I couldn’t hear this, but that is beyond disgusting. I would have gotten up and walked out.

That man is not a Christian, and nor should he be a pastor. Absolutely disgusting and needs called out and removed from the pulpit.

I agree with Lexica upthread. Had my pastor said that, I would have made a lot of noise getting up and leaving. AND resigning from my position at the church. And looked every person in the eye as I walked out asking how they could support that message. I am not saying my faith is perfect. I was SA by a member at this church and until I threatened the pastor with my DH taking care of the situation and police being called, did he finally call the other member in. ETA: Former pastor. The staff we have now is absolutely wonderful and so 180 of who was in the seat before.

The video stalled for me so maybe I missed it, but why didn’t everyone, especially other women get up and walk out? Staying there and not saying anything suggests people support these views and if I was a SA survivor sitting there this would have devastated me.

I wouldn't have walked out because I wouldn't have been there in the first place. This kind of incident doesn't happen out of character. Living in the Bible Belt, I encountered my share of "Christians" who use their bibles to beat others over the head. There's nothing that gives them quite as much glee as telling someone else that they're sinning. Jim Bakker's Heritage USA was nearby. Treating women as chattel wasn't unusual.

Have these so called ‘Christian’s’ forgotten the Ten Commandments, you know, those ‘laws’ they think should hang in every courthouse? I seem to remember there is something in there about not committing adultery, which would surely suggest that they should not be out there raping anyone.

Disgusting but not surprising. Remember the swimmer at a university in California who raped a girl who was passed out, and the judge gave him a slap on the wrist because he didn't want to ruin a fine young man's life? Sadly, women are just nasty people who can't keep their legs together and who ask for it by how they dress, and boys will be boys. Makes me sick. And we wonder why women don't often come forward when they are sexually assaulted.

Complete nonsense.
The Bible states that humans are given free will, meaning we always have a choice about the actions we take, and bear the consequences of our choices. That includes men.
Many religions are based where the men have all the say and women are simply chattel. Look at the Muslim religion, where women must wear burkas, so as not to tempt men. Men have no responsibility to control their sexual behavior.
I would have walked out of the church forever.

I recently saw a photo of female representatives in the Iranian parliament in the 70s, and they were dressed just like western women would have been at the time. It’s the conservatives who came to power who took away women’s rights and made them cover from head to toe. A similar removal of rights can happen here, and if Trump comes to power again, it almost certainly will happen. It boggles the mind that we have women here whining about Biden this or that when the alternative is the loss of women’s autonomy and a dangerous partnership with Russia. Priorities, people.

These are the people that have made my dh and I stop going to church. If you ever think you might be interested in going back to church look for a good one. I suppose that might depend on where you live, but up where I am (Northern Virginia) you can find many churches in all denominations that would never preach anything like that. Or any crazy conservative nonsense.

There really is no such thing as "the American church." There are SO many different denominations. And even among one denomination there can be conservative and liberal churches. My own church is as far from this preacher's church as we could ever go. I'm sure he would think we are heretics going straight to hell. Oh well, we don't mind.

The only people with the nerve to say such ridiculous things are the white men who see their power slipping through their fingers. I hope this another example of the vestiges of a supremacist society. May it die a quick death so we can get on with things, like being kind and compassionate to all.

I posted this on the misc thread.. The modest MTG speaks about how women should not temp men by their dress.... MTG and her DD at MAL.. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took a break Thursday from propping up former President Donald Trump's reelection bid to offer up an "unpopular opinion" about women's fashion. On her X social media account, the always controversial lawmaker suggested conservative Christian woman need to do a better job of dressing and acting modestly. And she warned, "It’s also good to not tempt your Christian brothers and cause them to stumble." In total, the recently-divorced Georgia Republican who was reportedly involved in multiple affairs with a "tantric sex guru" and the manager of a gym she used in 2012 while married, wrote, "There are many conservative Christian women, who are influencers or leaders, that are selling themselves short and not being good role models by conforming to the world’s sexualization of women. "If you are conservative and a Christian you know you don’t have to express yourself in sexual ways and you know you are attractive by dressing nice and feminine, and you can be beautiful and modest at the same time." She added, "Men will respect you more and think of you much more highly than just a sexual object for gratification. It’s also good to not tempt your Christian brothers and cause them to stumble. As conservative Christian women let us always be an example to girls and young women by displaying actions that our faith believes and not conform to the patterns of this fallen world. Be the light, don’t fall into the darkness." www.rawstory.com/marjorie-taylor-ghreene-adultery/

I am really put off by the awful comments about her daughter on that thread: ~ Marge, did your daughter get a refund from her surgeon for that bad implant job? ~ your daughter looks like a cheap hooker!! ~ Your daughter's boobs are hanging, I hope she didn't get raped. ~ Your Daughter Loves Dressing Like A Teenage Escort and More. I saw a yard sign recently that said Jesus 2024, he’s the only one who can save us.
For Republicans like Mike Johnson, it’s always been about white Christian nationalism, theocracy and controlling women.
Christopher Rufo is the one who started the anti CRT movement based on falsehoods and lies about the LGBTQ community being groomers. He was looking for an issue to rile up the base. Banning birth control might be next. Anything to keep the power in the hands of white men.
