I have spent waaaaay too much time today reading threads about trimmers!! LOL
I do cards & scrapbook. I have tried just about every Fiskars out there and they just don't "do" it for me anymore. I am using the Stampin' Up! trimmer now, and I'm not crazy about it either.
Sooo... what say the Peas??

I too have a Fiskars and it's okay. I've heard the TH precision trimmer isn't as great as it was first touted to be. I will be watching this thread as well for people's opinions.

I really like my Tim Precision trimmer, but there have been some small issues with plastic around the track. I haven't had a lot of issues, but there's a post here about it.
I had my Fiskars for a long time and it worked well. It just stopped cutting straight after 5-6 years? And I spent a lot of time deciding on a new trimmer and went with the Tim Holtz. The only thing I don't like is that the track piece is so large a piece under like an 1.5 inches is hard because it all ends up under the track cover.

I have an old Fiskars portable rotary trimmer that is my go to trimmer. They don't make it any longer but it cuts straight and I've never had issues with it. I use this 90% of the time. Being primarily a card maker, it bugs me that the base is only 4.25" wide and the 5.5" mark is on a weird part of the swing out arm but I deal with it.
I also have the Tim Holtz rotary trimmer. I got it dirt cheap because I had a Ranger gift certificate and used a coupon code. This thing cuts perfectly and while I never would have purchased it at full price, after using it I'd say it is worth the $100. That being said, its big, bulky and much heavier than my Fiskars trimmer. I don't have room to keep it out on my desk so I only bring it out when I'm cutting a lot of paper.
If you can afford it, I highly recommend it.

I love my CM trimmer. It's the first one I've had that cuts straight.

I spent the $99 on the new CM trimmer with the complete blade set at a convention in Oct. 2021. I LOVE it, may favorite trimmer by far! I've used CutterPed for years and have worn out about 6. I do not like trimmers that have a pointy blade. I prefer those with a mat in the cutting track and a rotary blade. The CM trimmer has clear guides in the cutting track that allows you to see exactly where the trimmer will run. It also has replacable mats to ensure clean cuts. It is less bulky that a guillotine style and easy to use. Plus now pinched fingers!

I currently have 3 trimmers: - A lightweight, relatively inexpensive Fiskars guillotine trimmer (only available at Club Scrap as near as I can tell), which cuts straight, but "fuzzes" a bit if I don't remember to pull the blade a little to the left (toward the platform) while cutting
- The Fiskars card making triple-track trimmer, which is very portable and does OK
- The TH Precision track trimmer, which cuts straight, but seems to take up more space on the desk than my guillotine! Also, I am one of the people who noticed weird plastic shavings in the groove where the blade runs Or at least I think I did.

I own 3 of the 4 and I picked the Fiskars. I have the one with the wire guide. It cuts straight and I like that I can line my paper up with the wire. I like the CM trimmer but I have a hard time cutting off slivers plus the printing on the guide tends to wear off. The TM works well but I haven’t really gotten used to it yet. So far so good though.

Fiskars procision trimmer all the way for me - ten years later and still sharp and straight with zero blade replacements as it’s self sharpening - best $200 I ever spent in the craft room. On a pull out drawer, main downside is way too heavy to carry around

I have several Fiskars & a TM Guillotine for card making & smaller albums and a 51” Dahle for large sheets of paper & book making. My favorite is the Fiskars Pro-Cision-never had a problem. It pretty much lives on my desk. The Triple Track is useful for small awkward shapes because you can drop the blade. The TH has never cut a straight line and I rarely use it. The Dahle is a dream but not for small stuff.

My main trimmer is a big Rotatrim. It's a beast but I thankfully have a dedicated spot for it. It's not something I would recommend if you need it to be easily moved/don't have a permanent home for it. Otherwise though it's pretty great. Not perfect, but good enough that I am quite happy with it. It doesn't have a high capacity and it can be finicky to get the paper lined up correctly to the top edge (I am not sure if it's slightly crooked or I just don't always line it up correctly even after using it for years), but it always gives the smoothest cuts and can go very very fine. I can work with the parts that aren't 100% for always getting perfectly smooth cuts and never having to change a blade.
I do have a small guillotine Fiskars that is nice for cuts on smaller pieces but it's not as well made and size is an obvious limitation. the clear plastic coating on the bed of it bubbled up a bit long ago, doesn't seem to get in the way but to me is a sign of poor build quality.

I love my TH trimmer. I haven’t had issues with plastic in the track. I do get paper build up that I need to clean out. It cuts straight and it doesn’t take up any more real estate than my guillotine.

I'm a Fiskar's fan, so no help there. But what are you looking for in a trimmer? Portability? Longevity? Rotary, guillotine, or "pointy" blade? Is accuracy your goal or is close enough good enough? What is it about your current cutter that you dislike?

It cuts straight and it doesn’t take up any more real estate than my guillotine. And to this point, I thought I had plastic in the track, then I thought it was paper (particularly sticky paper from cutting after adhering), then someone else thought they detected flaking plastic, and I at this point don't have a good, clear idea of what is going on with mine.

I have some Fiskars, with the wire and triple tract. They work ok. When they get wonky, I cut up some aluminum foil. Seems to help. I also have a CM. The blue one that costs about $50. I like it a lot. I guess I just feel more comfortable using my orange fiskars. The CM cuts straight.

I've been using the same Fiskars Surecut Deluxe for over 10 years with no problems. Every once in a while I start looking into getting a new trimmer when I hear about a new one but I don't really have a reason to. Mine works fine. The only thing it doesn't do is cut slivers of paper but I can do that with my old Making Memories trimmer.

I’ve been using my Fiskars for maybe 8 years now and I can’t complain. I don’t think they make it anymore but it’s a rotary cutter with a swing out arm. I have replaced the blade a few times and the track once and although we argue, I can’t quit the thing. There was a whole debacle a few years ago where I was so frustrated because no matter what I did, it wouldn’t cut straight. I honestly thought I was crazy and was about to get a new trimmer. Then I realized the paper pad I was cutting was cut totally crooked. Since then, I haven’t had an issue and based on the stories I’ve read here about issues with trimmers, I’m going to hold on to it as long as I can. I can’t cut slivers of paper but I usually use my little Tonic guillotine for that anyway so as long as I remember it’s limits (and stop trying to cut crooked paper) it works for me.

I ended up ordering the CM one. I hope I'm not sorry!! LOL I did get a chance to look over the TH one on Saturday so if I don't like the CM one, I might try it out. To be honest, I've wanted the CM one since it came out so I'm reeeeeeally hopeful here!!

It has 4 uses then you need a new one.

Can someone post a link?

Here's the link to the CM trimmer. You can order direct from the company and don't have to go through a consultant.

I love my Tonic trimmers. I have both a small, portable one, and the big office style one. Both are guillotine. Neither has ever needed to be sharpened since I first bought them brand new. I especially love the big one.

So, the CM trimmer is a compact rotary cutter with additional specialty blades? How heavy is it? How easy is it to change blades? Does the scoring blade do better than Tim’s? Any card makers out there with one and if so are there any other blades you particularly like/find useful?

The cutter isn't very heavy....IMO. The blades are very easy to change. You just lift the lid of the blade holder, pull out the blade, put the new one in, and shut the lid. The blades and extra mats store underneath the trimmer. The scoring blade does a good job. You have to be careful or you could cut your paper if you push too hard. I can't compare it to Tim's since I've never used that one.

As it turns out, CM's site is one of those that doesn't like Safari on MacOS. I found the trimmer this morning on my iPad and can't find it again now on my laptop :-(
It's tempting to give it a try.

I prefer, and only use guillotine trimmers. Tonic brand, I have 12", 8.5" and a 6". I also have a mini Stampin' Up guillotine that's about 6", not available anymore though.

Looking it the measurements, the 5.5 mark might be hard to find and you need the arm open for it. For card making I think its best if both 4.25 and 5.5 measurements are on the base without messing with the arm. But this is only my opinion and just wanted to bring your attention to it.
