

Take pictures of the existing sets and set the ‘unwanted’ aside in a box somewhere to see if the new way works. That way if it’s really a disaster you could go back. Currently I’m not short on stamp storage so I’m only re making sets if the planner stamps. I already took something back out of the box though 🤣🤣🤣

When you're crafting and you need something, do you think: "oh I need ______" * shape / size * colour * set * designer / brand * theme
Whatever fills in that blank should be strongly considered for your sorting method. For some supplies not all of those will apply, as I can't imagine most anyone would choose to sort their cutting dies by colour.

For some supplies not all of those will apply, as I can't imagine most anyone would choose to sort their cutting dies by colour. Depends. For stamps I’m thinking theme or saying - obviously And for most everything else it’s usually color or shape and I’m pretty picky about color which is why I use my dies more often than premade embellishments Premade embellishments are often either too big/ too small/ wrong direction/ or wrong color. I’m pretty bad at using premade embellishments unless that is what I choose first then match color/pattern/layout to the embellishment ( which is what I did when I was on a design team ) but that seems backwards to me and it takes longer & I usually end up with fewer photos to accommodate the embellishments.

It's just easier for my brain. Also I don't keep a huge stockpile of stuff outside of diecut/coloured critters, so that's a contributing factor.
