My son totaled (ugh, don't ask) my free to me Infiniti during the pandemic, and I needed a new vehicle. I ended up with a Volvo XC40. I can't say how much I love it (and I loved my Infiniti). Heated seats/steering wheel, sunroof, Apple CarPlay, memory seats, power lift gate, and more. I don't think I will ever drive another non-Volvo vehicle. It's not a current year model, but it has been great for me.
I test drove Audis and Subarus (hubs was convinced we'd end up with a Subaru, but it was just too meh and non comfortable) and BMWs.

We’re on our 3rd successive Sportage because we think they are so great. If you loved your 2017 model they have only improved on it. We have the hybrid. Love it.

I have a 2021 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid that I really like--handles great, good mileage, lots of features and decent cargo space. My sister bought a Cadillac XT5 about the same time that she loves. And my son has a 2023 Lexus 350 Hybrid (premium or something like that) that I will say is not only beautiful, but a great drive and ride. If I were to replace mine now (not likely as we tend to keep cars 10+ years), I would look at a plug-in hybrid.

FWIW, after looking at pretty much everything available in that size at the car show yesterday, I added the VW Tiguan and VW Atlas Cross Sport to my own list. But I still think I'm leaning towards a Forester now.

I had a CX-5 on a lease for three years and loved it. I was prepared to get the newer version of the same car when the lease expired. I had a rough year last year and was hospitalized for a few weeks with complications from my cancer treatment. The lease ran out while I was in the hospital and DH decided on the Volvo XC-40 while I was there. I can’t express enough how much I love this car.
If I weren’t driving the Volvo, I would definitely have the Mazda. My son and DIL have the CX-5 and CX-50 and love them both.

Subaru Forrester is okay but costly to maintain (not great as far as safety features - they are very outdated) and any extras will cost a lot. the new RAV 4 looks great. I would like to get that one CRV - I have a 2018 and hopefully the newer ones don't have all the recalls and issues that mine had. 2018 was a really BAD year for CRV's. Things they fixed in 2017 they broke again in 2018 and then fixed again in 2019. No I'm not kidding. What do you mean a Forrester is costly to maintain? And are you sure about safety features being outdated? My son and his wife just got one because they are having an other child and that was one of their main concerns. Safety.

I just bought my second Ford Escape, and I LOVE it. For the first time in my life, I have heated steering wheel, heated seats, remote start. Those things have been so fabulous this winter. I've only had the car for 5 weeks, and I am so spoiled that I hope I never have to drive a car again without those things. It also has a wireless charging pad which is pretty cool. I love my 2017 Escape! I bought it new and it still runs amazing. I use it as my delivery vehicle for weddings and it has been fantastic!

I've just started my 'looking' journey to replace my 2008 Toyota Avalon, which has been an amazing car! I'm retiring next year and have been saving to plan to pay cash for my next vehicle. I was looking at the Toyota Crown, which is basically a replacement for the Avalon, it sits up higher than my sedan does, but I think I might want an SUV. I appreciate all your information!

I have a Subaru Forester that I love so so much. DS bought a Kia Sportage Hybrid last summer and he also loves it. I do think the Subaru is the better car between the 2, but the Sportage Hybrid is a good car. I live in New England and have no idea why it didn’t occur to me to check out a Subaru. 🤣 I have a coworker who bought one last year. I’ll add it to my list, thanks! New Englander here who LOVES her Subaru Outback. I’ve driven Audis and Acuras for the last few years and would choose a Subaru again even if I won the lottery tomorrow. You can get all of those options you’re looking for - and it’s just so reliable.

But I still think I'm leaning towards a Forester now. I just bought the VW iD4 electric and really love the size, feel and the heated steering wheel lol. Also the auto heating/cooling is so nice (well, so far I’ve only used the heating!) I’ve been driving Toyota for almost 15 years and would recommend but they did not have any electric vehicles available for at least 2 years. I test drove quite a few cars and some were easily eliminated - one you could slide the arm rest forward to use it but then it covered the cup holders. Non-negotiable for me (and stupid design imho!) Good luck with the shopping. ETA - also has massaging seats.

I’ve driven hybrids for the past 15 years - I’d like my next car to be all electric - it’s exciting that there are a lot of options now. I feel like Rivians are everywhere in my area all of a sudden. Curious if others are noticing the same thing?

Curious if others are noticing the same thing? Yes, seeing the same here. Teslas have rapidly fallen out of favor with Elon waving his hate flag, so Rivians and Polestars are getting way more poplar.

Curious if others are noticing the same thing? I have noticed a lot more. I don't pay much attention to car brands but did see an electric mustang and my husband got an electric rental car that was a jeep. It was really nice.
